- Excerpt from the last episode (13) of the anime "Kacho Oji (Oji the Section Chief: Hard Rock Saves Space)" aka "The Legend of Black Heaven".
The revived Watanabe counters all of their attacks, outdoing all their songs, using their own Ultimate Weapon against them. When all hope is just about lost, Yoko comes along finally accepting the call and bringing in their old fans. Instead of playing their upbeat classics, Oji decides to play what's currently in his heart, the song he was writing throughout the whole season,
a heartfelt power ballad.

Watched this anime 2009 for the first time. 2015 I was searching for it but couldn't find it anywhere. Today I bought the DVD collection 2 times. I saw it and just had to get it. Felt like falling in love for the first time.

Hands down,my favorite ending to any anime ever. Oiji got to relive his glory days with his band,He played along all his old bandmates ,saving the world through the power of their music and top it,he got a smooch from the cute alien girl. This series was good from start to finish and has become my no.1 favorite.
This scene has the same vibe of Squidward composing Sweet Victory at the super bowl.
Those big Hendrix-style chord progressions. Just really bring it all home. Still an all time anime all these decades later. Only hits harder when you put some years on the board.

The music in this anime is so powerful despite being instrumental in nature. You could feel the emotions.

The fact that Tanaka and the band actually already gave up because they are no match for the resurrected keyboard player. He just wanted to play for the last time with this song for his wife and telling through song that how much he loves her before they all gonna die. Makes me feel goosebumps Everytime

How I understand it was, yes, they gave up fighting. They just want to play for the love of music, to truly express what they feel honestly without a care for the world and the problems they are in. Art. The purest form. And that's what the machine runs on all along.

One of the all time great anime endings. This is a totally underrated anime. A real gem; I found it by mistake one day and it was a refreshing change from the usual hero/mecha/martial arts themes anime retreads over and over

I'm in love with this last song. The first time I watched this scene it was like meh, but oh my, It's too powerful.
Same. Kinda. First time I watched, I was so hyped with the battle and story that I didn't notice the song much. Only revisiting was I head over heels for it.
my tears were raging all the way through this act of manlyness. my spine shivered, my ears tingled with enjoyment. and then when they stand together for their final moment and she kisses him and the music lifts damn.... that was so powerful my body's testosterone level just went off the charts. this is one of the most UNDER RATED animes ive ever stumbled across.a breath of fresh air. i love this song, the anime and the voice actors for the english dub.
They will always have Black Heaven where Hell itself cannot stop their dreams.
I would gladly waste a Genie's wish on making a new version of this anime. So long as they keep this song.
This was one of the most powerful scenes for the end of an anime that I've seen.
Doesn't this song just slightly bring tears to your eyes? Not just by how amazing this anime is, not just by the anime's ending, but just by the heart and soul they put into it, and the making of the music. It was only 13 ep, but it is an anime that I will forever always hold it with me and never forget it. May Black Heaven one day touch the world.
This was by far the greatest anime I have ever watched. The storyline, the music, the characters, everything was perfectly done. It will live on in my heart forever, and in everyone's heart whose watched this anime.

A great way to end such a phenomenal series. I'd like to think before Layla and Oji part ways, she requested one last song for him to play and it being Layla by Eric Clapton (unplugged version).
The song is by Derek and the Dominoes. Without Duane Allman's slide it is only half as good

joseph watanabe was the pianist of the original Black Heaven. After his death, the enemies took his body and made a mecha with his skills to fight against the "new" Black Heaven ...
I was just watching Hendrix doing the national anthem and this kinda reminded me of that, oddly, so I ended up here...
It's like he's doing the bittersweet anthem of all of earth and he's harnessing it and they catch on and it's not just this oversimplified man is more sacred than machine or abomination BS trope.
It's a believable plot device and has inspired me a bit with another character I've made in terms of a rock battle scene. I love when the animation bleeds through the lines in this and things go dereal.
I remember hearing this way back Eelemntary School Days and Untill now... and first thing that comes into my mind is Last in line by Ronnie James Dio... I really Love This Song...
I liked this series when I was a teen, but watching the clips now as an adult hits different. There's emotional weight, and the ending song pulled me in a way that I didn't expect at all.
Man, I think this was the best ending theme ever. I need to learn the shredding part of the solos.

@Mrkiller1295 , the one who composed this is also the OST guy for Bubblegum Crisis (forgot name). Don't know who he played it with (or maybe all by himself). John Sykes' only involvement with the anime is the Intro theme / most played song by Oji.

If you haven't seen it yet, go watch Beck:Mongolian Chop Squad. That one has an amazing soundtrack too. Watch the English dub though, its one of the very few anime that has a better eng dub.
The English-Japanese code switching by the siblings was one of the best parts. As well as the white friend that can speak Japanese

Oji was the one who taught me to use pocket change as a guitar pick. I used it as an alternative but later on preferred the grungy thick sound compared to plastic. wrecked my strings tho, worth it

@@TheCompodulator it does tend to damage it a little bit, interestingly, it's not uncommon to use a metal pick on bass guitars. probably because they have thicker strings

I love this anime! finished watching this just today but there's one thing that bothered me with all shows that have countdowns.
The countdown have already reached 0 way before they either finish or do something.
By my count...everyone should have been dead at :42 though the girl's countdown was pretty slow to the real thing lol

who is joseph watanabe? i don't know who he is
Watanabe was the keyboardist of Black Heaven. When the band broke up he went solo and became a big star in the USA. However an unfortunate incident with a middle finger got him killed.
The aliens that fight Oji discover Watanabe's corpse and reanimate it. As he knows all of Black Heaven's songs he counteracts Oji and the band's playing and even nearly controls the ultimate weapon. Oji only beats him by playing a new song, which overpowers him.
