When life is too hard, I go to this concerto with Valentina at the piano. Some people are very rude and impolite. And listening to this beauty, makes me happy again. Thank you Valentina, the conductor and the orchestra as well as the composer Addinsell.

There is something about Valentina that really sets her apart for the other pianists! She has a certain spirit about her that makes her more special more a regular human than a super uptight looking pianist. You can see she really enjoys the music and it almost looks like it just flows through her. Her performance is really something on its own level!!

i wasn't allowed to play this at my absolutorium (a graduation concert) at the prague music conservatory, they said it's too "saloon-like". A few decades later, my blood still boils when I think of that. Sure, it's a laid back piece, but so beautifully composed, to this day I always turn up the radio when they play it!

Being written as a film score, the work was shunned by the word of classical music for many years. It was only put together as a single movement after the film became popular on account of it's music. It was mainly played on piers and village halls at first, until it was revived in the 60's due to the popularity of radio, sitting on the borders between classical and popular music.
In the film it was not played in it's entirety and was faded in and out to make way for the dialog. Some sections were repeated in line with the story.

This is an incredible rendition of a fantastic piece of music. I have listened to it several times over the past 24 hours. Thank you for this, I cannot tell you how much I love listening to your music.

Few people realize that Google advertising is regional, with more than 100 regions in the UK alone. Along with choosing countries and regions, advertisers specify what type of video they want their adverts attached to. The whole operation is controlled by one of the worlds most complex computer programmes and no humans are involved. It is estimated the doing the job by hand, would take more than a million staff, half of them sorting out the advertising in India. 😊

One has to reluctantly accept this, but it is going beyond a boundary when music is interrupted before finishing to insert advertising. That is just beyond the pale, and utterly to be condemned.
Evem looking at it from the self-interested point of view of advertisers or of CZcams, it is very bad anyway. Listeners are going to be extremely irritated by having their listening interrupted so rudely, and won't be paying attention to the advertising anyway. More likely they are swearing under their breath or out loud, depending on the situation. This cannot work in the advertisers' favour: you are not likely to attract customers by pissing them off!

Each note is a million tears shed by the Polish people as their country and lives were decimated by the Nazi and Russian Communist onslaughts. Warsaw burned with such ferocity that pilots in aircraft more than 100 miles away could see it burning. I have shed tears at this concerto many times over the years......it pulls at my very soul. It embodies the human heart's longing for peace and freedom. It is as relevant today as it was in 1941. Freedom is under attack, now as it was then.

The Director of the film wanted Rachmaninoff to compose the incidental music but, from the accounts I've heard, refused the commission apparently because he thought the work beneath him, so Richard Addinsell was drafted in instead.
When the film was released there were no plans to release the music on record until so many people went to their local record shop asking for "that Warsaw Concerto from Dangerous Moonlight" that it was obviously going to be a hit!

Rachmaninoff was commissioned to write the score for the film 'Dangerous Moonlight', broadly based on his second piano concerto.
After a lot of deliberation, he refused and Richard Addinsell scored the film at short notice.
At the time, their was no intention to use the work outside the film, but it became so popular that it was published as a single movement concerto.
For many years, being a film score, it was shunned by classical orchestras. It was only in more recent years that they have now accepted it as a classical work.

Fantastic. And I’m so impressed that they added a landline phone option to the Steinway & Sons Grand. I presume she would have ignored it if it had rung. Then again she probably could have answered it as well, such is her talent.
