  • In this video we explore and detect the remnants of an ephemeral 1870s mining camp, occupied by both Chinese and Western miners. They were a hardy bunch living and working in these extremely remote conditions in an unforgiving climate. We pick up a few nice relics such as Chinese Cash Coins, and personal items left behind by the miners. We hope you enjoy this remote bush adventure - thanks for watching and subscribing and Happy Fossicking! Warren and Colleen.

I had a creek handy to my house that had a lot of gold in it. After a while of digging it got far to hot and humid, so I had a waterhole under a tea tree that I just used to lay in, Great way to cool down. Only one day an eastern brown wanted to share with me. It was amazing how I went from a prone position to a vertical one quite a distance away from where I had been.

mining camps, love them. Opium tins were plentiful and crumbly. Those cash coins were all over and sometimes thrown in the gardens of the Chinese if the soil lacked copper. Poor metal was used in them hence the disintegration. Chinese were not settlers they came to rip the gold out of the country and go home rich. Very few settled here or had a desire to do so.

Thanks for commenting - the Chinese market gardeners used to hang coins in the crops too - for good luck and fortune I assume - always a good find in the old camps - Happy Fossicking! Warren.
