    I did a little online research after reading your comment about Joe DiMaggio and the roses for Marilyn Monroe's grave. It's true that Joe DiMaggio stopped delivering the roses in 1982. He stopped delivering them for a couple of reasons. The main reason is that they were being stolen. The second reason had to do with the cost. The cost to deliver roses twice a week in 1962 was around $200 a month.. By 1982 it was well over $1,000 a month. The older he got the more thrifty he was with his money.

    Great comments about funeral etiquette. When my father died in June 1983, I was very angry at the way his funeral was handled. He was a veteran of the Korean war and he wanted to be buried in his uniform which he had kept in good condition. For some reason it didn't happen. He had an open casket ceremony and I was appalled at the clothes they dressed him in. They dressed him almost like a clown in a bright yellow tie and mismatched clothes. I took the tie off him.

    I was there last October. I saw the graves of Eva Gabor, Merv Griffin, and Eddie Albert; plus some other celebrity graves as well. I'm a big Green Acres fan, and I wanted to pay my respects to Eva, Merv, and Eddie. Eva was the idol of my youth. Both she and Merv Griffin were my two favorite lovebirds of the 80's and 90's.

    Thank you for taking the time to explain the rules of military burials.l. It's possible that the rule regarding military uniforms was explained to my Aunt Ineta. She was the one who handled my father's burial arrangements. She was too upset to stay more than a few minutes. Even though I wasn't happy about the clothes, I am pleased with the headstone and cemetery.

    Interesting, but Steve Goldstein is wrong about Marilyn. My family goes back to 1861 in Los Angeles and I grew up in the Westwood Area. Prior to Marilyn's Death, she was seen hanging out in the Westwood Cemetery. THIS IS TRUE and Documented. She found the location to be quiet and she could get away from the crowds and drama.

    • @neildickson5394
      @neildickson5394 Před 7 lety +3

      Well, Marilyn was not creepily "hanging out" in a cemetery. She was there to visit her Aunt Ana, and orhers close to her growing up. Before Marilyn, Westwood was a down and out small cemetery, and if known about a tremendous future investment. Had she been entombed elsewhere, I dare say such valuable land would have been sold, and the few graves there moved., but Marilyn made it world famous and a hugely popular Los Angeles tourist spot.

    This is a bit dated. Liz Taylor was NOT buried here - she is at Forest Lawn in Glendale. Minnie Ripperton is another young burial here. She was a singer known mostly for "loving you". Also Marilyn Monroe's florist, Parisian is not on Santa Monica but is on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood. And this cemetery is well known these days - tourists a plenty! Since this was filmed, burials include David Nelson, Richard Dawson, and Peter Falk. Check it out on the seeing-stars website.

    I want to see the Lincoln movie too. All the reviews have been good. The film depicts the last four months of Lincoln's life. I doubt if they'll mention all the creepy post death stuff. I've read books about every President but Lincoln is the most fascinating. The Library of Congress website has a lot of material on him. You can read the scanned originals of every letter he received in the mail as President. It's a great site for historical information.

    To let others know, sometime after this video was long since filmed, there had been a couple of changes made at Westwood Village. For instance, the simple memorial ground plague to Don Knotts had been replaced by a larger one elaborately engraved with several of the movie characters that Don had portrayed in his career. As for the crypt right next door to Marilyn Monroe...it is now occupied by Hugh Hefner according to his wishes.

    Military "retired" Veterans are not authorized to wear the Military Uniform for burial. The Funeral Director should have explained that to you. Only "active" duty Military personnel are buried in US Military attire. Your retired Military Veteran may where their Uniform while living at specified patriotic functions & to funerals in honor of a Veteran, & then the uniform must meet specific standard, but they can not be buried in it per Military regulations.
