""I love movies." - Joel Haver" - Scott Cramer. Going to the theater is one of my favorite things to do. As the wise Nicole Kidman once said, heartbreak feels good in a place like this. Let's talk about it.

The fact that you TOLD me you rented out a movie theater and I still thought it was a sick greenscreen at first lol
Same like why does it not look real 😭
@@lacimason4283because it’s a really nice theater. Probably has a buddy that works at the theaters. 😂
@@YoMama9021Some places let you book a theater to yourself! I think it's like $45 a person at AMC.
Yeah but I have never seen a movie theatre like that before… haha
Yall need glasses lol. Or maybe cgi has ruined you. I could tell he was in a real theater.
"Find out why that guy rented out the whole theatre room yet?"
"Yeah, he just sorta sat, and talked to himself for about an hour, eating popcorn; while his wife was watching stuff on her phone."
"Weird..."
IS THE MOST LIKES IVE GOTTEN ON COMMENTS LOL LOVE IT
Gentlemen, begin siphoning the likes from this comment.
@theonlyron What are you a vampire?
Having ADHD, I love that the movie theatre forces me to turn off my phone and focus on the communal experience of storytelling. I grew up going to the movie theaters and I completely agree with the magic of it. THANK YOU! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 and god bless Greg Marcus! (From Wisconsin)
SO real about getting off my phone and focusing. The movie theater is one of the last few places I can actually focus on something for a few hours.
Yes
Sameee, trying to watch movies at home doesn’t keep the same focus and it sucks 😩😩
Same from someone having ADHD as well. It helps me focus, it’s one of the places where I can go to and have fun watching for however long the movie is. As much as staying home and watching one is fine and all but I do a lot better going to the theater and watching it there
I’m convinced every Scott Cramer video is the result of him going down a rabbit hole after having a shower thought and I love it
the people complaining about the price of snacks have clearly never experienced the joy of sneaking 4 big happy meals (with drinks) in your Nanas purse
I always went to walgreens and bought a 1$ bag of popcorn to sneak in because we were poor lol
Chipotle burritos!
i swear people dont realize it’s not against the law to not buy snacks. like youre allowed to not buy anything 😭 you dont even need to sneak in snacks if you dont want to. like you dont have to eat when watching a movie at all. really weird lmao
The one near me won't even allow you to have a bag or purse. It's stupid.
I remember, my mom was really stuck up about that for a while because "it's wrong", but she ended up breaking one time when she physically couldn't afford to buy any snacks. We hopped over to Dollar General and as me and my brother were looking around for candy and discussing how we could hide it, she was visibly stressed the entire time. It was like seeing someone smoking weed for the first time while their parents were asleep in the next room.
Of course, nothing bad happened, we enjoyed the movie with our snuck in snacks like nothing had happened.
The problem with theatres isn't the venue, the cost, or even the inability to pause for a pee break...it's dealing with the obnoxious people around you who either won't shut up or won't leave their phones in their bags and pockets for the duration of the film.
I moved to the Netherlands and my mind was blown when I was watching a movie and there was literally a half way point 5 minute break for snacks and bathroom etc I was like
Why doesn't america do this it's actually revolutionary
Yep. People just don't seem to have any sense of movie-going etiquette anymore.
You gotta start going at unusual times, that’s when there’s less people at the theater. You might even get the theater to yourself. At least for me and where I live I’ve been able to do that. When you’re able to go earlier, it’s usually older folk who are there.
Yes, they charge a premium price for a subpar, distracting experience.
This is why I try to catch late night showings where I don’t think there will be anyone else there
The only thing more magical that seeing a movie at the theater, is seeing a movie at the theater alone, with nobody else in the theater. I’ve had it happened to me twice where I went to see a movie, and I was the only one who bought a ticket, and they still showed the movie. I felt like I was a millionaire who rented out the whole theater, but it was just a Monday evening.
I remember right after my last breakup, I treated myself to going to the theater for some horror movie I was real excited for. At the end of the previews I realized I had the whole theater to myself. It totally made my day!
I bought a ticket for a movie that would start in 6 hours, nobody else had bought a ticket by then so I was thinking I might be the only one going, but then I got there and there were like 15-20 people there and some group had booked seats literally right next to me, I was pretty annoyed lol
matinee time 11am-1pm, always empty. Ive seen Insidius 3 with like 2 other people. It was amazing.
This same experience but for a group of my friends when we saw Coco and could openly laugh, cry, and joke about the film. Was a great time!
