Five Minute TPMS Relearn Using Reset Tool For Nissan Frontier And Xterra

  • In this video a TPMS relearn tool is used to reset the four tire sensors in all wheels on a Nissan Frontier/Xterra 2005-2019. This has been found to work on early 2000 Nissan vehicles like the Pathfinder, Nissan Z, Altima, and more.
    The relearn tool is around $13 and the whole process takes only five minutes to complete. There are many of these types of tools out there but I purchased this one from Amazon.com. The Nissan Frontier/Xterra TPMS computer can only set four sensor so a spare tire or summer/winters tires cannot be set.
    The tool that is used is a VXDAS model and has a transmit and low battery LED. The device can read 315 MHZ and 433MHZ sensors.
    Note:. If pointing directly at the stem does not work try moving it down to the tire and left to right on the tire. the TMPS senor is about 3 in long so moving it around may help get the roll over the device that's inside the tire.

    Okay, so this worked for my 350Z. I bought the same tool and after about three years of dealing with that annoying blinking light, I finally got it fixed. The blinking light would eventually go solid. I used a paperclip to connect to the TPMS connector just like you did in the video. The connector is under the passenger dash. You have to remove some panels and use a Phillips head screwdriver to take off a few panels on the side of the floorboard. It's super easy, and there are plenty of videos showing how to do this part.
    Like others mentioned, I had trouble getting the light to blink for more than a minute. So, I ended up deflating the tires as recommended: 34 psi for the front left, 31 psi for the front right, 29 psi for the rear right, and 26 psi for the rear left. I don't think this step was necessary, though. I probably just messed up the sequence initially and was trying the old method by driving around. Then, I saw your video last night and had the tool overnighted to me.
    Today, I tried again with the same lower psi in each tire. This time, I was able to force the TPMS into relearning mode (continuous TPMS flashing past 1 minute). Following your video, I pressed the button the same way you did, and, no kidding, the hazard lights came on for each tire, and now the light is off. I didn't even have to drive the car. When I turned the car on, the light was steady and then turned off.
    Once I get it on the road, I expect the light might turn solid again until I get the correct tire pressure. I’ll post an update, but I’m so stoked. I've wasted too much time on this problem for far too long.

      Hey just glad that my video helped.😅
      I know what you mean about wasting a ton of time... My video on front end noises came about because my radiator support bolts were loose and rattling my front end over uneven road. I did many hours of testing until I found one post where someone had said that they removed the front bumper and had to tighten those bolts due to similar sounding frontend noise I had. After all that I built the video covering the problem.

    • @flyinghigh0001
      @flyinghigh0001 Před měsícem +1

      Update due to the deflated tires the light did come back on. However once I added proper air pressure in each tire with the car running after the last tire I check the dash and the light is off. Been driving it all afternoon and night multiple restarts no light! Again this is the best way to do it! It’s way better than the old way.

      I agree it can be tedious and if you don't get tire pressure just right you drive around 15min for nothing. If you are switching winter and summer tires this device for around 15$ will pay for itself in time not spent having to drive to set the sensors.

    Thanks for this video. Question for you, if I have to replace the TPMS Sensors on my 2007 XTerra (batteries on current sensors are dead), and purchased a set of new Nissan Infiniti OEM TPMS sensors (315 Mhz), do I have to do anything other than install on the rims, reinstall tires, ground the reset connector, and use the VXDAS transmitter to have the car learn the new sensor frequencies? I'm getting different stories from my mechanic and from Nissan as to whether the new sensors need to be programmed in some way first.

      If they are new 315 MHz sensors from Nissan there will not need to be any special programming. Just follow the process you outlined and what is in the video. The only time you need the special programming are on some other vehicle models or when the sensor is a dual sensor (315 & 433mhz) which will do multiple vehicle types/

In an XTerra 2013, I got the first step right as the tpms light starts to blink, but after that I cannot get the arrows flashing, even for one tire, I have tried the device from all positions. Would it be that the tires sensor batteries are too low? I just tried again and now I cannot even get the tpms light to flash anymore, I am doing the same steps. Any recommendations are appreciated, thanks.

    • @autoxadvice4159
      @autoxadvice4159  Před rokem +1

      Yes, it can be the batteries on the tires are too low. What I've find is that of you get 8yrs out of the batteries then that's about as good as it gets (depending on the brand). Also, I've find that with new sensors I can point the device at the valve stem, and has batteries age have to move the tool closer to the side wall of the tire.
      If you want to make sure the device works as it could be bad you could order some TPMS sensors for your X and test the sensors before they are installed. You should be able to go through the process with the sensors out of the box. Watch out for programmable sensors that can do 315 or 433 MHz sometimes you need a special tool to get them programmed before use.

