- Rotten Tomatoes has employed an intricate methodology to crown L.A. Confidential as the ultimate top-ranked movie of all time. Seamlessly blending elements of the past and present, L.A. Confidential secures its position by masterfully balancing quality and unexpected twists. While the film has garnered widespread critical acclaim, it's worth noting that its cultural influence might not rival that of some older classics. Honestly a great choice. It takes a classic story, theme and time period and merged it with modern filmmaking techniques while also making great use of neo-noir filmmaking knowledge. Makes me happy to see this movie getting the recognition it deserves.
Rolo Tomasi was the deciding vote.
When (spoiler) Dude got shot I did not see it coming
I love LA Confidential and even own a copy of it but I don't think it's the best movie of all time.
And I don’t think a movie from 1997 deserves to be in the “Classic” category. I need grey hair for that.
Just watched this yesterday for the first time.
Fantastic.
My first time watching yesterday as well. Love it.... Definitely one of my favourite film!
Literally just watched this for the first time yesterday. It's indeed a phenomenal film that's aged fairly well.
Wow best movie of all time? Thats so cool. I mean I don’t know about best, but its been in my top 5 of all time forever and generally when I tell people, a lot have never even seen it. Glad its getting recognition it deserves. Its fantastic.
I'm curious about what a more Aussie version of LA Confidential would've been like? Nicole Kidman in Bassinger's role, Hugo Weaving in Cromwell's role and Jackman in Spacey's?
Love this film, love Casablanca, and the Godfather I and II. I think ranking films is subjective; after all those ranking them are only humans. What one critic thinks is good, another will disagree.
I have no trouble with this pick. I have both LA Confidential and Casablanca on DVD and I can easily say that I watch LA Confidential more often. It is a fantastic movie.
Better than The Shawshank Redemption ranked #1 on IMDB.
and nobody's mentioned the elephant in the room...Kevin Spacey

Always loved this movie.
One of the most complicated and interesting noir movie
L.A. Confidential didn’t even win best picture that year - although it should have. Titanic was a juggernaut that year.
Great film but this choice is terribly ignorant.
A good movie? Yes, best movie ? Not even close lol, its like a 7.6 imbd rating
