I'm just gonna be honest, Ulti seems like she is actually just the strongest of the Tobi Roppo. Especially if you remember the fact that she didn't just take those big hits from Big Mom and Nami at the end. She also fought, pretty evenly, with Luffy for a bit, and took a surprise Thunder Bagua to the jaw from Yamato. She then fought for an extended period of time with Nami and Usopp, who were mainly doing hit and run tactics. All before taking a serious blow from Big Mom, and she was still able catch up to Nami and Usopp, and would have likely still beaten them if not for the assistance of Zeus.
I mean, in terms of shear durability, the girl seems to out-class the others by a mile. And That's not to mention the fact that she is actually kind of stupidly strong as well, since she was actually able to forcefully restrain Luffy for a bit.
Her main issue seems to be, ironically, that she's too hard-headed for her own good, sometimes.

Ulti honestly impressed me with her endurance. She fought Luffy, Yamato twice, got hit by Big Mom and then Nami. That's a hella lot of beating she took and she still managed to keep getting back up. The difference between her and Page One is so large.

I’d have to disagree as well. I see your point, and in any other, not battle-centric arc, I would agree with you. However, this is a war, a raid on a Yonko’s territory. Fights should be par for the course. Not expecting fights here doesn’t seem realistic to me.
Also, this is a story about pirates. You should almost always expect fights to take place at any point in time. Gol D. Roger said as much himself.

I rly hope we get more about the all stars during kaidos backstory. I want to know exactly what made him hand pick Jack. When he stood up for Jack and said “your not weak, they are just strong” it was very weird. We hadn’t seen Kaido act so non abusive towards his group. And now that we see Kaido smiling in kings backstory…. Man I want to see Jack and Kaido being super wholesome. teaching him How to use haki or something.

@@djmeagaaim17 i mean, Luffy never had any personal beef with him, the minks did, i'd say this was handled appropriately. at this point, Luffy has already had a taste of a third division kind of commander and that was Cracker and won. then he jumped to the No:1 and beat him, why would Oda bring him back to square 1? the only way that would work was to Flex, but that would just undermine Kaido's crew which was not the premise of what Oda intended so someone less stronger but still stronger were the mink kings Neko and inuarashi.

I feel like a big theme within this arc as a whole is loyalty and lack of it. Drake and Appoo were mainly there to show more of how many issues Kaidos crew had from within (kind of the same concept as queen attacking both friends and foes), and with Drake switching sides (even if he did next to nothing), it was one less person fighting for kaido

I can appreciate that Hawkins hasn’t really served a major role in the arc but I feel like it would have been nearly impossible for him to not be in the arc with him being part of the alliance that Apoo betrayed. I agree he could have been better used in another arc but I don’t think him being in this arc could have been avoided unless he hadn’t been in the alliance to begin with.

While I personally have no problem with the way that Hawkins got used in this arc (he probably did more in wano than Apoo AND Drake did combined), I can understand why some people seemed to think that he should've done more. The thing is tho, there is no way that he wasn't involved in this arc, since he was a part of Kidd's initial alliance. Also, he probably wouldn't have fled during Kaido's attack since simply surrendering to Kaido probably would result in a much higher survival chance than fleeing would've imo.

    • @itsblitz4437

Yeah I see what you mean, I can say the same for Perospero, all he did was serve as "revenge plot device" for the revenge storyline resolution for Carrot's arc and for Nekomamushi to fight someone which I felt like was unnecessary and felt kind of petty to be honest, I get that Perospero is a arrogant jerk but I kind of felt sorry for him that is he getting piled on for the death of Pedro, a death of which he was all willing to sacrifice himself to help Carrot and the Straw hats.
The rest of the Big Mom Pirates, the ones that came with Big Mom to Wano, like they still could had a big role in the story and yes, granted that would have been way too many enemies for the StrawHats and their allies to handle, but some of them (such as Smoothie and Daifuku) could have a fight, like say with the Minks, but no nope. So why even appear in this arc to begin with.

By and large I agree that a lot of the fights resolved faster than I would've liked, but at the same time I think a problem for me and some in the community is that because Oda kept bouncing around from fight to fight and location to location, we lost some perspective and forgot/didn't realize how long some of the fights were, and that if Oda instead went "Here is the start and Finish of Jinbe vs Who's Who, now here is the start and finish of Sanji vs Queen, and now here is the start and finish of Zoro vs King" and so on the pacing would've felt a lot better to me and most others in the community.