    • @autoxadvice4159
      @autoxadvice4159  Před rokem

      How old are the your sensors? If they are more than 8 yrs old then they may have low batteries. I had to do all 4 sensors on my winters because the batteries were so low the tool wasn't able to sense them.
      Now with that said, have to tried to position the tool lower on the side wall (rubber) away from the end of the valve. The sensor more in middle part of the rim anyhow.
      Last resort is to buy new sensors (like at Amazon) and then test just to make sure your TPMS tool works.

    • @autoxadvice4159

      From my reading the 2010 Altima TPMS operates on 315 MHz the same MHz as the Frontier 2nd gen. So if the device reads 315mhz it will work. With that said if the reset procedure in the Altima is the same then the device you are getting "should" work, but can't guarantee it. If you read through the comments here others have confirmed other makes and models from Nissan.

This year I had to replace all four sensors on my winter tires as they all had very low batteries, I thought the reader was bad. Replaced the sensors and the reader read all just fine.
      The reader, unless it's bad should read all 315mhz just fine.

      I can't think of a reason why this should not work and since you mentioned the manual way doesn't work either (which can be finiky) then I'm thinking sensors.

    • @autoxadvice4159

      The reset process requires all 4 tpms sensors to check in. What you need to do is to make sure the other sensors check in with the blinkers flashing to confirm. If the batteries are low in the others you may need to get a bit closer to the sensor. Move the tpms tool lower on the tire away from the valve stem. Try that. If that doesn't work you may have batteries too low to operate.

      If you have the system in the relearn setup and point the tool around the be tpms sensor you should hear a confirmation of the 4way flasher click. That indicates the tpms sensor is recognized by the TPMS computer. If the 4way flashers do not click then it means that it did not recognize the sensor or battery is dead.

      So the process is to turn the ignition on but start the truck. Ground out the white wire six times. The tpms light will start to blink. Then use the reset tool at each wheel. Once the wheel tpms is learned the 4-way lights will fash.
      Now you may have to move the tool around near the valve stem and below over the outside tire in the area where the tpms sensor is.
      I had rotated my tires to winter tires last night and this worked for me.

      Are you sure the tpms installed was 315mhz or if it needs to be programmed to use 315mhz.
      Also you may need to move the scanner to the tire below the valve. I've found that my Nissan sensors require this more than my aftermarket. My aftermarkets are more point at the valve, where my OEMs are more of moving over the outside of the tire.

      Does any of the tpms sensors replay a buzz, chime, or beep? It may not be there 4 way flashers on all Nissan models.

      I've read through the 2020 owners manual and that wasn't helpful. The MHz (communication) frequency is still 315 so I suspect that the TPMS unit is still the same one that was used pre 2020. So somewhere there needs to be a reset and I suspect that it's still there maybe tucked away nearly into a wire harness.
      The 2021 model TPMS model was updated to 433mhz so this is why I think 2020 still uses the old system.
      Id have to find the 2020 service manual in order to figure out further.

      It should be as. Check under the dash first to see if you have the white single connector to start the reset. Nissan TPMS all (at least a lot of their models) run on 315mhz so the procedure should work.
      Let me know how it goes. Someone recently asked for their Sentra and the procedure worked for them.
      Note:. If the tpms battery is dead it will not provide a horn beep, a 4way flash click, or other noise, indicating the sensor was set.

      So turning off your 350z and back on your TPMS pressure readings all go away? Does your TPMS light illuminate show a rising light (or other injection)?
      If you are losing your TPMS data by turning the car off then it could be an issue with the tpms ECU losing power (like a disconnected battery). That's just my initial thought.

      Yeah try the steps again. It's really odd that the sync of the tpms works (though I have never done it on a Z to confirm), but then fails at a restart. I have an old xterra (2006) Ive seen in other CZcams channels how “batteries” are dead . How do you tell if this procedure will work or if you need to do something else with sensors themselves … meaning I don’t know but I can’t imagine batteries as the power source . But maybe this other CZcamsr just confused something else as a batterie …. Hint this guy didn’t replace anything he just blocked the light via taking the instrument cluster out …. Which I’d rather save as a last resort , but dont wanna buy a specialized tool no matter how cheap if it hasn’t got a chance at working due to some other issue in the system.

But if you read description most say Nissan , no other species like car models or years … I guess if you have the model number of the tool that’s be great , but if not does just that range of hertz mean it’ll work ?(all assuming my above comment doesn’t negate the necessity for for the tool ie : needs parts replaced “battery” or whatever ) thanks

      315mhz is what you need as that is the frequency the tpms operates on. This tool has a low battery sensor detector but it doesn't directly detect a dead sensor. However, when you walk around to each wheel and do the sensor read the 4-way flashers will blink and click. If this doesn't happen at a certain wheel then that is a bad or dead sensor.
      Here is the exact reset hardware that is used in the video.
