    Welcome back!
    I recently purchased a used Ferguson 2-Bottom Plow and it’s in need of a little TLC. In this video, I’ll be doing just that: inspecting the implement in more detail to see exactly how I can restore it to its best condition in preparation for my long-term goal of planting a food plot.
    Our mid-twenties weather dictates getting it done inside, but I’ve got the heater going and a really effective paint stripper to help things along considerably. There’s a lot to be done (i.e. rust removal/paint stripping, cleaning, disassembling, ordering parts, painting, etc.) but I’m up for it and pleased to have you join me.
    Feel free to leave a comment if you know of a resource for locating the 2-Bottom Plow hubs mentioned in the video (part numbers: 103211 and 103212).
    As always, thanks for watching. Take Care & God Bless.

    I have a Ferguson 2 furrow plough here in New Zealand im restoring.
    Your missing quite a few parts off yours . On the coulters there should be scrapers. To keep them free of soil bulid up , a lever to adjust the angle of depth up by the top link mount , etc .
    Mine will be painted Ferguson grey as im restoring it to factory condation .

      Let me know what shape your Coulter hubs are in, curious if mine were just one of a kind or if others face the same issue. What model/make is your?

    • @chickenhawkfarmstead8478
      @chickenhawkfarmstead8478 Před 5 lety +1

      I did not even get any with mine. But should not need then I hope. My main plan to restore it is to repaint it. If I luck in to other parts for it I may add latter. I got a 6 foor scraper blade and the 2 bottom plow for $350. No welds so they look good as far as I can tell. Will see how they look onice I clean them up.

    Now that it looks so pretty take your sander and remove all the black paint from the moleboard then take it to sandy ground and plow for about 1/2 hr. to clean it up The mole board has to be shiny to work right. It will not work as intended the way it is. The paint will make it hard to lay the dirt over, it has to be clean. I grew up with using a plow like this, in fact own one now. for what it's worth I am now retired.

    • @thehandyoutdoorsman9014
      @thehandyoutdoorsman9014  Před 5 lety +1

      So bare metal works best? Would never have thought paint would hinder the moleboards from working correctly. Thanks Gerald for the advice, glad a can of black paint is cheap!.

    The dust cover for the coulter blade hub assembly should still available from Massey. It’s the same plow as a MF62. They’re designed to retain the grease and keep the dirt out... I know you probably won’t do much plowing but the hubs themselves are obsolete and it’ll keep them from damage.

      Thanks for the information. Your right, don't do much plowing but want to keep things as original as possible.

    I have one of these but it is a 14. I ended up taking the cutters off because the brome i was working was so thick that it would not cut and it just packed it up with grass and roots. A shiny moldboard face is best.

    • @thehandyoutdoorsman9014
      @thehandyoutdoorsman9014  Před 5 lety

      May I ask what “brome” is. Ok, that’s two people saying I should have shinny moldbooards, still looking into that.

    • @jasonbabcock2742
      @jasonbabcock2742 Před 5 lety

      @@thehandyoutdoorsman9014 Brome is a thick pasture grass used on the high plains and central states for livestock. The shiny moldboard makes it smoother, not that a painted surface is impossible if you have the right soil. Sticky clay will tend to really stick to that face though if there is any sort of roughness.

    They actually are cutters, they cut the sod so that it does not clog up the plow and to let it turn the sod over evenly.

    Im looking at a book here in the UK with ferguson plough parts. I have for a new disk and hub assembly. £130 so a lot of money. The company if you look on Google is called old 20 parts and it says world wide delivery. You can get all sorts of plough parts from them

    If you use a center punch & a small drill bit to make a pilot hole first, the larger drill bit will NEVER dance or move around. And you do not have to grind the pins all the way down to punch & pilot drill them. As a machinist for ten year after going to tech school & a mechanic for forty years, I learn this trick from an old timer. Get you a good punch set at a big box store. I do not have a source for parts, I as hoping you did.