Yessss. I love going to those early movie showtimes by myself. I feel like I can just react as openly and honestly as I want then
I’ve never seen a person who’s so proud to be from Fargo, North Dakota like Scott is, and I absolutely love that for him
i’m giving up on my local theatre that’s had “we’ll be coming back” sign for FOUR YEARS!
doesn’t look like they’ll be coming back anytime soon btw, currently a parking spot for 12
They’ll be back next week trust
A mom-and-pop theater near me said "see you reel soon" on their sign for two and a half years then closed.
Don't be a fake fan 🧐

scott exhibits a childlike wonder for the world stretching into adulthood, which i greatly appreciate because i also tend to be that way and i am constantly made fun of for it. i see myself in scott, like he says things that make me think "YES that's what I've been thinking this whole time too." scott's videos genuinely remind me that i'm not the only one maintaining an appreciative wonder for the simple things in the world and that i'm not alone.
You said this PERFECTLY. This is what I love so much about this content! I relate to having an appreciate wonder for the simple things in life, things that we can share as humans, a sense of interest together that is very relatable, a common ground. It’s hard to explain but you definitely captured my exact feelings.
life is too short to not experience childlike joy as an adult. indulge in what makes you happy 💜
i feel like this is why i can rewatch every single one of his videos over and over and they never get old i swear he’s my most rewatched youtuber
I feel the exact same. He has this cheerful wholesomeness about him
You’re perfect. Just like what you think about! Keep up the good vibes!! F everyone else ❤️
My favorite theatre brand ad were the cell phone PSA’s that AMC ran in the 2000’s. It was essentially a fake movie trailer that would be interrupted halfway through by the classic Nokia ringtone ringing in a single speaker in the theatre, then the trailer would break the 4th wall and address the interruption. It got me every time! Especially when they made a new one.
As a Wisconsinite and movie theater fan, thank you Scott for enlightening the greater internet on they joy of Marcus theaters and the living meme Greg Marcus. Hope you can experience the beauty of the Ultra Screen someday. It's truly a great experience.
I remember watching The Martian on an Ultrascreen at Century 9 in Fargo with the DreamLounger seats and it was absolutely wonderful. Most of the theater rooms, if not all at Century 9, also have those loveseat couch-style spots available and they really upped the enjoyment of that movie theater experience.
Wisconsin cheese heads rise up 🧀✊
As a movie theater employee. I respect you for getting the word out
You’re cool
Yoooo same! Theater employees unite 🤜🤛
Same same!! My theater is on the fence of getting shut down and Im going to miss walking in during my lobby rounds and seeing little bits of movies
We love taking our kid to the movies just haven’t been that many 5 year old friendly movies for a while. But it looks like they’re coming ❤❤
It's not gonna help. We need to stop the cost of living crisis. There is not really a middle class anymore.
We need to unite and demand a better life for us all. I'm sick of living in a country with so many people trapped in survival mode because life is so difficult and devastating.
falling asleep at the movies is one of those dad superpowers. every time my dad would take me to the movies as a kid, 100% guaranteed that he'd be asleep after 30 minutes
Or mom super powers. Whenever I was pregnant and at a movie I couldn’t stay away no matter how hard I tried.
It was probably the only time he could get a nap while his kids were occupied 😂
That was my mom's super power😂
As a father now I can assert that this phenomenon is 💯% true. 😂
It really depends on if the movie is any good. Normally I can stay up but as a caretaker to an 11 year old that wanted to watch the Garfield movie, I did fall asleep 😭
i LOVE going to the movie theater. i grew up poor af (and still am) so my parents never took me and i had major fomo 😭 i finally started going when i was 15 and i’ve loved it every time. it’s super expensive and occasionally i end up seated next to inconsiderate folks who talk / sit on their phone the whole time, but overall it’s magical. there’s nothing like that level of surround sound, darkness, and a giant screen 🥹everyone getting lost in another world! it’s so special!
also i’m SICKKK of people complaining about “long” movies 🙄 let us get our money’s worth! and let directors execute their vision! dune 2, renaissance and oppenheimer were INCREDIBLE to experience in a theater!
dude for real, I hate the "too long" complaint so damn much
@@kiiturii might be nice to have an intermission though if it's close to 3 hours.
My mom and brother hate seeing movies in theaters. But that means when I’m home, my dad and I just HAVE TO go see a movie together. I love the anticipatory chat on the way to the theater, picking perfect seats, the movie itself, and then our post-movie chat on the drive home. Can’t beat those chances to connect with my dad.
I am an AMC A-List member and try to go to the theaters at least once a week after work if I don’t have anything going on that evening. Cannot express just how beautiful of an experience it always is and how good for my mental health having that full escape can be. Absolutely hope more people start coming back to theaters, it’s a community experience
I tell everyone about A-List. It’s life-changing. I’ve seen so many great movies I never would’ve watched otherwise because there’s no downside. Stuff I’ve never even heard of. I’ll just watch it because it’s there. If I don’t like it, I’ll just walk out and not feel bad about it because it didn’t cost anything.
