- Another of Abie Rottenbergs well known songs comes to life in this hilarious portrayal of the trio, whose lives profoundly changed on their way to the Atheist Convention in LA. Enjoy this part of the tantalizing spread on Oorah's popular "Shmorg" DVD. For more clips, visit www.oorah.org/auction/2009/cd-video.html.
I'm an atheist and I still love this song.
i love this video like crazy my rabbi showed it to me!!
This is why I’m going off the derech
Fabulous
Love the song.
A Christian, an Arab and a Jew walk onto a plane
I love this song ! :-) :-) :-)
Worst song ever
LOL the Arab guy is my father-in-law he's actually Jewis
@newport620 listen to the song again. you missed themessage.
cute song
Does anyone have the sheet music?
@FVAnon Do you consider any song/video/book that advocates a point of view brainwashing? Or is it only "brainwashing" if you disagree with it?
The spelling is "Atheist."
Why would Oorah give recognition to religions other than Judaism?
They aren't
It's like vegans or pretty much all religious people. If you think you are right, you want to tell the world. Just like you clearly love to debate it online. Why not? Debate is educational. It promotes logical discourse over one-sided smug speeches. It's one of the best ways to gain insight in my opinion.
He did reveal Himself at Sinai to over 3 million witnesses. He reveals himself in nature He reveals himself through amazingly accurate bible phrophecy. He reveals Himself through the impossible survival of the Jewish people against all odds. He reveals Himself through torah codes that are a thousand tiomes more accurate. then nostradamus one can not complain that when he turns out the lights he can't see. G-D is seen by being percieved ,not by any physical manifestation.
there are thousands of cases that are recorded of out of body experiances. I myself had one at 6 years of age. there are many cases documenting these phenomena. there are also documented cases of reincarnation. the evidence seems to indicate that the end of the cycle is not nothingness. the out of body expereriances prove that nirvana is not the end of conciousness rather when the cycle ends there is an erternal afterlife and the soul is re absorbed in the conciousness of G-D
Thousands also claim to have seen the Loch Ness Monster, a chupacapra, or Bigfoot; to have been abducted and probed by aliens. I asked for reputable sources and for actual hard evidence. I'm still waiting for even an iota of either of that.
We not "once primates", we ARE primates. Oorah 2674 MSgt USMC here.
ppl relax its just a song
We will all die sooner or later.
since whern do Jews believe in the easter bunny or satan clause? G-d is more real then matter just coming out of nothing.
No, that is not revealing. That is belief based on things which you choose to interpret in order to strengthen belief. If you wish to look to the stars and think they are sending you messages because of lets say their formation, that is your belief. Since god as you believe is all powerful, and has a message for us, surely if he existed he would reveal himself. Surely no intelligent god would test people based on whether they believe some tradition that he exists.
First heard this at a Jewish wedding and this song is not anti religious at all
WOW GOD THANK YOU FROM SAVING US FROM THAT INSANE GOD WHO SAVED US FROM THAT INSANE GOD
@ukchristian28 What are you talking about that we deserve only G-d's condemnation and wrath? Many of us do but not all of us (well I do) but we are all also deserving (or most of us) of G-d's love. G-d chooses who dies and lives. The point of this song, as you said, was that the men were really hiding their true intent. A serial killer once said that in the end, "they all prayed, even the atheists". He thought it was funny. When I saw the interview, I didn't.
one specific religion Islam flys into buildings . other religions do not . one of the astronauts I think it was John Glenn remarked that the awe of what he had witnessed in outer space strenthened his belief in a creator. Truly the heavens declare the glory of G-D and the earthh HIS handiwork (psalm 119)
Some will say G_d is Nature and Nature is G_d. Nothing more. So the Earth may declare the glory of G-D, but what is G-D?
I don't know what sort of atheist would suddenly turn religious upon experiencing a statistical coincide. Definitely not the sort that I am. so the religious loose their faith when a tragedy does happen?
(ironically, I first heard this song on Journeys when I was still frum, and at the time I was fine with it.)
'boruch hashem' you found your way.
It seems to be based on the premise of "there's no atheist in a foxhole"
haaa
and by the way, I am dorry to brake it to you guys, but we are primates, and The Big Bang is indeed not a "theory", but a fact.
I'm sorry to break it to you, but you need help with your spelling.
PART B just as there are pedophiles wearing the cloak of religion so there are among those who wear the ciostume of religion people who really don't believe, but rather then leaving the society they hide their non belief becauuse this is the only society they know A true believer suffering from this evil sickness will seek help and will not hurt another human being to satiate his lusts. in addition there are organizations in the community working with the police to stop this scourge.
