@@paulbellas8797 actually the previous owners - the Nuttings - made major business changes - bars close early, spring carnival is replaced by pond skim, poor grooming, pathetic food service and lots of others. Vail seems to be better at snow management.
Squaw Valley had some of their best snow ever, when this movie was filmed in 1983. 760 inches of snow combined fell during the fall and spring of 1981-82, and 1982-83. Northern California has never had anything close to resembling these epic conditions.
Utah native here....the winter of 1983-84 Alta ski resort had over 800 inches total snowfall for the year. The powder was so light and fluffy it was like flour dust. It was the greatest time of my life.
This, and "Hold On." Yeah, you could not make this movie today. Glad I was able to enjoy this back then. Night skiing in Sauveur was the best back then. This movie rocked for us ski bums.
Loved the movie. Loved the song. Crap, haven't skied since 1996. I through out my Raichlie boots, Olin skis, and Solomon bindings. At 52 years old I need to try it again!
Saw this movie when I was skiing in Steamboat for the first time. Its a sad song but it works so well. Best ski movie ever made. Good times. Shame the world has gone to shit since then.
Mitch was up in port Huron Michigan about 5 years ago, nobody can do it like Mitch he hung around and did autographs, what a cool dude. His voice was perfect. Long live Detroit rock!
@@M167A1 Glad you got back into it! Yes things sure have changed. I also went about 18 years. Been skiing as much as possible the past 10, having a blast ! Life is short.
17yrs. old, high school student when this came out, couldn't ski enough.....a little misty eyed now that my hips won't let me ski anymore....for now anyway.
Take me back to 1983 skiing along with all the skin-flic movies of the ragin' 80s. Old school Tahoe.... before the Vail Corp monsters engulfed the mountains we all used to ride. Warren Miller, Vaurnet glasses, skiing in suspenders with Bota bag. Ahhh.. this period in time was the best.
Right there with ya, 20 in 83 in college Steamboat that year, hard liquor in the Bota, had my 150 dollar Vaurnets (a shitload of money then). Ha lost them while boating a couple years later so bought same pair again...still got them! 🙂
Damnit, I finally hit the age where I think it was so much better back in the day. Skiing on 210cm skinny planks wearing tight ass pants and a sweater...my kids are laughing at me.
It's snowing like crazy, another season is around the corner and I'm back getting psyched with a little Hot Dog footage. Happy Chinese Downhill everyone and Rudi you can still kiss my ass right in ze middle.
It’d be wicked if the full movie was on here somewhere. I wanna say I was in Crested Butte in the 1980’s, and I walked past a two screen movie theater and this movie was on one screen and Full Metal Jacket was playing on the other. Skiing in the 80’s was a blast.
Both good in their right....different times, different movies. I was 21 when Hot Dog came out.....in Ski Club at college so I gotta lean a little bit that way! Lol.
@@rushrush1209 Sorry, I still don't consider it a sport. I see snowboarders in the olympics and they all look like they just smoked some dope before their olympic run.
Whats interesting is Mitch Ryder was with one of the Detroit beginning of rock breakthrough bands from the 60's--"Mitch Ryder and the DETROIT WHEELS" (ALONG WITH THE MC5 and such) and an unlikely marriage ("Jenny--take a ride" was their signature song) and Mitch saw enough in Prince's talent to do his song as a tribute..
LAY OFF Rudy! That is pretty funny though. ;-) Harkin "Snake-Legs" Banks could make some turns but you see. "...that's the thing about ol' Rudy, he sure can ski!" (and the "REAL" Austrians I know are some of the coolest, most AWESOME people I have ever had the privilege of meeting. And INDEED They sure can ski!) PEACE!
This scene and song was pure magic.

Lay tuck tuck triple
This movie ruined my life! Because of this movie I had to be a ski bum just once. That was 1987. Been on skis some 3,000+ days since! 😂⛷️😂⛷️
Luv u man!!
Never made it to the slopes, stuck around the water, Pensacola, Clearwater, South Beach. 57 now, Hollywood bch., for a minute..✌️

Rudy!
Best version of this song!
grew up watching this movie...in Ohio....now I live in Colorado and do this all the time!
For some reason, this song worked so well with this skiing Montague. Used to make me wanna head up to Keystone.
Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels Cover Prince=Way Cool:)
I skied to this song playing on my cassette Walkman
me too! 1984 at all the resorts in Lake Tahoe.
Hell yeah!!!
Mine would get cold from the wind and slow down, even when inside my jacket.
I had this whole sequence memorized back in the 80's and would incorporate different parts of what they did during this video into my skiing.
Such a legendary scene!!! One of my favorite movies…BY A LOT
My favorite movie.
I love love love this song!! Best version too!

Yes this movie is the height of civilization
3 years later & the world Has Really gone to shit
It works well because the beat of the song and the cadence of the skiers side to side movements are almost exactly in sync, particularly here 1:47

Love listening to this song while im skiing...Still a great song today!

In college in 83! Watched this movie so many times! Yes we had no helmets. Now my wife says if I'm skiing I'm wearing one. Lol.
I took a 30-year hiatus from skiing and I was amazed I had to wear a helmet when I went back..

We needed much more skill to keep our skis parallel, now you just lean and they carve right in like "easy" mode in games.
Best part not one loudmouth punk snowboarder !! Ahh times were good. And we shredded in powder and moguls on 210cm planks
😄😆

“Very clever” then the Sunny routine. 🤣

It such a great song though
I think Prince remade this song from them. It was on his 2007 ep, "Planet Earth". I have the cd.