How do you find something to watch every week? I feel like I’d run out of interesting movies to watch.
It's so crazy expensive. I think more people would go if not the cost of living crisis. We really need to unite and demand from the politicians we elected they need to actually represent us and not the corporations who pay them off. I'm sick of being and seeing so many Americans in survival mode. We shouldn't be in survival mode. We should be comfortable enough to thrive.
the $25 a month is so worth it!!! even if i just see 2 movies i get more than my moneys worth back. i tell everyone about it.👏🏽👏🏽
@@FukaiKokoroCouldn't agree more
Hearing "on your 30 inch tv against the wall not mounted" was kinda scary because I'm watching this video on my 32 inch tv while it's propped up against a chair because I'm too lazy to mount it 😭 never felt so called out
I hate when they start talking directly to us
I’ve never mounted a tv. I always just set it on the stands.
This is your sign to mount that thang
@@ryokomayukabut that's a normal, acceptable use case. Leaning it up against a wall or chair with no feet or mount is different lol
@@MrMnvikingsfan I’ve never done that. I was would concerned something would happen to it. However I guess if the stand is broken then you have to do what you have to do.
I wish AMC never changed their intro from the guy being surprised and spilling popcorn to the guy being surprised and NOT spilling his popcorn. Anyways, to the point of the magic of movie theaters - I swear that there's some magic seeing a movie on the big screen. When AMC was showing all the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies, it legitimately made me emotional watching them again, even though I've seen them so many times. Do I know the plot by heart? Yes. Did it still cause me to cheer and cry and experience all sorts of other emotions? Absolutely yes. I know for a fact I don't have the same experience watching it at home.
fun little fact; in Sweden they use an edited version of that Nicole Kidman ad in theaters aswell. They cut out the part about AMC bc obviously we don’t have that in Sweden but otherwise it’s the exact same ad
En annan rolig fakta; AMC theaters äger Filmstaden (SF Bio), och det är förmodligen därför reklamen även visades i Sverige!
@@omgwhoamitho2122 hahah hade ingen aning faktiskt! Men makes sense
As a diehard movie goer, you know what I miss? MARATHONS! Or even Double/Triple Features. Nothing beats the hype of joining a crowd who are all so excited to see the same thing on a large scale. My theatre would do Trivia and give out prizes.
AMC used to do the Best Picture Showcase where for 2 Saturdays they'd show all the Best Picture Nominees before The Oscars.
Even the Star Wars Marathon back in 2015 where they showed I-VII was a blast. They started at 1am, brought free Donuts in the morning, and a concession voucher on top of the trivia. 24 glorious hours. It was a beautiful fan space to get hyped, nap if you need, stretch your legs between each showing. I miss it so much.
Since lockdown they're so rare and in select locations. We need them back!
I really love when they put old movies/classics back. Just saw Phantom Menace in theater, next week I’m gonna see Lord of the Rings extended edition Sat/Sun/Mon! Then a couple weeks later I’ll see them in theaters again in 4Dx! Excited to see my favorites with a bunch of people who also love them.
That sounds so cool 😭 a best picture showcase is genius, easy way to care about the Oscars without a bunch of homework
I saw the Lord of The Rings in an AMC theatre back in 2012 when the hobbit released. It was my first time viewing any of the Lord of the Rings movies so I got the authentic experience of watching them in theatres, it was a Saturday and took 14 hours from start to finish with breaks. Such an incredible experience, all shared with my 2 best friends, who I'm still good friends with to this day. One of my favorite childhood memories by far. I miss the magic that came with these, knowing that I'll never have a movie theatre experience to top it again is heartbreaking, but a nice memory nonetheless.
As someone who has filmed a short in a cinema before, massive kudos to the excellent camerawork and lighting here. It's hard as hell to film a room designed to be 95% in darkness. And as I made said short to celebrate the movie going experience, thank you for flying the flag! Every one of my recent outings have been empty screens and it's so sad. Theres nothing like letting a movie suck you in with every sense, every emotion.
Nothing like what? Did you die? FINISH YOUR SENTENCE!
His solution was to absolutely crank the ISO. It works perfectly but it's not exactly elegant. It gives the whole thing a crunchy, grainy look.
@@southparkfirefly I'm alive! Just terrible at typing
@@thehousecat93 I love the look! Appreciate the explanation too, I'm an editor not a camera op for a reason 😅
Prices are insane at theaters now. Kids and I can do so much more for longer for less.
Takes something special to get me out to theaters now.
