I remember in Animal Crossing when the villagers celebrated my birthday for the first time, I was genuinely shocked and was crying a bit because someone decided to add that into the game. It’s just the fact that someone not only decided to wish the player a happy birthday but also implemented the feature.
The old Animal Crossing games are great games for when you feel lonely tbh
It makes sense for Animal Crossing because you are known and can become friends with the villagers, and it is about building relationship with your village, but in Pokemon, the only people you really build a relationship with is your pokemon, rivals, friends, some professors, and random NPCs sometimes. It is so great that games sometimes care more than others, and that's why we love games so much, They give us the attention we need that no-one else does.

I was having a pretty rough time around my birthday last year, everyone in the household myself included just too busy and tense to be thinking about such things. I was just playing ORAS on my 3DS a little before midnight (one of my few quiet moments), expecting nothing special, and then I walked into the Pokecenter to heal my party... It was such a heartwarming feeling when the lights came on and the confetti came down and the music played. Almost brought me to tears, great job Gamefreak!

The first time I played Pokemon on my birthday was last year on sun and moon. I was having a very bad day, and was very lonely. When I walked in, I thought team skull took over another center but when the confetti went off and the excited birthday wish, I actually did tear up. I've been alone most of my life, grew up in foster care so no surprise parties in my life. This was such a nice sentiment; like someone actually cares. I know it was just a game but it still... For a moment... Made me smile on a very lonely day.

Man... Pokemon and Fire Emblem Awakening were my two favorite birthday celebration. Mainly because pokemon felt really cool and sweet and Fire Emblem Awakening is really fun because since your in a war fighting, the game seems to shift out of that tone just for a bit to celebrate your birthday and remember you

I remember the day when I first saw about the birthday, I was completely lonely, basiclly everyone ignored me that day, like, I wasn't there, then I just got home, completly sad, and the I decided to play Pokémon Ultra Moonm because I was bored with Kirby, and I decided to finally destroy the extra part of team rocket, but first I went to the Pokémon center. It was all black, I couldn't see at all, I thought I found one creepy easter egg, and them, SHA-BAM! The game it self told me happy birthday, I almost cried there, I was so sad that I even forgot about my birthday, the game really made me happy! :D

There's actually another small detail in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum! The snow weather in the overworld also takes on the diamond dust effect. It also appears on a few other days (I think like the series creator's birthday too) but it does specifically acknowledge player birthdays that way!