I actually feel that introducing one fight after another wouldn't work. There's a flow, and a lot of people are focusing too much on the fights, and not the story beats around them. I kind of feel like this type of writing is very useful in one piece because it allows things to go on. In a lot of stories the plot revolves around the characters, but in one piece a lot of character Central things do advance the plot, but at the same time there are events around the world that affect the characters which in turn affects the plot. So what I'm trying to say is that in one piece characters are much more interconnected, meaning that the things they do matter, whether or not we see those things.
TLDR: What I'm trying to say is you're right we do forget that the fights all happen at once, and that we don't see a lot of the things that are happening because we're constantly switching perspectives. However be pacing would be worse if we only saw a single fight at a time because you missed the story beats and plot connections.

    What upset me about Perospero is how Carrot was kind of shafted. I would've definitely liked some attention on her, showing a bit more emotion and development on Pedro's death, but I think all we really got was "Wanda, that's the guy who killed Pedro! Let's get him!" And I would've liked it if she got the final hit in, even if you needed Neko to weaken him. As for Ulti and Page One, well, still have the same complaints as before. ^^;

I have a theory Carrot got shafted since she attracts 'furries' and was given a much smaller role than she might've had in wano due to either fan or editor backlash from that. You know how both the furry lovers and furry haters are very extreme in their opinions after all, although I'd say the haters are much more vocal than the lovers.

I didn't like how Jack was defeated in the end. I get that he seemingly wasn't supposed to fight a big shot enemy, but he was an Allstar, one of the top commanders, after all. Let him at least get defeated by a group effort of multiple scabbards to show how they try to do their part in the battle after getting stomped themself by Kaido, or do something else to highlight him as the third strongest! But no: Here comes lord doggy, once again turning into Rainbow Mario for the 100ths time (yes, I think Sulong was boring in Wano for being spammed by the Minks non stop with seemingly no drawback)

32:00 as you were talking here about the beheading of Orochi, I thought about what if Kaido had used a Seastone blade when he cut off the head of Orochi..... Wait, Smokers weapon, the tip was seastone, but why not the whole thing? Zoro/Mihawk: coat it with armorers or conquerors, duh..... Wait if you can learn that then why aren't there actual swords made from seastone? I think this helps explain why the WG Navy doesn't just teach everybody Haki. If everyone knew how strong they could be how many more people would try to be that strong; if enough strong and strong willed meet people are together then you'd end up with more than just a Revolutionary Army.

    Sand out fights to me:
Robin vs Black Maria: The first time Robin has had a fight in forever, it was evenly matched, with good pacing and a cool power reveal. Probably the best non emperor related fight of the arc in my opinion.
Sanji vs Queen: I wish it was one chapter longer, because it felt like they damaged each other too much off screen. But, I really liked everything else about it.
Jack vs Neko and Inurashi: For sure a good fight. We didn't need this one to be as long due to motivations being established already; plus the revenge moment was so badass.
Hawkins vs Killer: This fight was good. Killer's struggle, loyalty, and strategy made this fight really enjoyable; could this have been apoo instead of Hawkins and gotten the same result? For sure. But it was really nice to see Killer having an impact on the war.
Solid fights that would have benefitted from one or two more chapters each:
Zoro vs King - the tide turned waaaaaaaaayyy to quickly considering how strong King is supposed to be. I think the lack of back and forth hindered this fight's full potential.
Jinbei vs Who's Who - Lot of great lore revealed here, but it felt like Oda cared far more about that than the fight itself. The CP0 scene where they went 'oh Who's Who is fighting Jinbei, he's fucked" told me that these two never should have been matched up. I love Jinbei's fighting style, but two more chapters would have made me believe Who's Who was a worthy opponent.
Franky vs Sasaki - This fight was super creative, fun, and hilarious; I wish it went two chapters longer. They felt evenly matched and are clearly both endurance oriented fighters. I just think a longer fight would have been better
    Bad fights:
Nami vs Ulti/Ussop vs Page One - They dropped the ball here. Lots of good character moments for both Nami and Usopp; but neither of them doing the majority of the legwork really bummed me out. I wish these two got full enies lobby style one vs one fights.
Scabbards vs Kanjuro - Kanjuro is an awesome villain; but this fight was all over the place. The first encounter outside was beautifully done; and saves this plotline for me. But once Kanjuro came back, it felt soooo redundant.
Carrot/Wanda/Neko vs Perrospero - I hate this fight. It has every terrible qualitiy of the wano fights all rolled into one. It was almost completely off-screen, felt extremely rushed, undercut Carrot's entire character arc up until this point, and felt devoid of emotional stakes because it was so disjointed.