I think the very shared sentiment is that the lack of theater etiquette and shorter wait times for movies to be on streaming services has caused a lot of people to stop going to theaters. Even for the big box office ones I find myself wavering to go out with friends because I just know I'll end up behind someone with their phone brightness on max who won't stop texting for two hours straight
I feel like a lot of people don’t see the point in theaters because they know the movies will be on streaming a couple months later, but I never go to theaters just because I want to watch something as soon as possible-it’s because I have fun watching a movie with a lot of other people and because it makes me feel more invested in the movie. I remember so many movies I’ve seen in theaters; they all felt like experiences worth remembering. Even when the movie isn’t good, I still have fun
I loved seeing a few of the pokemon movies in theaters because I got to talk to people I had something in common with
For real, going to the theater is an experience. The boom of the speakers, the fountain drinks that taste *just* right, hearing the rest of the audience laugh and cheer, it's something that you just cannot get at home unless you're rich. It's one so great, it actually tricked me into liking Ralph Breaks the Internet. $30+ is more than worth it in my opinion.
Completely agree. Also, maybe an unpopular opinion so let me know what you think, but I actually prefer a more crowded theater most of the time. I love getting to experience the reactions with everyone, and seeing a full lobby where people are all excited!
@@PlayerZeroStart Goosebumps just thinking about it tbh
You don't have to wait months. Most movies are simulcast on at least one streaming service.
My mom really hates youtube, and i love it. Ever since i showed a video of yours to her, she’s wanted to binge your channel with me, and whenever we see a new upload we instantly start watching it. Thank you so much for giving us a thing to connect with, and keep it up! ❤
Wholesome
I think it's hard to hate youtube (as a site, not as a corporation) unless you hardly have any exposure to it. There's something on here for everyone
I love this so much ❤
I live in a town of about 1,600 in rural Nebraska. We only have a 1-screen volunteer-run movie theater that only shows one movie per weekend at 7:30pm on Saturday and Sunday nights. Nothing fancy or special. But I love going there. It's only $4 for adults to enter, I buy a giant popcorn bucket every January for $20 and get $2 refills on it all year long. I can afford to take all my kids there and get snacks and everything. I could never do that in a large AMC/Regal theatre. Support you small, local theaters ❤
I remember back when Jurassic World first came out and it was a seat free for all. Every seat was filled and I randomly ended up sitting next to my high school Spanish 4 teacher. What a coincidence.
I think the main problem is that we just don’t have the money to go to the movies, what with it costing like $50 for the whole thing between tickets and snacks
As a recent college graduate I feel this so hard. Nothing is better than the movies theater but they are an arm and a leg for us poor people.
@@Onandagus Regal Unlimited lets you see unlimited movies for 20 a month, AMC A-List for 20 lets you see three a week which is the most that most people would do... Incredible deals. If you see 1 movie a month already, it's completely free for every other viewing
$50 ? Thats crazy, here in germany its like $10-15 also students and people who get Buergergeld (money for unemployed people) or similiar gouvernment subsidies get about 20% off. Oh and what makes this even more crazy is that most german cinemas I have been too are pretty modern and look way more comfortable than the US ones that you see on the internet
Totally agree that it’s STUPID expensive now.
But I want to add another perspective: Been out of college 5 years now (obviously not in a GOOD financial spot, but i’m “ok” lol)
The convenience of streaming new movies from home keeps me from going to the theater even more than the crazy ticket prices. Tbh I think it’s one of the good things that came out of COVID.
I haven't bought snacks for over 30 years. Just stick your m&m's in your pockets.
I'm with you on the Dreamworks intro. RIP the best intro right next to the old blue and white castle Disney VHS intro.
One of my favorite movie moments was going to see Dragon Ball Super: Broly in theaters with a lively crowd. Everyone was so hype and their reaction to every joke, explosion, and powerup really made it feel like a sporting event, the atmosphere was electric. Even though the crowd was so loud, the enthusiasm was contagious and really made me feel like the movie theater experience is irreplaceable. Tom Cruise was absolutely right
in texas, we have a TON of options for theaters, but i remain loyal to the marcus movie tavern. sometimes they're short staffed, sometimes the food gets delivered 15 minutes late, but they clearly care about serving the community with more than just the "big" movies. the amount of indies, anime, concert screenings, and retro movies i've been able to watch is insane. and they always have little events going on, like cocktails for the big movies or weirdo menu items like lasagna pizza? for garfield?? i feel a little crazy talking them up to friends so it's nice to see big time youtuber scott cramer gush about them just as much
It's called the movie theater EXPERIENCE, it's an experience, it's gonna cost more. I don't watch pov videos of roller coaster cause it's cheaper and I can pause it when I have to pee, I go to a theme park and wait in line for way too long so I can actually be on the roller coaster
As a young filmmaker it makes me so sad to see people walk away from seeing things not just on the big screen, but as a collective. The joy of watching something with a group of people who you’ll never see again, but you all for a moment get to share something whether that’s laughing or crying, not to sound like the Kidman ad but I do think that’s a magic we should hold on to. Great video, as always!
