Thank you!
Hey appreciate the like. I’m driving into simple animation for a project of mine. I’ll definitely look into Adobe Fresco more. Do you draw?
Chris, are you using the Sketchboard pro iPad stand??
@@Sehkem I do. I make my living as an illustrator.
@@Xanderall I am
why am i watching this i can't even draw 😭
Haha I dunno, but thanks!
You’re not the only one…
Learning is never late.
Cheap therapy 😂
Not only is this extremely helpful but also your videos get progressively funnier, can’t watch them in public anymore or I’ll snort/chuckle so loud people turn heads 😅
Haha thank you so much!
Yeah, we are in same humor hemisphere! Fresco ROCKS! You’ve taught me so much!
Its OK to laugh in public!!
U sound so fun lol!
XD love it when my barista also snort/chuckles
I started using Fresco off and on about a year ago. It has perhaps the best watercolor brushes. As I am very familiar with Photoshop, I soon realized that Fresco was Photoshops wickedly cool cousin. I wanted to animate a flock of birds flying from a tree and after watching your videos, I did it! It was incredible easy. As a teacher at a major art academy I can recognize good instructors. You are one of the best I’ve seen.
Fresco is REALLY good. Really underrated and not well known.
Thank you so much!
Procreate launched Procreate Dreams for animation, it takes a bit to get used to but I think it’s pretty fun once you get used to it. It’s constantly getting updates for quality of life since it’s fairly new.
Excellent content, keep it up!
Yeah Procreate Dreams is great, but it’s full on animation software, and for the stuff I do, which is more about adding motion to an illustration rather than a sequential “story” fresco is easier and faster for me.
Also thank you!
Word!
I wish I knew about Fresco a while back when I was desperately trying to figure out how to make GIFS.
Seems like the PERFECT app for it!👍🏽
As for Dreams, lot of people are sleeping on how EASY it is to modify the “timing” of frames AS THE VIDEO IS PLAYING!! 🫢
I’ve NEVER experienced anything like it before 🤷🏾
@@chris-piascikur so nice^^!
Hope that its free, if not, then its another subscription i want to avoid@@chris-piascik
I had no idea Fresco was this cool and useful! I just plopped it on my iPad and shall give it a spin! Thanks!
Hope you enjoy it!
Fellow Illustrator of 20+ yrs here (children’s books, puzzles etc) - love your vids, thanks to your love of Fresco I have been using this of late over Procreate too. I work mostly in Photoshop and I love the seamless cloud integration between the two. Never tried animation so I’m just mastering the drawing side of it for now but without your vids I would’ve honestly sidelined Fresco as like you I wasn’t impressed at first but love it now! So just wanted to say how much I enjoy your vids and send best wishes from across the pond! 😊
Thank you so much!! 😀😀
I don't use Procreate, I use Reproduce.

Good talk! Always love hearing about all that Fresco has to offer!
Thanks Selly!
@@chris-piascik Thank, YOU!
I attempted animation 2 years ago in Procreate but it seemed so cumbersome that I abandoned it. Thank you so much for this workflow video, it’s exactly what I was looking for!
You're very welcome!
Watching you do this is one of the coolest things I think I’ve ever seen. Never really been into the animation part of illustrations, but this makes me want to give it a shot.
Oh thanks so much!
Chris, you are THE BEST teacher.
Thanks so much!!
That part with duplicating stars at the end + the dog got me! Thanks man!
Nice! Also he’s the best.
You have sparked my creativity to start animating again after a long break because I was doing it on hard mode. Thank you sir
Happy to help!
🤯 You sir have inspired me to tinker around with animation for the first time in my life. I've always been intrigued and just assumed it to be too difficult but you've shown how simple it can be with Fresco!
I’m really enjoying your fresco animation videos. I’ve been using fresco for about a month consecutively and your videos helped a ton! Procreate came off a bit too intimidating but Fresco gets you up and running in now time. Thank you.
