Hi Just what the doctor ordered!! A answer to my prayers, as I have just used my First roll after purchase yesterday the GL 570, I have just found a website that sells them for £5-6 pounds.
I will put mine in the Microwave to warm it 15-20 to test... Thanks again... just great!!

I ordered the cartridges online and they sent me the ones without the plastic insert in error. I had an urgent need for barcodes. Thank you for saving me from disaster this worked brilliantly.

Well, the tip of warming the reel up, was great, I took off the cardboard... and put the reel in the microwave for two mins and 30 secs, (adjust accordingly for your comfort)
and a little pull it came away - Whoo-la!!
PS you have saved me a lot of money!!

So I ran into the same issue at work just a few moments ago and found this video on how to take it a part... well, the video is useless because he completely broke the reusable plastic part; therefore, I took the task on really figure out how to do it right and it's super simple (without breaking the plastic at all)
Step1. Remove the cardboard roll from DK 2205 reusable plastic, use cutters scissors or whatever you can to do so
Step2. Using a Flat screw driver, find a rectangular opening on the inside of the plastic tube and push to the outside to take a part the cap (which is just pressed fit together)
that's it, as simple as that you can reuse DK 2205 reusable cartridge again and again (until you finally break it ^_^ )

If you look into the tube you can see that there is a circle at the bottom of it, thats where they welded the tube to the part that holds to the machine. If you drill that circle you will be able to separate the tube from the left and right "feet" of the roll holder.

I thought I was losing my mind when the cartridge didn't have a way to pull apart. After watching and then reading the heat suggestions in the comments, I tried my butane chef's torch which worked perfectly to heat up just the outer ring. It got soft in about 10-12 seconds and peeled right off. Back in business with the replacement roll. Thank you all.

Got a sample roll that came with the printer, and had the same problem. Mines was plastic in the middle after I removed the paper. I got between the roll and the siding with a screw driver on the other side and popped free. When I looked between the joints of where i popped it looks like they put some type glue there. I did not break any of the peices.

Nope. You are supposed to remove the plastic part from the other end. You made it difficult and you increased the chance of breaking the plastic from that end. There's a You Tube video showing the proper way of removing this part. Search: How to replace brother labels on old spool - You Tube.