I think COVID has a lot to do with that sentiment towards movie theaters, today. We were taught to view others a potential risk to our health and people adapted to the idea. Now, people view “other people” as inconvenient to their life at a minimum and a nuisance at worst. That idea pushes people away from each other.
23:12 I snuck in my dinner when I went to see the movie Silence. Little did I know that was the most accurate movie title ever, because that was literally the most quiet movie I've ever seen!! Just opening the container of food was like hearing an explosion in that theater 🤣 I've never tried to be so quiet in my life
Honestly I keep hearing the complaint from my family of “I’d rather watch it at home where you don’t have people around you talking” - but it’s the community feeling that can’t be matched with going to the cinema. It’s like a live reaction from multiple people for us chronically online folk.
Nothing will ever capture the energy of the audience when Captain America caught Thor’s hammer in Endgame, or when Tony walked through that portal in No Way Home. Priceless.
I meant Toby but Tony would have been even more wild
Having dozens of other people enjoying, laughing or jumping in shock along with you really is a huge part of the experience for me
I love the movie theater idc
I didn't even know dreamworks changed their intro thing.
Local theater company here in Michigan called MJR, has one they play before the movie where there is a part that the audience will clap along. Classic.
I was looking for an MJR comment!!
We have Caribbean Cinemas in Puerto Rico and I felt similar affection for our intro video! (AND similarly shook when ours got updated too)
We also had a theater-only musical ad for the “Harris Paints” local PAINT BRAND that ran for literally like two decades, and it was so good that a couple of generations (mostly millennials, gen x, boomers) still reference to this day.
I'm from the city where Marcus Theaters were born. We love Greg! We love Marcus!
I love movie theaters sm, even in this economy I will happily pay for the over priced snacks, just less often now. But Scott said it best, movie magic is real and movies were meant to be watched at the theaters! Also, we need more activities with others outside of the house, movies are quintessential date, hangout, family bonding places. Please keep supporting your local theater if you can 🌸
I'll never forget going to see Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves in the theater, where they had filmed a short pre-movie sitdown with the actors, telling us that it's SO great that we went out to a theater to come see their movie, like they were proud for US doing that. It was close to when the pandemic was (supposedly) done, but it was still a weird vibe.
Dude I grew up with a Marcus theater in Minnesota, Greg was always one of my favorite parts about seeing a movie. Dude just seems so fucking happy.
Please Scott, I need more Greg Marcus lore, he seems like such a character. I appreciate your love for your hometown, as someone who grew up and still live my hometown, and I genuinely have so many memories and specific things and looking back on it in a nostalgic way makes me happy, it’s just such a unique feeling, and I love that you can capture that feeling so well! Never stop making content.
I've got a local theatre that's cheap and often times empty. I have no idea how they're still in business but I love it, really hope they stick around.
I remember going with a friend and her family on opening night to a sold out show of The Force Awakens and during that scene where the ship blows up in the middle of the movie, everyone was perfectly silent at the same silent part of the film and it was so surreal that I'll always remember that moment. Even though the movie sucked.
Scott thank you for talking about Marcus theaters, I’m from Wisconsin and have only ever been to one theater that wasn’t a Marcus. I love going to the movies and I always laugh seeing Greg pop up on the screen before every movie. Underrated theater but the best around!
Yep!! Can’t help laughing when he pops up. Gotta love value Tuesday’s!
Hey Scott!
I started learning ASL (American Sign Language) last year, and it's been incredibly impactful. A member of the Deaf community I have gotten to know is my ASL teacher, who is a movie lover - but something I have learned is how inaccessible movie theatres are for people who are Deaf/ deaf, Hard of Hearing, Neurodivergent, etc.
Closed Captioning devices at theatres are incredibly dated or not offered, so members of the aforementioned communities who rely on subtitles can't go to movie theatres; they're forced to wait for it to show up on a streaming service - and then they have to hope the people who make the captions do a good job.
Something that could help a whole new community access movies at the theatre: OPEN CAPTIONS!
That just means captions on the screen at the bottom of the screen - where everyone can see them. Maybe you can help advocate for a change.
most movie theatres ive been too are also ironically TOO loud, which makes my anxiety spike and honestly prevents me/my partners from enjoying the film
The place i work shows OC movies on the weekends and we have captioning devices that work, yet only a handful of people come to use them
I just wrote the same thing without seeing your comment. So first, I apologize. Secondly, the fact that Sony Entertainment Access Glasses and CaptiView are the only two options is insanity. Why isn't open captioning a thing?
