  • Did Harley-Davidson really get humiliated at the 84th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally with accusations of the motorcycle manufacturer and its CEO going “woke”? We respond to a video put out by the Quartering and show you an actual representation of how many people are visiting the Harley-Davidson booth in Sturgis and for comparison we also go walk down Lazelle Street in Sturgis to see what is happening in the Indian booth and the Budweiser tent after the massive Budweiser Biker Boycott we saw last year. Enjoy this inside, factual report on what’s really happening with Harley Davidson in Sturgis and if the company did truly get humiliated. #sturgismotorcyclerally #sturgis #harley #harleydavidson #harleydavidsonbikes #harleydavidson

I'm impressed by Harley Davidson's clever but simple marketing. Since its inception, Harley Davidson has marketed an image that targets the insecurities and vulnerabilities of some men by presenting a product that gives those men the illusion of personal power, strength, toughness, coolness, masculinity, virility, and rebellion. These are primal traits that some men want more of, and Harley Davidson knows how to provide illusions that convince those men to buy Harley Davidson products. Loud pipes, black leather, chains, "interesting" costumes and accessories, tattoos, boots, beards, and beer don't embody greater power, but they give some men the hallucination of it. You will read what real power is later in this post.
Harley riders are rolling advertisements to the men whom Harley Davidson marketers want to target, and those marketers have engineered this brilliantly, as explained below.
Some Harley riders might believe that the riders, themselves, created the lifestyle, the attitude, and the identity that make up the image, but the image was actually engineered by Harley Davidson, the company that sells the products. Want someone to fall for an idea? Then make them think they came up with the idea themselves. Any sense of individuality or rebellion that Harley riders have is actually conformance to Harley Davidson's marketing plan. Harley Davidson has put its customers exactly where they want them.
Riders reactions to Harley products and the engineered image and are what Harley Davidson wants to know, because the marketing team plays off of those reactions to adapt their marketing strategy. "Go Woke, Go Broke?" Remember, Harley Davidson isn't a person, even though the business might have been named after real people. It's a company, and executives at Harley won't be harmed if Harley goes broke. Not only have they already banked their salaries and bonuses, they'll just move to another company. Their success (yes, success) with Harley will still stand in their favor. When a company goes broke, it doesn't mean the executives lose their shirts.
When a single person, a board of directors, or other C-suite executives at a company can elicit such a dramatic response from thousands of customers via a decision, action, or other flick of a pen, that's not only success, that's power. When they can cause an uproar without breaking a sweat, that's power. Whom do they have power over? The followers.
Genuine strength, power, and identity aren't dependent on an external business or product, and genuine strength, power, and identity stand independently on their own and don't need to be displayed for validation.
Have you figured out yet who is really being played here, guys?

Harley is American Made? American ASSEMBLED maybe, but even that's changing. The majority of parts are NOT made in America anymore, and basically NONE of the accessories nor clothes are and haven't been for AGES.
At any rate, it's pretty effing STUPID to piss off your core customer base in the name of all of this woke crap, regardless of what Blackrock and Fidelity push on them. It's almost as if the Board WANTS the company to tank. They are probably holding a lot of short shares.

@@johnh8197 I agree that many companies do this. The difference between the companies, however, is the degree to which they do it. And the difference between men is the degree to which each man falls for it. It stands to reason that the more insecure and needy the man, the more attracted he will be to the image that is advertised to him. A man who is represented by who he is rather than by an illusion or image of himself is a powerful man, because an illusion or image is not only artificial, it's weak. A powerful man is independent of props, façades, and groups. Some men are attracted to an image such that the image becomes a significant part of his identity, and such men can lose the ability to clearly distinguish between the image and himself. This is what Harley Davidson is counting on.
Because the image has become his identity, abandoning the image becomes a kind of death, and there's no better way to control a man than by fear of death (and not letting him realize that you're controlling him). Just look at how threatened some men have been by Harley Davidson's recent proposed actions and decisions, yet these men don't realize the real reason why they feel so threatened. I tell ya, it's an absolutely brilliant marketing strategy.

This is what Harley Davidson counts on.
And because the image has become his identity, abandoning the image becomes a kind of death for him, and there's no better way to control a man than by fear of death (and by not letting him realize that you're controlling him).
The degree to which some men have reacted to Harley Davidson's recent proposed actions and decisions reveals the degree to which these men have felt threatened, yet these men don't realize the real reason why they feel threatened.
I tell ya, Harley Davidson's marketing tactics are absolutely brilliant.

I am by no means affiliated with any one brand and I do have my own motorcycle shop it really amazes me how young some of our customers are and who are riding Harleys. They probably can't afford to go to Sturgis, it is expensive to get there but give them a few years when they are more solid plus if you watch other videos you will see a lot of young people there riding Harleys. I am not trying to pick a fight here, just telling what I see from trying to make a living working on motorcycles. I will say in general our business has been falling off the past few years, I am sure some of it is the economy and some of it is people aren't riding like they were even 5 years ago. Let's all work to make motorcycles great again.

The problem is I am not going to $30,000.00 plus for a bike that cost Harley about $7500.00 - 8000.00 to produce. Mass production, mass production create lower prices. This bikes are built on a assembly line just like cars. Wake up people!!!! Prices will drop if they sit on the show room floors for 6 months or more! The problem is, everyone has to work together. Let them Rot on the show room floor!

Growing up being raised by a Boomer father riding motorcycles, he always told me, that motorcycle riding embodied the values of this country. From our outlaw beginnings as a bunch of colonies under British rule, to our quest for Freedom and Independence. Our thirst for risk-taking, and living your life as an individual, as opposed to a collectivist mindset, is what sets this country apart from every other country on Earth. Something a CEO from Germany would never understand.
Corporate "global" brands try to appeal to the masses. Harley-Davidson should be looked at as a platform to ride on now, and nothing else. If the motorcycle embodies the individual spirit of the rider, I would modify a Harley bike to the point where its unrecognizable. So I guess the only thing you are buying now, is a very expensive bike frame.

  • @joeguzman3558

The real question is, would the new generation of motorcycle enthusiasts want to afford to pay 40k for a new bike ?? And if Harley Davidson goes to electric bike, what's the point of buying a Harley when you can buy an electric bike for much less money?? Up until now, buying a new Harley was for sport like an expensive toy, but if you have to choose between a car or truck for transportation and the price is 50k how many people would chose a bike ?? With today's economy and stupid people running the nation it's going to take a miracle to get things back to normal.
