Master & Commander? The Nice Guys? A Beautiful Mind? This guy has done so many world-class perfomances, he doesn't even get around to 3 masterpieces!! And BTW, M&C and TNG are 2 of the most underrated movies ever. The Bettany/Crowe and Gosling/Crowe pairings were pure genius, one of drama & the other of comedy.

Crowe in LA Confidential is one of Hollywood’s most underrated performances of all time.

That was the first time I had ever seen him on film before. It had remained my favorite performance of his until Gladiator of course. Maximus...Crowes Magnum Opus!

The Insider is so criminally underseen, I’m happy it was represented here. That and Master and Commander deserve a bigger audience.
The Insider was not just about the tobacco industry, but also the selling out of news journalism. So I could underdtand how Crowe couldn't get a handle on who was the "lead character". He and Pacino did a wonderful dance. And that it's based on true events and real people, is even more compelling.
Very vaguely remember there was going to be a Master and Commander sequel...which was either cancelled by the studio due to cost or the original didn't do well enough. It was a good movie.
@@carolyna4484 Yep it was considered a bit of a bomb. There was a lot of talk about the title not testing well and the studio not knowing how to market the movie. Ridiculous because it’s such a great film-writing, directing, characters, action set pieces, historical accuracy, all the way across the board.
Love this guy. He’s very real, for the most part. He had it all and was happy to wander. It wasn’t about money, it was just pride and artistry. He feels like a pure artist.

Sadly somehow what I would consider one of the greatest films of all time seemed to just slip by everyone unnoticed. I dont get why but it never got the credit it deserved. A lot of people, even the ones that would like it, don't know it even exists. I don't get it. I mean there is no other film like Master and Commander. It is one of a kind. It just feels so real. Like you are actually there in that moment in time on that ship.
Master and Commander, A Beautiful Mind, Hammers Over the Anvil, and lots more. He's promoting "Unhinged" at the end, but no amount of rationalizing will convince me that that movie isn't just a piece of garbage of the B-movie slasher variety. Bad career choice for such a great actor. Oh, I forgot to mention, he was amazing in "The Loudest Voice in the Room," but it should be a wakeup call to him that he's in the weight league now of Roger Ailes.

That decapitation was such a nice touch. It gave the character a sense of being so much at the top of his game he's bored and getting creative just to entertain himself. Really cool that Crowe came up with it, it's clear he really understood the scene he was in.

Love Russell as an actor and combined with Ridley, magnificent. Anything the duo works on, I want to see. Nobody mentions Russell's voice. Love his voice. He modulates it beautifully for a part. Gladiator, that vengeance clip, he brings gravitas to it using his eyes and that voice. Love it.

The way he spoke about Gladiator was epic, side note, their version of Robin Hood is so underrated.
In Gladiator, I felt so emotional thorough the movie, that was an incredible rendering. As well as, every character that he had played in other movies, were acted so realistically, that I felt as if it had really happened. My respect goes to this actor. He truly deserves the Oscars that had been given to him. 🙏
Unpopular opinion, i loved Robin Hood. Everyone should watch The Nice Guys though.

I think you'll find he's the one we want and need right now
The first time I saw Russell Crowe was in “The Quick and the Dead”. He spent most of the movie chained to a pillar in this old West town. He was totally unknown here in the U.S but Jesus, I couldn’t take my eyes off him. Saw “Romper Stomper” after that. I loved young Russell Crowe so much. And then (after “Gladiator”) he got old and doughy and had some bad report cards in the School of Being Civil to Other People and my love disappeared.
This interview was great. I’ve never seen/heard Crowe speak so eloquently and with such love towards the people he’s made movies with. So - great interview , GQ or whoever made this happen.

Absolutely that is a underrated at least by the public eye gem of a movie. An actual masterpiece in my opinion.
Russell Crowe fan here... but Unhinged was pretty unremarkable. Basically a way less interesting Terminator without the time travel.
Probably no one will ever exceed his perfect skill in Gladiator.

I made the mistake of rewatching it lately and my god we have come a long way with fight scenes since then. Story and acting is still marvelous, but the fights looks like a B-film compared to todays movies.

Gladiator is one of my top 10 favorite films ever made and Russell Crowe earned that Oscar.

One of my favorite actors. So many great movies that he has done: Gladiator, L.A. Confidential, and The Insider are my favorites. The scenes between him and Al Pacino in the The Insider were super intense.
Robin Hood is also great. Probably Russel Crowe's most underrated role.
LA Confidential remains one of my favorite movies, an unforgettable introduction to the acting of the relatively unknown RC. He's compelling in every role he plays.
@Susan L I may be the only person in existence put to sleep by LA Confidential. Having gotten into film noir of the American 1940s and 50s to the point of becoming a scholar on that period in that genre, LAC just comes across as a pale imitation of the period. The real grit is in films like The Narrow Margin (1952), Touch of Evil, Odds Against Tomorrow, Shield for Murder, The Asphalt Jungle, 99 River Street, Armored Car Robbery... --No offense meant, at all. Though Ellroy's novel is what it is, Hanson had little interest in imitating or reviving the noir genre, as he often stated. Anyone trying to draw too many parallels will be disappointed. Unique cultural and historical events emerge when 'stars align', and can never be truly repeated. Credit to Hanson for knowing that.

Growing up I’d watch so many of his movies and he’s definitely my fav actor amongst many. A Beautiful Mind and A Good Year definitely are my favs. Overall I really enjoyed every minute of this video! I hope all goes well with him for the rest of his life ❤
One of my favorite actors whose movies I never miss. Gladiator being one of the personally top 5 movies of all time for me. His eyes and his presence are his strength as an actor. Wish he made more movies since noticing he seems to be slowing down. Some actors leave a lasting legacy of great roles and he will be one of those. He is a great entertainer and a great representative of Australia.
I don’t know how to explain this, but he’s very comforting here. Like, if I were to go into surgery then while waiting in the prep room, I’d want this Russell to comfort me with words of assurance.

This was truly fantastic. I thought Russell Crowe did an amazing job detailing his process in making these movies. I would LOVE to have a series like this where other actors do the same thing. I guess I'll subscribe in the hopes that there are more.

Rusty’s a great raconteur and a great actor! I know he had a strong career but I still feel like Hollywood didn’t get his full potential.
One of the best actors I've ever watched. He effortlessly commands your attention because he's that good. It seems like this man can take any role and make it his own.

Gladiator is still high on the list of the most emotionally riveting films I have ever enjoyed and one of Hanz Zimmer's best sound tracks as well.
