Excellent overview 👍I've had the old version of this one for a couple of years and it's been good to me. It looks like they made significant improvements on the new design.😉I'll definitely be picking one of these up ! Thanks for sharing
Just curious. I have the 2 gallon model that is set up a bit differently with the pump on top and just an on/off button. It runs constantly when you turn it on, which is rather annoying. Does this one do the same or does it only run the pump when you pull the trigger?
Fishing weights....that's me...hahaha. Glad they made the update! Still using my old one with the fishing weights. Hopefully they updated the weak plastic on the straps as well. Wow..new one is very quiet. I'm impressed!
The plastic pieces the straps attach to seem to be pretty sturdy. Obviously that could change as it ages, but for now, I'd say they're solid. Thanks for the comment!
Can you disassemble the bottom to see what bit you use to take out the screws and what hose to buy to replace. That little metal ring cut my hose and 8 can't take it apart
Thanks for the video good to know the pressure but my pressure dial wont turn?? Using mine to weeds. Maybe you can show how to change out the nozzels for people like me. Whats the knob on the underside of the spray handel. Thanks again good video
Great video, some of the comments was saying that it wasn't a true 4 gallons where the mark is on the tank. Just wanted to know if you had a chance to put exactly 4 gal of water into the tank If yes was it a exact amount? Thanks
Are you able to use the N-EXT products? My concern will be clogging. I have the Ortho hose sprayer but I want something to walk around with not having to deal with the hose movement
I haven't used the N-EXT line of products with it, but I have used Simple Lawn Solutions Soil Hume, which is along the same lines. The sprayer had zero issues with it mixed at label rate. I added about a gallon and a half of water, then added the Soil Hume, and topped it off with more water to get it mixed in.
That I don't know, just because I haven't tried if for that. However, when I was still doing research, I came across a video on here (the only one I could find of the this model, actually) of a guy using this sprayer for his car. He seemed to be happy with using it for his car.
My guess is that stain would be too thick to run through it. So, it would at best do a poor job, and at worst ruin the unit. Ryobi also gives it a big "no" to that question when it popped up on the HD website.
@@Lenser I watched a couple CZcams videos , and I believe it does . The problem I had was turning the pump on and off when wanting to spray. I didn’t want the pump to keep running constantly. I think the 4 gallon only builds pressure when it gets low with switch in run position which is better. Just not positive.
That's a good question, I didn't think to test that aspect. I'll be doing some spraying of humic acid tomorrow, so once finish that I'll give it a go & respond back to let you know.
So I opened up the stock nozzle to what I felt was probably the best position in terms of stream quality and set the pressure to the max 90. It measured about 26 feet where the spray was still pretty tight. Once past that point it started to break up to scattered droplets relatively quick. Hope that helps!
The manual warns against using powders. My guess is that's due to the possibility of improper mixing, or issues that can arise from combining two incompatible chemicals. That said, part of the reason I bought this was for both Prodiamine and applications of powdered humic/kelp. My plan is to thoroughly premix things like before adding to the sprayer. I don't really see an issue doing something like that.
This thing has potential. I'd have to look at the connector out of the backpack cause I'd try to jerryrig a B&G hose and wand with a 4 way tip. It sounds like it has better pressure than a Birchmeier. And yes, I'm using a Birchmeier with the B&G wand. Thanks for the vid.
Great review. two questions for you., can you remove that filter at the bottom on the inside to clean it? And it looks waterproof compared to last year's model, is it? the reason I ask is I like to do a lot of lawn applications in a sprinkle or a light rain
Glad you enjoyed it. To answer your questions, yes the little filter does pull off for cleaning. As for waterproof, as far as using in a light rain, I'd say you'd be just fine if we're talking about the battery compartment. The cover flap for the battery actually fits over a lip which should prevent water from running into the battery compartment. If water did get in there, the battery sits a bit above the bottom, and with the opening at the bottom of the flap, any water that leaked in there would just run out versus accumulating. In theory it should leave the battery unscathed. That said, if you're talking about the area between the yellow base and the tank, it's two separate pieces and sit pretty flush with each other. However, there's very small gap that appears at a couple of spots. So I'd imagine water could work its way in there. However, given the fact that it's used for liquid, I'd venture a guess it should be able to withstand a sprinkle, or even light rain. Hope that helps
@@bethelawn last summer I got the older model and the pump started vibrating really badly and making loud noises. Luckily I was in the 30-day window and home Depot took it back. I have about 30 tools in the Ryobi line so wanted to get the sprayer. another thing I didn't like about the older model was the battery poked out about 2 or 3 in and I always was bumping something. And also the older model had the regular back strap this one has the chest cross strap which is a big bonus.
