When I left the PO after 8 years to retire one of the guys that worked for me said he was impressed with the way I taught him the machine and did not look down on him because he didn't know the machine well. These were large complex machines and you needed different skills to work on different areas of the machine. I told him my job was to teach him the ins and outs of the mail sorting machine and I've found the best way was to treat people fairly and build up both their knowledge and confidence. i always learned something from new trainees because they came from different backgrounds so they looked at things from a different point of view.
Different points of view can be a great help when you have convoluted problems, nobody knows it all so it's good to have different mindsets work towards a common goal - get it working as fast as we can so we can get ready for the next machine to fall over.

My oil boiler blew up last year . It was insane !!! My boiler blew thru my wall into my basement! . Plus my basement door blew out and my garage doors blew out as well It cracked my foundation wall also ! Thankgod my wife wasn’t downstairs doing laundry. She could’ve been killed. We had that boiler cleaned every year . My insurance company took the boiler to Kentucky to do an investigation! !!! Luckily we got full coverage from the insurance company but it was negligence on the plumbing company !!! Thankgod everything worked out for the better !!!! All the plumbers that I worked with said they never seen or heard of a oil boiler blowing up like that lol .

So the loose pilot burner connection was permitting an intermittent rollout ignition? Even worse if the leak was causing a rich mixture that delayed ignition of the main burners till the flow had pulled enough air in.

A call to 911 would've probably been appropriate too. Though this didn't look that bad smoke wise inside the structure. Every significant puff-back I've been to has then involved CO readings that were off the chart. Like 800-1000+ ppm. Levels that will kill you in a few minutes. Still well outside LEL but not good nonetheless.

If you don't get a v2 version of the Bova condensor fan motor, it will for sure die again. That is the revised motor via bosch tech support. Buuutttt it carries the same exact part number as the original so only way to know is to look at the tag on the motor. Love the equipment though

It’s like the old HB Smiths. The had aluminized steel burners. Most of the time they looked good. The openings would develop hair line cracks that you couldn’t see right away. They would start out burning fine. After a few minutes, the gas would “flare” then burn at the orifice. They had an unofficial recall in that they would send you a free set of burners if you ordered them, but didn’t reach out as a recall should

@Mikey I ran into this situation years ago with a gas furnace. im not sure what else is in this house, however in the case of the furnace rolling out, it happened whenever the guy turned on the gas to his fireplace or outdoor firepit.. it would even cause the firnace to misfire while it was still lit.. the gas pressure surged Way low.. and if lucky the furnace would shut off... however it would not reignite properly... if tyou slowly turned on the fireplace gas then the firnace would stay lit.. the issue ended up being with his regulator at the meter.. it couldnt react fast enough to changing gas volume.. the first appliance to light did fine, but try to light a second one and the main line pressure would drop to 1-1.5 in WC, enough to misfire the furance.. the fireplace didnt care it woudl recover.. the pressure would come back up after couple seconds.. this guys big 'KaPoof!' moment as he called it came when we surmised a couple burners away from the thermocouple went out.. and then pressure returned.. and when the gas finally made it to the open flame there was quite a bit of build up... (this was an old Janitrol furnace form the late 70s.. no inducer, no flame rod.. just a thermocouple)..... the gas company replaced the regulator and proiblem solved.. took me a little bit to figure that issue out!!

  • @consolidatedplumbingandhea4390

Dumb question, did you test gas pressures on the inlet with "all" gas appliances running. Sometimes the system is overloaded and the issue is intermittent. Also a whole house fan, I have seen them screw things up multiple times. But ya sticking gas valve or a gas valve slowly leaking by that fills the chamber. May not see it during quick cycles but as it warms up and time spreads between ignition may show. some guys say they can check with rising co after a shut down, never worked for me. I have on occasion been able to shut off the gas supply and watch if the pressure drops on the inlet tap but it can be sooooo sensitive with a very slight leak on the tubing to get a false positive on the test.
I got one about three years ago, could not find a thing I checked everything. Found out they were blasting for a new building at the dump about five blocks away and the homeowner thought it had been his boiler.