Even a Sundance film festival jury walked out when a caption device provided malfunctioned.
AMC sometimes does screenings with captions on screen, but I haven’t checked if they’re offered for every movie-I’ll definitely keep an eye out for them tho!
This is a great point, also people who are neruodivergent and have audio processing disorders would greatly benefit from captions as well!
Late night upload?!?! Yessirskii!! 😩
That Marcus intro brought me back to my childhood in central Ohio. It was the only thing to do in my town, saw so many movies. All my friends worked there. I can't believe they changed the song, I'm devastated
I was born 1980 in the UK & getting to the cinema in time to watch the adverts in the 80's & 90's was essential for most people, much like the American admiration & efforts of Super Bowl ads. They were always funny & exaggerated, & the ad roll would always start & end with a Butterkist ad, with increasingly louder chanting of "Butterkist, Butterkist, Ra-ra-ra!", while there was just a bag of the popcorn being shaken on the big-screen, y'know, to make you want to buy popcorn if you were daft enough to have forgotten to get some already.
My first film watched at the cinema was Who Framed Roger Rabbit... good times.
I’ve never been so happy to see Greg Marcus be talked about. I see most of my movies in a Marcus Theatre
No joke, I got my girlfriend the Greg Marcus blanket for Valentine’s Day, and she loves it! Marcus is our go to in Wisconsin
YES!!! I still LOVE going to the movies! It is very expensive, so I don't go much anymore, but if money was no object, I'd experience that magic all the time! When I worked at a theater years ago, I got to see movies for free, and by the time I quit that job, I had seen all 17 movies we offered in our theater! Thanks for keeping the magic alive ❤️🍿🥤📽️
A movie theater is the second best place up cry. (The best is the walk in freezer at your restaurant job)
I LOVE movie theaters!
I honestly still love movie theaters, as someone who wants to enter the film industry, I hope they never go away!
12:30 am upload is wild. And I kinda love it 😏
It's only 6:40pm here in Hawaii. 🌴
Well, this CZcamsr is in the Midwest and so am I... It's a 12:30 upload for him
Kind of smart movie, late night internet users are here and Europeans are waking up and needing a video with breakfast
LONG LIVE GREG MARCUS. his commercials gave me life for years when i regulared a Marcus Theater.
The one thing at home streaming can’t give you is the audience energy. Sure, some people are obnoxious, but have you ever been to a movie like Spider-Man: No Way Home? It’s electric. I also distinctly remember going to see Top Gun: Maverick with a packed house, and the movie was already fantastic, but when everyone else is vibing along, it can’t be beat
Scott, please go to a landmark or something, the premier seats are game changers. Heated seats, full recline, theyre wider than normal seats. You get a little cubicle for you and another person, hooks for your coats, cubbies and side tables. Its the best
my theater has those seats too, they're absolutely ELITE
What is the place called,?
It's 12:39 AM. I just worked an 8 hour, open to close shift plus half an hour extra of closing at a snowcone stand. I'm tired and I have another 8 hour shift tomorrow (technically today). Of course I'm going to watch this entire Scott Cramer video.
I have this interesting perspective of marcus theatres. I live in the UK but my wife is from Wisconsin so over the past decade I've been to the local marcus theater about a half dozen times and I LOVE IT. The best thing about it is that for me it makes me nostalgic, it feels like a real cinema. Over here in the UK a lot of cinemas now are within malls or retail park areas, they're cold, lifeless and have no soul. Marcus theaters are the complete opposite. They just give you a cinema feeling. And don't get me started on the chairs. My life hasn't been the same since. Anytime i go to the cinema in the Uk it feels like a total waste 😂 i just end up sitting there like a squashed sardine wishing i was 3000+ miles away. Plus the price, $5 Tuesday??? Unmatched.
I went to high school with the Marcus’s and I was SOOO hoping you’d bring up Greg Marcus cause he’s a midwest ICON
THANK YOU SCOTT!!! SAVE THE MOVIE THEATERS!!!!
Going to Boston to watch "It's Such a Beautiful Day" tomorrow in theatres. Haven't given up yet!
I saw it alongside "Me" in San Francisco on Monday it was incredible, even if if audio was desynced by 5 seconds for the first half of it
Going during matinee hours 11am-1pm hits different because you'll likely have the whole theatre to yourself. This is all for me feeling. Ive seen Insidious 3 & Jem & the Holograms alone. Awesome experience
I was a manager at one of these two in Fargo for like 2-3 years and I really liked that job! The people were what made it so great. Love those folks
With this new Wolverine popcorn bucket… I’m intrigued
Its cause theres no Scott Cramer videos in the theater. If i could watch youtube on an IMAX screen, id be there yesterday
The biggest issue I have with Movie Theaters are there not being any near me. When it turns into a 30+ minute drive (Plus the commitment of being there for a few hours), I have to REALLY consider what I'm going for.
