- When Jochen Zeitz took over as CEO of Harley-Davidson in March of 2020, he needed to address some immediate challenges-namely, shrinking margins and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic-while answering one of the biggest questions of his career: How do you preserve the authenticity of an iconic brand while simultaneously reinventing it?
In the latest episode of Exceptional Leaders / Exceptional Ideas, Adam Jonas, Head of Global Auto & Shared Mobility Research, talks with Zeitz about how he’s steering Harley-Davidson into a new era of profitability while staying true to what made the beloved brand a success in the first place.

Jochen Zeitz has single-handedly ruined Harley Davidson. Whilst Indian, Triumph and Royal Enfield are all listening to their customers and constantly refining and improving; Harley is just bumping the prices up to cover ever-increasing warranty claims rather than addressing (poor) quality issues at the factory.
They've lost sight of their values and rider focus by cheapening manufacturing in order to boost profits whilst still pushing the "it's a Harley, it's the best" narrative. If they don't up their game then they'll be lost to the dust of their competitors.
Well done, Jochen. Just like you cheapened Puma, you've managed to do the same to Harley Davidson.

He never lied about who he is, though. He is as advertised. Blane the board. Blame the team that hired him. They are probably still making mistakes as of today because no one knows their names and no one can hold THEM accountable for pissing on their customer's faces while telling the customers to shut up and smile you racists!

Just listening to this interview, I do not trust this guy. I think he is a phony. Unfortunately, one of the features of the brand is authenticity and honesty, and he has neither. Typical Continental attitude.

It's really bad how the CEO of Harley-Davidson, Jochen Zeitz, has been arbitrarily shutting down many dealers like this worldwide. This ruins such a great brand and legacy that Harley-Davidson holds. Now, Harley-Davidson sells less motorcycles, the profitable issue is not certain, its electric bikes are a failure and its stock price is stagnant.

This aged like milk. They need to fire the team who hired him. This guy (ceo) at the very least is who he says he is. I might disagree with him, but he didn't lie to anyone. BUT, can you say this about the board? Can you say this about the recruitment team? No - they started the video highlighting how Harley is a great company because of its history - its EARNED history. So did they hire a ceo to lean into this history? No, they were cowards, and I doubt any of them lost their seats or positions.
This brand should go forward. They have to stop pandering to a demographic that’s never going to change or buy more bikes. Harley can reinvent itself now and if necessary do a revival in the future. They can bring back the “core” elements and bikes that made them legendary but if they don’t adapt to survive NOW there will be no Harley in 50yrs.
Try 10 yrs.

What? If they come to a Harley Dealer, they are looking for a Harley, not a Yamaha, or a Honda.

What I hate about Harley is when you buy one of their bikes it's like you're joining a cult. He talks about individuality, but in fact just look at HD shops or meet ups and it's like they're all part of a tribe. I dislike that concept and I dislike even more the look and feel of that particular tribe. It's also not that appealing to the younger demographic.
This is Harleys #1 problem-the baggage of the customer culture perception. I own two motorcycles and would struggle to own a Harley. Indian and Triumph would be my choice for that type of bike.