"Psychologists from Edinburgh University and the Medical Research Council in Cambridge... say phenomena such as out-of-body experiences or encounters with dead relatives are tricks of the mind rather than a glimpse of the afterlife. One of the researchers, Dr Caroline Watt, said: "Our brains are very good at fooling us." The researchers say that many common near-death experiences could be caused by the brain's attempt to make sense of unusual sensations and perceptions occurring during a[cont'd]
yep...you proved it, shame all those scientists are so foolish and don't want to listen to you. lol
Oy vey. Out of body experiences can be explained very simply. It's like getting high on psychedelic drugs. You see, you feel, it's a very "spiritual" experience... and it's all your brain reacting to a stimulant. As for reincarnation, I'd like to see one convincing, fact-based study using the scientific method that proves this narishkeit.
Oh my goodness can y'all calm down
This is a Jewish song so if you don't like it don't listen to it.
No one said this was a real story so stop dissecting probabilities.
It wasn't made for non-Jews in the first place
sounds like a nice fairy tale... sorry not in real life...
I love how bristled some can get from a cute song that's neither here nor there. I found the comment here as entertaining as the video. And as thought provoking too...
I heard this song back in1993.
I love this song, and the video really adds to it!!
This was a sweet song
He did at sinai to 3 million people or more. this revelation is provable by the fact that Moses spoke to the entire nation in the second person plural. lets see you prove to me that I and millions of others who were with me at that time witnessed pink elephants falling from the sky.
I'm a former reform Jew turned Orthodox . I have explained to my christian frioends why we Jews will never worship a man like they do and that we Jews are connected to G-D I also have friends who are atheiets as well as ones who i argue with on line who are stymied by my ability to prove thsat evolution is impossible. e4volution can only answer questions dealing with phys.matter. they can't explain things like color or wavelenths of sound and light etc. this video is ideal for them
Classic!
I've never seen such a long, well produced straw-man.......theist are funny, even when they don't mean to be.
Haha I love how the message is "Its alright to be Jewish, Muslim, and Christian, but its not right to be an atheist". What a great message for kids. Brainwashing approved!
the song is a fantasy but it shows that religion can be entertaining and taught with a sense oof humor. there are much better proofs that G-d exists and is real then being saved from an airplane crash
my sentiments exactly. also smell taste music emotion conciousness itself can not be explained by evolution since only matter evoles and as we know matter itself cant advance very much because all matter disintegrates before it can evolve from such a low life form to such a high one
you continue to ignore the fact that G-d does reveal Himself every day. but those who want to justify their faith that existance can come from non existance put a blindfold over their eyes so that they don't have to see what they refuse to see. iot is you my friend that must have blind faioth. my faithh is confirmed by the fact that I even exist let alone the wonders of the woprld that neither science or evolution can exlain. truly the fool has said in his heart there is no G-D
au contrair me dear. every thing in science that contradicts the torah either winds up being disproven or is relegated to being a theory while many things that can be proven by science already existed in the torah long before science discvovered it.i.e. the talmud says that the pliedes contain at least 100 stars where as only 6-8 are visable to the naked eye the bible say the earth is spherical long before coprenicus or galileo. there are many more examples.
very funny video,
[cont'd] awareness. The "tunnel of light" sensation reported by those who believe they are having a near-death experience can also be artificially induced. Pilots flying at G-force can sometimes experience "hypertensive syncope" which causes tunnel-like peripheral or even central visual loss for up to eight seconds. And a US study suggested the light at the end of the tunnel can be explained by poor blood and oxygen supply to the eye. The feelings of bliss and euphoria, meanwhile, can be [cont'd]
oh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that explains it! thanks
I believe everything I have just seen.
Good Day.
wonder what the planes that do crash mean to the people on them.
[cont'd] recreated with drugs such as ketamine and amphetamine. The paper also suggests the action of noradrenaline, a hormone released by the mid-brain, can evoke positive emotions, hallucinations and other features of the near-death experience. Writing in the journal Trends in Cognitive Science, the researchers say: "Taken together, the scientific experience suggests that all aspects of near-death experience have a neuro-physiological or psychological basis."
because what may be known about God is manifest among them, for God made it manifest to them. For his invisible [qualities] are clearly seen from the world's creation onward, because they are perceived by the things made, even his eternal power and Godship, so that they are inexcusable; (Romans 1:19-20)
there are many things that scientists don't understand like dark matter & energy, they can't see it, but they know it's there, and dark matter and energy make up most of the universe. What's amazing is how the universe is being pulled apart yet it is still very intact. Yes, we don't see G-d, but we can still feel G-d when we pray meaningfully etc. Plus, there are many open miracles that show G-d, we just need to notice
Spacetime isn’t being pulled apart it’s growing. Unless your talking about the matter within spacetime which is being held together by gravity, which yeah gravity is pretty amazing.