A couple years ago I moved and the closest theater to me was part of a small chain in Michigan called MJR. I had never been to one before, but at 30 years old… the intro music video changed my life. “It’s more fun at MJR”, the greatest song ever written, was blasting through the speakers and I was watching and listening in awe, and then it got to a part where everyone in the theater clapped in time in response to one of the lines, it was magical. I found something I never knew I was missing for my entire life that day
i love a 12:30 am upload to keep me up, thanks !
We have a Marcus Theater about 7 minutes from my house here in Illinois. Not gonna lie, pretty outstanding theater. Heated, reclining seats, respectable food, Ultrascreen DLX, so forth and so on.
What town? I'm in Illinois too and I didn't know heated seats were a thing
While I myself don't go the theater that much anymore (hasn't been that many movies that interest me lately) I used to work in one and watched free movies all of the time. The big allure of a theater is the fact that you can go and experience movies in a way you simply can't do at home without spending hundred of thousands of dollars to build your own theater.
That regal roller coaster intro awoke something primal in me.
My only issue with my theater is that no one shuts the fuck up. At my place everyone thinks we are there to listen to their quips and remarks, plus there are always kids throwing popcorn.
Try going to a predominantly white neighborhood. Jk. Don't cancel me people. 😂
I have experienced that a couple of times. I don’t mind a small comment here or there. But just full on dialogue….go home.
for me, i enjoy hearing other people react or remark on the movie, it enhances the shared experience in my mind. you're there seeing the movie with other people. hearing everyone react and get excited with you! thats my favorite part. if I wanted to watch a movie in peace i'd probably just watch it at home...
that said, I know theres a big demographic of people who are there to experience the movie and not the people around them. It might be cool if there were some kind of system where, say one showing is for silent audience experience and the next is for "loud" audience experience. well maybe not loud, there will still need to be some etiquette, just more relaxed. that way you can pick what kind of experience you want.
We have Harkins theaters in AZ, and they bring back older classics on Tuesdays. I got to watch Pee Wee's Big Adventure in the theater the week that Paul passed away. Was pretty special. Love the theater.
I will try not to give up on movie theaters, but I love to talk while watching movies LMAO. I know who I am as a person. So if I go to a movie theater i try to go early in the morning or very late at night. Usually there is no one in the theater during those times I am all by myself :) Otherwise I stay home because I cannot help myself
OMG I worked at a Movie Tavern in Pennsylvania from Star Wars: Rogue One (2016) to Star Wars: Rise of the Skywalker (2019) and we got bought out by Marcus in 2018. I've met Greg and I can confirm he is as nice as you would imagine he is. Questionable management... but he is definitely a jolly guy lol
W video Scott. I think that being in a theatre with family/friends is way better than just sitting at home, you dont get the full experience that way. One thing I always think of when people say theaters are not as good anymore and theyd rather watch on a streaming service is Spider-Man: No Way Home, i will never forget the experience of everyone in the theatre yelling when all 3 Spidermen came on screen together, at home youll never feel that.
As someone who's never been to a theater im sure everything you said was true
That's actually crazy.
@@punaweleweleIt is. But also I have only been to the theatre around 10 times in my life. So I'm not far off.
@@-ThatGuy-I think I’m sitting at around seven
There is one thing though that a lot of people don't think about when they say oh just sneak in something is that theaters do not make their money off of the movies themselves they make it exclusively off the snacks which is why they are expensive and if you're always sneaking stuff in and not getting any snacks then your risking losing your theater because it can't operate without making that money... Yeah maybe sneak in some candy but by popcorn or a drink to support them.
I'm old enough to remember when Safari had first-run movies but I enjoyed it much more when it became a dollar theater. I saw the Phantom Menace there more times than I'm currently willing to admit.
My favorite Greg Marcus is when he forgets to turn his phone off so it rings during the commercial and we all double check that we have ours off so we don't embarrass ourselves like ol' Greg just did.
I absolutely love movie theaters!
I only really watch classic movies, so it's usually pretty difficult for me to see the movies I wanna watch, but when I do, it's absolutely heavenly!!
I’m so happy to see a CZcamsr talking about Marcus Cinemas. I know they’re a massive chain, but as a Wisconsinite, they’ve always felt so local. I could never imagine going to AMC, the greedy countrywide chain over getting a chance to relax and watch a movie with my great friend Marcus.
Im very lucky that ive only had 1 bad experience in the theater where a guy was loudly speaking on the phone. For the most part everyone is quiet and respectful and it usually heightens the experience when youre laughing along with other people at the movie's jokes.