Glad to hear my videos have been helpful!
I've said it before, but your videos are great. Unlike any other creator out there. I have no doubt that you'll grow a huge fanbase because you're so committed to frequently posting quality videos!
Thank you! I really appreciate that!
Picking up my iPad Pro / pencil pro tomorrow, will be installing asap. Thanks!
In Procreate, you can drag to layers together to create a Layer Group, and then with Animation Assist on, each layer group is treated as its own frame.
Yeah, I believe I mention that. I was saying that you’d have to figure out how many times you’d need that sequence to repeat to change the speed of the new item.
Took me ages to figure out the benefits of layer groups. I use them to liquify multiple layers together. I used to export the whole image and re import it when I wanted to liquify multiple layers, but then I couldn't go back and have my seperate layers again unless I went back to the original.
Chris, I just love, LOVE how your eclectic brain comes up with these funny characters I look forward to them every time, so thank you for the time you spend making these videos/tutorials and share it with us. Appreciate you and all you do!!
Thank you so much!
absolutely amazing, thank you dude!
You’re welcome!
You're a life saver! I've been shopping around for (budget friendly) programs that have better animation features than procreate. The animation work flow in Fresco is significantly less tedious than procreate. Thank you so much!
I also reccommend ToonSquid it's amazing!
Glad I could help!
Thank you for this little showcase! I have been on the lookout for a new animation programme for a while now (been using procreate too).
Even though I gotta say that procreate dreams is actually pretty good I think.
But I absolutely will try Fresco!
But for the last half of the video I hardly got what you said, because I was so distracted by your dog. What a cutie :D
This was so helpful man! Using it to storyboard and learn the tools.
Glad to hear it!
Ha! Superb, man. So glad I was able to help you get going, but I didn't need to do much! I love the monster/frog animation. Your technique of having your moving mouth superimposed on my face reminded me of those hilarious videos Conan O'Brien used to do in the early years of his Late Nite show. Also, your dog was the star of this video! More, please.
Kyle, can you help me find the right brushes so i can web myself if procreate too. Mainly the spray paints.
Terrific, Chris! You are unquestionably the most captivating and entertaining Fresco teacher in the cosmos. Keep it rockin', Sir!
Wow, thanks so much!
Tried the procreate dreams??
I'm just like you - tried when It first came out-- was a bit clunky and I had a Procreate workflow- etc etc..(tho I had really thought the oil/watercolors were better but I don't use them enough to change) A friend had a new Ipad last week and I knew Fresco was free so downloaded it for her and in "showing her how to use it" realized WOW! they have made some real improvements-- and now I'm here with you to get the ground truth lol! thanks for the videos! super helpful
Happy to help!
Yes, this was a good talk. I really need to start using Fresco more.
Haha thank you!
Thank you for showing us this. I wanted to practice digital art 🖼️
Happy to help!
You’re doing a great job Chris!!! So inspirational and the best Fresco teacher after Webster ❤️ High-five from Sri Lanka 🇱🇰
Thank you!
Love youre work and Skillshare courses, you are a really down to earth honest guy
Thank you so much!
First time i see you and im subbed after this video. Awesome stuff man. Keep it up!
Thank you!
Super awesome video, i think im sold for trying out fresco👍🏾
Thank you!
New subscriber here. Thank you so much. I will go and watch your skillshare now. This is exactly the type of thing that annoyed me so much in procreate and stopped me from animating. I wanted to use ipad no matter what, it is just so much more comfortable than the windows, especially when you have the 12 pro version with tons of space and if you have a baby that doesnt allow you to sit long at the computer. Im so happy and excited.
OMG!!! I went through the same until I got into a Graphic Design program (for the second time) abroad and start hearing about Adobe Fresco again, I had my doubts and then YT suggested me your video, so I'll be trying it again for sure!
Hah glad YT shared my video with you!
