Jack Carlson, along with his brothers, Jeff and Steve, were the inspiration for the Hanson Brothers in Slap Shot. In fact, Jeff and Steve played Jeff and Steve Hanson in the movie, and Dave Hanson played Jack Hanson in the movie. Jack would've played himself, but he got called up to the Fight Saints in the WHA. All three of them, along with Dave Hanson played for the Johnstown Jets the year they won the league championship. Ned Dowd, who was also on that team, along with his sister, Nancy, came up with the story idea and Nancy wrote the screenplay. In the movie, Ned Dowd was called Ned Braden, played by Michael Ontkean. But Dowd was also in the movie as Ogie Oglethorpe. There's a book that came out a few years back about the making of Slap Shot and it is a very good read.

Another cool fact about the movie is that Paul Newman said that of all the movies he made, Slap Shot was the one he enjoyed making the most. Considering all the top level Hollywood talent he worked with, it really says a lot that he enjoyed working with mostly regular, down to Earth guys more.

He was half bruised from a fight with Jack. He would have taken both down. Kocur would have been a good one. Was tougher than Probert. Kocur took Probert down when with the Rangers. Detriot when Probert was with Chicago. Secord popped Kocur in a fight. Secord won. close. Probert. He got suspended for trying to knee Secord in the nuts. Built up a team with Jack Carlson. Brad Maxwell. Al Mc Adam. Steve Payne. Had some other tough guys from the merget of the Cleveland Barans. This team became like the St. Paul Fighting Saints. Stood up to Boston. Philadelphia. Toronto. Vancouver. Chicago. Use to be some crazy bench clearing brawls. Those teams where afraid of Jack because of reputation in the WHA. Jack bloodied New Englands Nick Fatio in the WHA . Knocked out Dave Hutchensons teeth in April 7.th 1981 play offs with Chicago. Bloodied Tiger Williams When he was with Toronto. Vancouver. His brothers Steve And Jeff where the Hanson Brothers in the Movie . Slapshot. Dave Hanson had to be the third brother. Because Jacks team. The New England whalers where in the Play offs. I met Jack many times. And when Jack was pissed. he could throw em. Al Secord. Terry O'rielly. Larry Playfair. Clark Gilles. where scared of Jack. Joey Kocur And Bob Probert would have been destroyed. Jack has hands as the size of grapfruit. he pull you in. swing at you. and seen the other player go back a half foot. I know today.