I bought this one when it first came out .. use it mostly for Prodamine I have a large yard .. Even tho they changed the tube to the new layout I am constantly ending up with a half cup to a cup still in the tank. Also seems to take awhile to prime when I am refilling .. any input ? Thanks , enjoyed the video there was only one out when I bought it
I had seemed to get left with about a 1/2 a cup, too. My assumption is that it's due to the effect of sloshing around while walking with it on my back. I've found that once I hit that "almost empty" sputtering point, I'll take it off and carry it for the last little bit. I've never managed to get every last drop, but it's close enough to where I'm good with it. As for the priming on the refill, I've not noticed it (or just haven't been thinking about it). Are you priming it by spraying it back into the tank? That way your first pull of the trigger on the lawn will have the product ready at full force.
Roughly 26 feet. However, it would definitely be on the "softer" end of the soft wash with the stock tip. I'm just using it for herbicides/fertilizers, but I'd imagine with an upgraded tip it would be better suited for what you're looking for. Hope that helps, somewhat.
@@bethelawn yeah when we "soft wash" it is when we spray a mixture of sodium hydrochloride (pool shock) and water using low pressure.. Gets the green and black stuff off of siding and roofs.
Hi. Nice review. Does the stock tip comes with the product or I have to look around and buy it? I need the spray to go as far as 26 feet as you have tested it. Thanks
The most I've used it for at any given time is two tankfuls on one spray session. That said, I'm also usually swapping batteries across tools as needed. So I don't have real-world experience with the battery limits strictly based on the use of sprayer. However, according to Ryobi it's supposed to get 10 tanks per charged battery. Thanks for the question, though. I'll be sure to update if I ever run into a situation where it doesn't live up to what Ryobi says it can do.
I got this pos. 6 months later the hose kinked and broke off at the tank. Opened it up to find a pressed fitting. Meaning now it's not a trip to home depot for a part but now I am looking at weeks before I can get a hose assembly. Fuck this sp tr ayer. They make it where you cant adapt something else to the tank connection
Unfortunately, while I don't have an exact number, here's what I do know. I've been using a 2ah battery in it, I have roughly 7500 sqft of lawn, which uses about 2 tanks to cover. The longest I've gone on a single battery was for 4 different blanket application of various products over the course of a few months before I pulled the battery to use in a pinch on another tool. Ryobi says 11 tanks per charge, and those 5 applications would have put me at 8 tanks. So I'd say Ryobi's specs of 11 are a fair number. Hope that helps.
Haven't tested a "true" vertical distance, as I'm just using it for herbicides & liquid fertilizers. However, I did test the horizontal spray with the streaming nozzel and it went around 26 feet.
I read anything I could find on dallisgrass, and based on what is "legal" in California (and not wanting to just kill off everything), I settled on Ornamec 170. I started treatment late this year, according to how the label breaks it down, so it'll probably be an ongoing battle for the year and into next spring. However, based on the first application, I'm optimistic. The Ornamec Over-The-Top has a higher concentration of the active ingredient (Fluazifop), but I figured I'd start with the 170 and see how it went. It's definitely stunted the dallisgrass from growing and there's some browning that's starting to occur here a week later. In the past, normally the dallisgrass will take off after I throw down fertilizer once we hit the 80s, but so far the TTTF is definitely out growing it. To the point where in the couple of areas where it's more clustered, there's a very noticeable lack of height a few days after mowing, when compared with the rest of the lawn. I'll likely end up putting together a couple of videos documenting the battle.
@@bethelawn thank you I’m going to attempt using the same methods. TruGreen was horrible at getting rid of it so I feel like I’ll have better results if I just DIY it...
@@jeronedwards6590 Yeah, based on what I've researched the only quick method is glyphosate. Where other methods are a prolonged treatment. I put that together from two separate sources. The product page at Ryobi lists it as 60psi, and the manual says "up to 90 psi". So I basically made the assumption that it was a 60 to 90 range for it. Not having a guage, and just based on the eye test between the Min/Max sprays I'd say that's probably a safe bet.
@@michaell5655 I know for sure the top end is 90psi, as that right from the manual. Of everything else I've seen online (product page, etc), the only other psi number associated with it is 60, which was also the psi of the previous model (which wasn't adjustable). I also considered that since the low setting was just under a minute to hit 32oz and the high took just under 40 seconds, 60psi would seem to check out with "cocktail napkin" math. That said, unfortunately I'm not 100% certain that's the minimum.
Yes, but there are a couple of things to consider here. First, there would need to be a string of multiple failure points for liquid to get into the battery. Second, you'd need a decent amount of liquid to compromise the battery. With respect to this sprayer, it would likely take a very specific set of breakdowns in order to cause any real issue. At which point the whole thing would be toast, anyhow.