Wow I didn’t even know this was a thing
Great video thanks for sharing, I’m gonna have to give it a shot.
of course!
The best thing was the doggo helping u out with the animation and featuring in video.
Agreed!
this is so cool, i'm starting in this world of design!
Holy shit, I've been a subscriber when you had less than 10k and now you're at 40k? Damn, congrats Chris!
Thanks for being an OG!
Saw your procreate vs fresco video and left a comment that I downloaded fresco before the video was even over. I legit have not used procreate since and I’m probably never going back. I’m having waaaaay to much fun with fresco. Thanks to your videos and using fresco I’ve been able to keep my art block at bay. Thanks man! Your videos help me so much! 👍🏾
Oh thanks for letting me know!
@@chris-piascik also, I’ve been watching your videos A LOT. Just want you to know you inspire me fo real! Thank you for the content you put out. 👍🏾

Glad it was helpful!
Hey just stumbled upon the channel and I love this! ❤
Thanks!
WOW! I had no idea, thanks!
No problem!
Awesome. This video really makes me want to try and animate something, I’ll have to download fresco !
Heck yeah!
Not only informative but crazy creative as well? Thank you
Thank you!
I've definitely made the switch from procreate to fresco, just wish the symmetry drawing would finally arrive
Nice. From what I hear it’s right around the corner. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was in the next round of updates.
Me too! Every time I open the app I check to see if it has arrived!
@@chris-piascikhahaha it’s said that for two years. It’s a carrot on a stick
Well, I understand why you’d say that, but Kyle Webster said he was using it on his test version and it was nearly ready.
i had no idea this was that easy...im gonna jump on this asap!!
Glad this was helpful! Have fun!
Woww this changes the game completely, and makes animation more fun by being easier. The stars part blew my mind, doing that on procreate would take so much time
Glad this was helpful!
I've been debating the move from Procreate to Fresco for a long time because, well, vectors. And I used to use Adobe Illustrator ALL the time. I think youve convinced me to give Fresco another shot, especially with the animations. Just need to find the right brush for my inking
Good luck on the brush hunt!
I’ve enjoyed both but I’m still into procreate. I appreciate both apps equally. Great content Chris!
Thanks! They are both great apps for sure.
What do you think about Procreate Dreams, compared with Adobe Fresco. It's the same case? Thanks.
Seems hard to imagine that a professional artist doesn't know about Dreams right now, and seems weird to ignore mentioning it in a video while shilling for a product that costs way more.
Dreams is still lacking some basic features like the Lasso tool, so it'll take some time for it to be on a Pro level, even though some people are making great stuff with Dreams
Dreams has surprisinglu steep learning curve. But I have been defaulting to it for certain animations lately.
I will literally bounce between 3 or 4 animation apos depending on my idea.
That said i would still recommend fresco for beginners.
@@alpha8herein Dreams you def need to think and plan around the limitation. Not that much better than using regular Procreate to animate
I do know about Dreams. I've even done a video about it. For the stuff I do Fresco is easier and more efficient. Procreate dreams is a full on animation application, whereas fresco is a drawing app that allows you bring motion to an otherwise static image. If I were doing things that were more story based it required a universal timeline with video, procreate dreams would be the one to use.
In regard to me "shilling," How so? I don't benefit from anyone getting Fresco. I'm just sharing info that a lot of people don't know about and I found super helpful myself. Also, Fresco is free unless you want to import brushes or need more cloud storage-and if you do it's 9.99 per year. Dreams is $25ish? And you really need Procreate as well since the drawing experience in Dreams is limited, and that's $15ish now I think? So if you got the paid version of Fresco it would take 4 years to be equal out in price and then on that fifth year Fresco would finally cost WAY MORE at less than $1/month.
wow, fresco is really neat. I didn't realise it was so useful. I haven't used it since it was released and it was rough at the time.
Great guide, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
this helpedddddd alot. i need to practice and draw more to see frames like you
Glad to hear!