But I think I was most disappointed by the Tobi Roppo not for anything other than I had higher expectations for them. When I found out if they captured Yamato they would have been able to fight for a Calamity position I thought they must be close in level to a commander these guys are tough. After their fights though A. None of them would have even come close to slowing down Yamato down let alone catching her. She would have walked through all 5 of them simultaneously B. In the off chance they were able to bring her to Kaido, King and Queen would have the easiest fight of their lives keeping their position. (Jack probably high diffs them) But looking back at their final fights they were excellent and at the perfect level to take on our Strawhats (Jimbei might have deserved better)

Hawkins - I feel like Oda wrote himself into a hole in chapter 795 (at the end of DRESSROSA) when he included Hawkins in the alliance the fought Kaido. The way Oda decided to tie Kid and Apoo to Wano/Kaido meant that Hawkins had to be included unless he was killed/defeated or somehow escaped.
Drake however I feel was pretty important (in a way) to Wano and I think because of his devil fruit he had to be tied to the beast pirates.
Things that Drake has caused or help cause in wano:
-We learn about SWORD and Koby being a member of it
-He saves Law from prison, why did he do that?
-His presence causes Sanji to wear the raid suit for the first time or else he would be recognized
-It was Hawkins that did this but he could have been the one to recognize Soba Mask/Robin/Nami in the bathhouse
-Interaction with CP0 (Sword vs Shield)
Some of these things theoretically could be done by Apoo or Hawkins as they can be done by any beast pirate that would recognize the straw hats

I mean we’re more than 20 years in, this dude should be fighting at this point. One of the biggest wars in the anime’s history, definitely the biggest conflict the SH’s have ever been a part of, and this dude wants no smoke with anyone. Does it really matter if he finally becomes legit at the very end of the story? Like “sorry I’ve been a bitch for 25 years, but bow that we’re at laughtale and the journey’s about to be over, I’m ready to fight!” -_-. So disappointing. Other than King, Jack, Ulti, and Hawkin's fight, I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED by all the other fights. Here's why (keep in mind they're all ancient zoans):
    1. Queen: He just kicked around a bunch. That's all. I feel like as an All-Star with over a billion bounty, you gotta be more durable than that. Granted, he did fight Marco, but so did King. And King's fight was phenomenal.
    2. Who's Who: He got punched a few times. That's all. For somebody who's supposedly touted as the strongest Tobi Roppo, he sure wasn't durable at all. Remember how Ace fought Jinbe for 10 days? This dude's weaker than rookie Ace.
    3. Sasaki. Same problem as Who's Who. Franky is definitely strong, but he's not nearly as strong as say, a Supernova. This fight ended in a way that makes me feel that Franky just defeated a supernova-level character very easily. Heck, Franky had more trouble fighting Senor Pink.
    4. Black Maria: She got snapped. That's all. Seriously, you're a fucking ancient zoan. Ulti took a fucking cannon blasted through her stomach and got struck by a massive thunderbolt before falling. Maria just got bent over and she's defeated. Like WTF??? I'm sorry, but there's no way Robin's techniques are that strong. We all know that.
    5. Page One: This one is self-explanatory. Similar to all the others on the list. An ancient zoan's gonna be much tougher than this. A single conqueror's punch? Really??? Law got pummeled by Big Mom when he was laying on top of her, and keep in mind Law is widely known as somebody who doesn't have much stamina. Really felt that it's gotta take more than a single punch to defeat an ancient dinosaur user.
And I also have problems with the scabbards. What the fuck is that Kinemon ass-pull shit? Kaido cutting him exactly in the spot where Law cut him, where miraculously he somehow didn't get 'properly attached' so Kaido's blade didn't actually cut him? Fuck that shit man. I love Oda, but sometimes he really writes the dumbest shit. And yes I agree with Tekking that Sulong Wanda and Carrot could've defeated Perospero. It would've made more sense for Neko and Inu to fight Jack together. Which also reinforces the closure of the Jack-Zou feud. And Kiku really should've just died, although it'll be really sad. Getting an arm lopped off and getting stabbed by Kaido? Like who're we kidding? Come on, we're in a war for god's sake. Casualties are a guarantee.