This was pretty creative but the end echoes a trend of featuring the three major religions of Catholicism, Islam and Judaism, excluding the faith of Jesus.
what can't be explained is that after all brain and heart fuintiopn cease when the patient is miraculously revived he reveals floating above his body and hearing every word that the doctors said while he was lying dead on the table. further more in every corner of the world whether children or adults describe these experiances the same way. the acceleration, the tunnel, and the all embracing light and the meeting of loved ones and being told top return, itsd not your time
the answer to John Lennons song" imagine"
There is a condition called "Cotard" - or "walking corpse" syndrome, where a person believes they are dead. It has been seen following trauma and during the advanced stages of typhoid and multiple sclerosis. Out-of-body experiences, where people feel they are floating above themselves, are also commonly reported. But Swiss researchers found such experiences could be artificially induced by stimulating the right temporoparietal junction in the brain that plays a role in perception and [cont'd]
@edi9540 What about all the other planes that DO crash? The fact that the plane in this story did not crash is not proof that G-d exists. Who do you think sent the turbulence in the first place? G-d is infinite, and He loves us. He only does what is in our best interest. He sends us beautiful flowers every spring, displays breathtaking sunrises every morning, and gives our hearts strength to beat every moment of the day. How does an atheist explain that away? Is it all an "accident"?
From their point of view, yes. I think the human mind naturally recoils from that perspective.
But I agree with you.
lol
Not pictured: The Buddhist, who has made peace with his (hey, yeah, where were the women in this video?) mortality and accepts death as a part of life.
We are primates and the big bang is a scientific theory just for starters.
After "religious dogma will come under fierce attack", what does it say? I can never make it out
That we all once were primates is our motto
Don't get calluses pattin' yourself on the back, Sparky. Science also flattened Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
He did reveal Himself to over 3 million witnesses. He reveals Himself in the amazing codes of the torah. He reveals Himself in nature HE reveals HIMSELF IN NATURE. he reveals Himself after miraculous cures when doctors said there is no hope. HE reveals look up on you tube miracles performed during Israels wars and you will see that HE is real
You realize that this is some analogy or straw man argument.
1) I never heard of an engine suddenly recovering outside a Hollywood movie, and Hollywood has no qualms about fudging facts for the sake of a story.
2) Do you really think a group of atheists that were so committed to their idealogy that would shell out several thousand dollars to go to a convention would be swayed airplane problems?
3) When people are panicked and dying they often cry out for help. In fact cries for "mommy" are far more common than god when someone is close to dying. Does this mean that these people sincerely believe that mommy is going to save them with her matronly super powers? No, it means they are desperate and grasping at straws.
4) If this event was truely miraclous as a Damascus Road visitation (everything about the near crash was obviously contrary to physical laws of motion, gravity, and flight), the rapid conversion of the atheists makes sense. But that makes your video a ridiculous tool to covert the audience. The simple fact is that most atheists would convert if they got a Damascus Road visitation. They are not beholden to the idea there is no God, they want more proof before they will believe.
👍
This video is an enactment of a song which was meant to be cute not something that actually happened, I don't think it was intended for you to look into it that much.
its hard for you to believe but not hard for me to believe so who are yopu trying to convince? and please clarify how these chapters in genesis contradict each other. there is much in the creation story that shows an advanced kinowdge that isconfirmed by science that out side of the torah was unknown to even the highly intel.Geeks.go to the website true torah codes. also look up those who reject the codes, If you are enjoying this game of chess as much as I am then the fun is just beginning
@FVAnon its just showing that most pple believe in G-d deep down... not brainwashing
@MordechaiKestecher Well, it is a strawman argument regardless. The way I see it, most people will go back to whatever they were taught was true their whole lives. Such thinking is conditioned purely by social and geographic circumstances, and has nothing to do at all with an account for belief in a specific deity.
Ei: Someone born to a Hindu family with a Hindu upbringing would defer to their deity, Similarly, somebody brought up in secular circumstances would not defer to any deity at all,
Let me address your "agnostic" argument. Ever studied greek or roman mythology? Are you agnostic toward Zeus? The Egyptian Sun God? How about Santa Claus? Does it also not make intellectual sense to say that the Tooth Fairy does not exist? Because if so, then I concede. I am agnostic. I am exactly as agnostic towards your religion as you are towards the Easter Bunny.
This video made me an atheist
how?
+Izzy Posen it was a joke lol
@Izzy I would assume because your reaction in a life threatening situation is the least rational a person can be expected to be. So living your life based on a knee jerk reaction when you are in peril and the animal flight or fight part of your brain is working is inherently absurd. Atheism is for people who are thinking clearly. God is for people who are fearful or otherwise cloudy headed.
+Kernel Sanders good point. I wonder whether it is true though that "no atheists in fig hole".