Purchased Fresco because of your videos and it's worth it. thank you! I'm from the Philippines btw :)
Cool! Thanks!
I just recently found your CZcams channel (and also found you on Skillshare) and I have been feverishly binge watching SO much! Your teaching style is great and very engaging. And you have finally made me want to try lettering... and after this video, maybe even animation? WTH is going on with me? 😂Anyway... thanks for sharing your talent!
Oh thank you! That’s so nice to hear!
I had no idea. I thought this app was garbage, i tried it a long time ago.. These are super cool. Makes animation look fun.
Ah yeah, it’s definitely come a long way since launch. The motion tools are so much fun.
Very informative! Thanks for this. You just earned a sub 😊 and I’ll be using fresco now. 😊
Thanks so much!
I think it is definitely time for me to try out Fresco. I love Procreate, but I definitely believe in using all of the tools I can! This really helps because I ran into the same problem with Procreate earlier on with multiple animations and also my ADD brain will not think about it until I’m in the process flow.
Thanks for sharing!
That’s great, I literally just bought procreate couple of days ago with the new iPad.. now I stumbled upon this :)
Fresco is my go-to program, for sure. So many amazing features
👍
Have you tried Procreate Dream for animation? I'm trying to work out whether Fresco is better/easier... having used neither of them so far.
Likewise, would love to hear Chris’s advice!
I have used it a bit, it’s great, but for the stuff I do Fresco is easier and more efficient. Procreate dreams is a full on animation application, whereas fresco is a drawing app that allows you bring motion to an otherwise static image. If I were doing things that were more story based it required a universal timeline with video, procreate dreams would be the one to use.
Thanks for the great advice! 👍 @@chris-piascik
@@chris-piascikHave you heard of Toonsquid? Dreams has issues where it crashes a ton, etc.
This is really cool!!!!! I had the same issue of trying to animate multiple pieces simultaneously on procreate, and i thought the issue would be solved when procreate dreams came out. But that app has a lot of missing features rn so it's not super usable.
Now I want try out Fresco…I’m downloading it now..I didn’t expect this video to be this hilarious 😂
lol glad you liked it!
Excellent!, thanks!
You are welcome!
Sick sick sick! Man, this is inspiring to watch.
Thanks!
Learning 👏 through 👏 GIFS 💯 same way I'm learning too and IT'S SO FUN because it's less overwhelming
love your content!
I appreciate that!
I love fresco. Waiting for the symmetry tool, and the ability to import vector brushes
I know right!!

Love your illustation style, dude!
Hey, thanks!
Wow… I didn’t realise Fresco could do this…. I’m definitely onboard Now! Thanks so much for sharing 🙌🏻
Happy to help!
Good Talk! I'm seriously gonna try this out. My friend has been screaming at me to animate my weird illustrations for years and I been too scared to do it!
You can do it!
I'm a trash graphic artist and I'm binge watching your videos. As a software dev I respect the craft of digital artists :)
Thanks! I appreciate it
Very very cool, I like procreate for drawing but I found it tricky and tedious to animate on. Thanks for this! Awesome
thank you!
Hey. thats really cool, thanks for this video. I'm new to fresco so i have a question.
when you give the happy and the unhappy clouds the circular movement, i asked myself if you could link the rainbow to the cloudes.
So that the left part has some other movement then the right side. Or is that to advanced?
Kind regards.
Thanks! Unfortunately you can’t really link things like that in Fresco.
Wow, it's cool to see your subs grow! Good on ya, bruh 😁👍
Thank you!
@@chris-piascik Your success is well-deserved because your work is so damned impressive. I said in the early days of your channel that you would blow up big, and I meant it. I think I also said that if Adobe weren't talking to you directly, they should. Hell, if my platform were ready at the time, I'd certainly have been angling to get you on board. _(I think I'd said that, too)_ Anyway, you are still the absolute best instructor on CZcams. Keep it up, fella!
