Fabricating a ROOF RACK for the HILUX

I make a roof tray for the ute which turns out really well.
Cutting List:
2 pieces of 50x50 x 5mm angle for the sides
6 pieces of 25x38 x 1.2mm rectangular steel tube for the middle
4 pieces of 40x40 x 3mm square tube for the feet
4 pieces of 80 x 40 x 3mm flat steel for the feet
Fasteners:
4 x 60mm M8 Stainless bolts
4 x M8 Stainless nylock nuts
8 x Stainless washers (as large as possible to spread load from inside canopy)

I like the design - very neat. Why steel though instead of aluminium? It's different stuff to weld (go TIG instead of MIG+Spool Gun) but not too difficult and reasonably forgiving.

Cheers mate, with this specific canopy I personally wouldn’t trust a rooftop on it. I’d be going for something with more internal bracing

From memory I think the angle was about $50-60 and the tube was about $100 all up but steel prices have risen a fair bit recently so would probably be a bit more now