You have a point that there are plot lines and characters in Wano, i.e., Drake or Hawkins, who could have been addressed in other arcs.
However, given the way Oda wrote these characters and the set up, what with Drake actively looking for Kaido pre time skip and Hawkins being there with Apoo and Kid when Kaido fell from the sky, it was inevitable for them to be there.
I want to say that Drake’s presence here will pay off as a result of his tie to SWORD but ya never know these days 😅

I was very underwhelmed. I was expecting Enies Lobby style fights, where we got new techniques or evolutions in abilities for everyone, but only Robin’s really lived up to it. Sanji’s was good thematically, but they were both too short and we didn’t get to see much of the beast pirates in action. I understand it’s already a long arc, but usually there’s more payoff than this.

Please... Sanji took like 3 hits... Hell, did he even pass out cuz of the damage or was it just the sudden awakening of his Germa genes? The fight felt like a mid-diff maximum...

@@clydu91just a quick comparison, Sanji vs Jabra was 35 pages. Sanji vs Queen was 34 pages, and I was even generous with that number. Going back to count any time they even shared a scene. So no. It was not “literally Sanji’s longest fight”. He took more damage against Black Maria than against Queen too. It’s also not the closest Sanji’s come to death. He did almost die to the point even Chopper was concerned on Fishman Island. A gag was a bigger danger to his life than your headcanon.

I’m about half and half on the fights this arc. Most of the ones we got were awesome, but there are also some things that were really underwhelming or didn’t come into play where they should have. What was the point of Big Mom bringing half her crew if Perospero was going to be the only one to actually fight? And I thought the numbers were going to be the other main threat after the all stars and Tobiroppo, but they were a joke. Brook definitely needed more to do, and I wish Usopp was able to get the finishing blow on Page One like Nami did with Ulti. I really feel like Jinbe in particular got shafted, because his was the most one sided of all the Tobiroppo fights. Robin,Nami, and Usopp all took a beating, and Franky lost the shogun, which does nerf him until he can rebuild it, but Jinbe pretty much one shotted Who’s Who. And with him being by far the strongest Strawhat after the monster trio, him having another fight, maybe finishing off Jack or fighting one of the stronger BM pirates like Smoothie or Difuku would have gone a long way. And I get why it makes sense story wise for Inurashi to fight Jack, but it still feels weird one of the all stars being finished off by someone other than a Strawhat. Especially since he already had Inu and Neko take Jack down on the roof. And maybe it was because I expected him to flee or switch sides, but I was kind of disappointed that Hawkins ended the arc as an enemy. It was just a little off for a supernova to end up as a throwaway fight for Killer. But I can’t complain about any of the endgame fights, because they’ve all been great!

If king appeared to the SH crew again and told his Life story I could see Franky breaking down crying and saying Please let him join us Luffy he's all alone, King For Straw Hat I doubt it
I agree that Perospero didn't need to be in Wano neither did Hawkins

Tekking, like you said. I wish the fight between Sanji and Queen could have went on for another chapter or even half a chapter. It was cool to see that Queen was able to replicate Sanji's sibling techniques. I think the reason why Queen was able to copy those techniques is because when Queen was still part of MADS. He might have helped Judge came up with the prototype for the raid suits. I wish Queen would have created some kind of scientific creation, like a virus or drug that's specifically for his DF. He would only use it as a last result. I mean, look at Chopper. He was stuck on an island for most of his youth, and he was still able to come up with something for his DF using medicinal herbs and grasses found on DI. You mean to tell me that Queen. Who was once part of the most intelligent scientist group. Who knew a little bit about the linage factor. Who's part of an Yonko crew. Who with the snap of his fingers can get any ingredients, materials, equipments that he wants around the world, couldn't come up with something for his DF. I was hoping to see an ancient Zoan awakening from either Queen or King. This arc is perfect for Zoan awakening.

The fights were too short in my opinion and from what I saw....They should all have gotten back up multiple times. Ulti tanked, Yonko attacks, multiple lightning strikes and all kinds of stuff and kept coming back until finally getting takin down by Nami. Big Moms conquerer infused punch beating Page 1 makes sense. But Who's Who, Sasaki, Possibly Black Maria. All of them shouldve gotten back up, just feels like Oda suddenly nerfed the Ancient Zoans endurance feats I guess

  • @geckomoriadaimyoofwano7157

Wouldve been cool to have a Franky flashback to the sea train incident before taking a tricerabullet from Sasaki. Im sure Oda could spin it in a really emotional and cool scene for Frankys character