_... going back into lurk mode... where I descend into the depths of unforgiving code......._
That is so good!!
I was looking for a nice app for 2D animations because procreate can be indeed a bit hectic in that matter
Interesting. Might have to try fresco out.
You should! 😎
Dope! Didn’t know and your content is great! Not gonna switch cuz that’s not my style of animation but people should definitely check it out! 👍🏽
Thanks!
Just found your channel. I used to do 2d animation in premiere pro and photoshop which was terrible but I learned a lot. Now i'm studying 3d animation
Oh cool!
this is so cool man!!
Thank you!
Amazing , fantastic !
Thanks a lot!
Nice I’ve been looking for a good app to animate! Definitely gonna try fresco
Have fun!
O M G # of times I said "holy crap!" 327 and counting! This blew my mind. I was going to use Procreate Dreams for animation, but now I don't even want to try it. Glad I became a member!
Also, the dog. ❤❤❤
Hah awesome! Glad you found it helpful!
To be fair I think they’re both really powerful, both have cool features like live animating in dreams is sick
Ok, so this just blew my mind. Well first, about a month ago, Adobe Fresco blew my mind. I mean, I thought that Fresco was dead! Then, while going to update another app, I saw Fresco in my uninstalled Adobe Apps. Embarrassingly, as an avid Adobe user , I just did not get Procreate. My students who I think were born with iPads in their hands get it. I was struggling for years. Fresco is so much more intuitive for me. And, now that I see it can animate, that's amazing! I can't wait to watch your other videos.
Oh thanks so much! Glad this was useful!
Welp, I'm sold. I stopped animating because it felt weird and annoying in Procreate. And I stopped using Fresco because it felt weird and annoying to use. Guess I gotta try it again.
I think everything sorta feels weird and annoying at first.
I love that look you give us at 1:20 - "Yes, I did just use that big word. Impressed, eh?" ;) Thanks for the fun videos, Chris!
lol, 🤓
GREAT Talk!
Thank you!
And now with Procreate Dreams you have a whole other beast of a learning curve to deal with.
Thanks Chris
My pleasure!
I knew Fresco had added animation but like assumed it was like ProCreate, which if I want to go back and change something becomes a complicated mess in layers. Thank you for showing how it differs. I’m going to try Fresco again. Procreate has slowed down updates ever since their new animation app. Fresco also has great painting experience in addition to having a choice of using vector layers.
Ah yeah, that’s what I thought for a while too. It’s part of why I’ve made videos about it. These features have been so helpful for me and not a lot of people seem to know they exist.
ot How do you take away from a selection? I know it's easy to add - maybe there's a keyboard shortcut or shift like Photoshop? Thanks!
You can tap the modifer button to take away from selections!
Thanks, this is really interesting! I just started using Adobe art programs again last year. I drew in Fresco a little and assumed it was for painting. I wish you could save offline, though. Interesting info about the brushes as well.
thank you!
I had no idea fresco could do this. Awesome sauce.
😎😎😎
I love your humor! And your art too 😉
I appreciate that!
I watched Kyle’s Domestika course on Fresco on was sold the second I came across the vector brushes. Still haven’t tried the motion tools but I feel the same as I did watching this as I did Kyle’s course and really want to give it a go now 😊. Can I ask did you use vector brushes for this animation or raster ones? I’m wondering how you are colouring the shapes like the leg where the outside line doesn’t meet. I’m guessing it’s not a fill but you are just colouring underneath as a new element? Do you also have to do that on every layer as well? Love the vids and all the advice.
I generally don’t use Vector brushes for motion because there really isn’t a benefit to vector since motion can only be on screen so resolution isn’t an issues. There’s more control with pixel brushes, and the files can be a little less heavy. In regards to coloring, if the shape isn’t closed I likely I just color that manually.
Also thank you!
@@chris-piascikno thank you 😁