Counter to this, my absolute best theater experience was transformers rise of beasts. Everyone was getting hype, cheering, clapping, going "OHHH!" at the "humans are more than meets the eye" line. Everyone was just having a good time, it made me feel like i was a child again watching the og live action transformers with my cousins, and it propped up the movie from a 6-7/10 to a 8-9/10 just from the experience.
Scott your videos get so much more fun to look at, you're really doing more with the commentary genre!
And it's working since you're going more and more the more I watch, keep it up you're gonna make it to 1 million in no time
I saw all 9 Star Wars episodes in a row at a theater on May 4th. Amazing experience. Don't kill the theaters!
I also met Greg and had the most awkward conversation with him 😂 I wasn't worthy of his presence
scott it is midnight here but i am here for you
Went and saw Tarot last week at 10:45pm, some teenagers sat near me and spent the whole movie loudly talking, saying things like “If that was me…” everytime something significant would happen and just overall being a distraction. It sucked. But I guess it’s rare that I’ve had to experience that.
Getting Blazed™️ with my best friend in the middle of a blizzard and going to see a Dog's Journey still remains my fav theatre experience.
Even in some of my darkest mental health moments, I make it a point to go to the movie theater at least once a week by myself. Even if I’m seeing the horrible horror movie of the month for the third time. If I can’t stand spending time with myself, why would anyone else want to (not my mindset anymore as I gained self confidence but that was the mindset when it started)? It also gives me time to empty my mind completely and focus my attention on something else critically and emotionally (hopefully) and is a form of meditation in that way for me.
I just can't go to theaters any more it's way too loud for me. I used to love going, love the atmosphere and sharing the experience with others especially on premier nights. But it's gotten louder and louder each year and now it's not worth the pain and ringing for hours after.
Bring headphones :) I am sensitive to loud sounds so I often wear over the head headphones. You can still hear everything but it's quieter.
A lot of theaters now actually have private theaters for people who are also sensitive to you know other stimuli, hearing, a bunch of different features.
Scott your content has been on the up-and-up in quality! Been a fan for a little over a year now. Youre doing awesome and keep up the good work!
Need to get Greg Marcus to wear a Strugglr shirt in one of his ads.
Here's the thing, Scott. 40$ to go see Godzilla X Kong, 30$ for a drink for me, popcorn and M&M's for her. It's too expensive. I love the movies. It's a special experience. But it's too expensive now. I can't spend that much money on a singular experience when regularly, interesting films are coming out more and more.
Like 20 for a Marcus theater on a weekend night. Simply not fair to anyone outside of the Midwest.
You’re not required to buy concessions (bring them with you if you must have them), and most theatres have some kind of rewards program now. AMC A-List, for instance, lets you see three movies a week for $20 a month.
This is why im shocked the theater i work at has such little business. We have $10 tickets and $15 gets you a large popcorn and 2 large drinks. Its such a steal and yet still nobody wants to see movies
What kind of drink are you getting for 30 dollars??
I don't think people understood what I meant so I'll itemize everything:
Theater tickets are 20$ each
Drink is 9.99$
M&Ms are 7.99$
Popcorn is 10$
We are in Canada, everything is expensive up here, but movies especially. 40$ for just the tickets so both my wife and I can go.
They're are very few movies these days that are worth theater prices. Unless it's a big epic tentpole that is designed for a big screen, you can just watch it on demand three weeks later.
Pretty much how I have felt for a while now. I used to make a point of seeing marvel movies in theaters. But even they aren't worth it anymore.
While I understand this point of view, the issue with it is that it encourages movie studios to not give chances to new filmmakers who want to make original movies because people won’t pay to see them. Thus encouraging studios to only green light more big IP movies and other sequels that nobody needs. Original films deserve to have their time to shine on the big screen more than most others imo.
It’s also worth noting that certain theater chains have membership programs that make regularly seeing movies more affordable. For example, AMC has the A-List program which is around $25 a month to see up to three movies a week. And that includes formats like imax! With that deal you’re saving money even if you only see two movies a month! And I saw there’s a much smaller theater chain called Celebration Cinema that has a nearly identical program. It’s awesome!
Alamo Drafthouse changed my movie-going life. I go nowhere else now. Their no talking policy, amazing food and drinks including custom menus for movies like Dune. They also do social events like D&D days, cosplay viewings, and even talks with the cast. Genuinely my favorite place to go outside of my house 🥰
I don’t know who Greg Marcus is, but my favorite theater experience was when I saw “The Waterboy” in high school. The theater was FULL! Nearly everyone from high school was there. We all laughed together at the same parts, and the next Monday at school we were quoting the movie to each other (“Gatorade…”) It was an absolute blast! 💥