+Izzy Posen fox *
Also, two things:
1) We are all primates. We're also mammals. Who, exactly, is disputing this? Does Abie Rotenberg think we're lizards?
2) The theory of gravity is also a theory that people accept as a fact. Unless, of course, you have a better explanation. ("Gravity isn't holding us down, God is!")
Fun video and great music. It is also a great example of projection. The notion that there are no atheists in foxholes is from the theists, not the atheists. It is also a fallacy. Trust the atheist; you have no reason not too.
[cont'd] traumatic event. Dr Watt, of the University of Edinburgh, said: "Some of the studies we examined show that many of the people experiencing a near-death experience were not actually in danger of dying, although most thought they were. "The scientific evidence suggests that all aspects of the near-death experience have a biological basis."
there is no truth to what you say just because you say so and think that you are somehow more intelligent then the rest of us. you are as arrogant and self decieving as the christian missionaries. when you or they can't prove anything, they just consider the rest of us too dumb to understand your whart you think is superiopr reasoning. you do by the way believe in a god. every time you look in the mirror there is the all knowing all wise intelligent being staring back at you,so you think
according to you but not according to me and billions of others. So it seemes that you are real;ly trying to convince yourself because deep down you really are not convinced . you see with out a creator the pieces of the puzzle just don't fit and that must perplex you greatly
you have the wrong religion. Judaism is not Islam. how ever atheiests can murder and enslave millions. didn't you ever hear of stalin. he wasn't on opium at the time.
but atheiests need faith too except that their faith has no rational basis. things that can't be exoplained scientifically to back up the atheiests belief are just that. things that can't be explained scientifically are things that have no explanation and that requires a reat deal of faith on the part of the atheiest since with no scientific explanation he has no back-up
But they survived and the died simultaneously. Because simultaneously their contradictory faiths were true, so it was proved that A and ~A are both true so there is no truth.
(cont'd) The unidentified sound outside your door at night is probably not a burglar, but if you've been trained all your life to suspect a burglary, you're probably going to look for a way to hide or defend yourself just in case. But is "just in case" really enough reason to live your whole life contradicting your beliefs and answering those nagging questions with "you have to have faith"?
All of that is explained by physics, aka the study of matter and its motion through space and time.
The only reason athiests and religious people are at a stalemate is because while you can't prove God was necessary for the evolutionary process, you also can't prove that he/she/it isn't somehow responsible for science following the laws it does. And so the endless, pointless debate continues.
The thing is, humans are primates. We're also mammals. That isn't the slightest bit debatable. So if that really is the motto of the atheists (it's not), then they're right.
Fvvd
Only someone who believes in miracles would still fly United. But seriously your kars for kids radio ads are very deceptive. Not surprising considering that your whole job is based on deception.
LOL. This was posted on Metafilter, but the mods got pissy and deleted it. Seems some atheists have no sense of humor.
and that is why I can't understand the atheiests that try to propagate atheism. what are they trying to prove. are they trying to prove to themselves that they are right. no G-d commanded them to be fishers of men. Jews however don't try and convert others. those Jews who do whats know as kiruv feel that their father in heaven wants them to reach out and bring back those of His children who have strayed from Him. It is motivated by love. on the other hand why be bothered by what I believe/
Also, how is a plane not going down a miracle? That happens every day, all over the world. To credit God for "miracles" is to assume that he only controls some things in the world, and those things are "miraculous." And if you say, "Everything's a miracle," I suppose you're including genocide, rape, murder, poverty, slavery... Those are just as much God's work as all the lovely things people credit him with. You think how Y survived a Z was a miracle? How do you think the others died?
I am not talking about the pedophiles themselves. Every community has criminals. But the cover-ups are done by sane, healthy, esteemed religious people who are more concerned about the reputation of the community than keeping people safe. Show me one example of a community of athiests, including prominent members, covering up another athiest's rapes. Please. Take all the time you need.
people always want to have hope. some people are strong enough not to believe in false hopes. When a plane is crashing that becomes a bit harder to stay honest with oneself. This though does not in any way prove god. I don't see any point in going to an atheist convention. Probably as boring as an Agudah convention. Face the facts religious people have never been able to offer any decent proof that there is a god. If there was a god, he would have revealed himself to us long ago.
Truth is there is no convincing reason whatsoever to believe in a god.
you can interpret anything as proof that atheists or theists are either correct or incorrect
@edi9540 you shmuck it's not a real story it's a pathetic parody on atheism, just like thinking from now on everyone that dies in a planecrash is a result of his holy hypotheticalness not thinking their worthy,,there is no devil and there is no god like it or not.:-)..sleep well
A truly disgusting and bigoted sentiment. Would expect nothing less, I suppose.
