  • Upgrading your backpack sprayer nozzle is an inexpensive way to greatly improve the performance of fertilizer, herbicides and other products. In this video, we explain how to choose the right sprayer nozzle based on the product you're applying. We also demonstrate how to swap your existing nozzle for an upgraded model. There are a few tips and tricks that are important so we go over them in detail. The nozzles we recommend and use are from TeeJet.
    If your sprayer has a quick-connecting fitting on the wand, you'll need an adapter which is available below.

    Don't forget that the Teejet nozzles come in different colors for different flow rates. I find that the *red* nozzles put out almost 2 gal per 1000sqft at my comfortable walk pace, instead of increasing my pace considerably, I switched to a yellow nozzle with the same spray pattern which gives about half the flow rate and comes out much closer to 1 gal per 1000sqft.

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  Před 2 lety +3

      It just depends on your walking pace and the pressure of your sprayer. The red TeeJet nozzles at 70 psi, put out fluid at much lower rates than the nozzles the sprayer comes with. Great feedback sir. Appreciate you chiming in.

    • @mrcaffein
      @mrcaffein Před 2 lety +2

      If you have a manual pump up sprayer, a constant flow valve is a great investment as well for about 20$. It keeps the pressure regulated so you're always spraying at the same pressure, thus making your application more consistent. It will shut off once the pressure drops below the valve psi rating. Electric sprayers typically spray at a constant pressure so this is more useful for pump up sprayers.

Either spray tip can work well. The XR11004VS is best for foliar apps but if you're spraying in conditions with a bit of wind, go with the AIXR11004VP. You'll need to use a surfactant with them. Looking at the wand on my Chapin, I don't believe this would be easy to do. If you're going to try this, it would be easiest to swap the entire trigger and wand. I'm not sure where you'd even get one. Likely easier to just buy a sprayer that already has the quick connect system.

      @@RonHenry Great video, Ron! Like others wrote, you present the facts without any fluff.
      I upgraded my Solo Comfort 475 manual backpack sprayer so I could use the TeeJet tips, specifically with the quick connect cap, and get rid of the bendy plastic wand. As you suggested, using the quick connect cap requires a new setup, but I am glad I did this. The plastic wand that came with the sprayer is now in the recycling bin, and I can easily change the TeeJet tips as required for the product I'm spraying.
      TeeJet offers many versions of the quick connect caps, but I recommend the 114445A series because these have a round hole for the tip. The other versions have shaped holes for the tips that lock them into place and they cannot be rotated to adjust the spray pattern.

    Great video, thanks so much for the information. I'm looking into buying the Ryobi 4 gallon backpack sprayer( model #2826 I think);would that Teejet work with that type of sprayer also I'm wanting to kill off a lot of the grassy weeds, in the next couple of days before I reseed my lawn I'll be using tenacity and speed zone, would this type of pesticide clog up the Teejet sprayer since the Teejet spays so fine, if so which one do you recommend? Thanks

      I'm not sure if the tips can be swapped into the Ryobi sprayer Eric. It's swappable into most sprayers so it should be ok. I've just never tested it to be able to say for sure. There's no issue with spraying Tenacity and Speedzone through either tip. Hope this helps.

    Why can’t all DIY videos be this concise? I don’t care what your dog swallowed or what your wife was up to a week ago just keep it simple and get to the point like he did.
