    I got one of these last week and I’m generally pleased by it. With that being said, I find it very frustrating that the blade guard makes it virtually impossible to see the mark that you want the cut made at, and aligning that mark with the side of the blade! There’s no doubt that the blade needs a guard covering it, but it also needs to not impede the accurate operation of the saw!

    I'm not surprised you didn't check for squareness of cut considering the table movement. Every one got starry eyed at the proxxon name & "German engineering" but no one noticed the huge amount of table tilt every time you screwed or unscrewed the angle adjustment knob. My 2 latest proxxon, "German engineering" purchases were both returned. 12v precision drill with play in the shaft & a similar featured flexible shaft. When combined, they sounded like a jumbo jet. Just unlucky? Nope, a check on youtube seemed to suggest that it was par for the course. My aldi drill had no play in the shaft & the flexible shaft didn't get too hot to touch in less than 45 secs as the proxxon did. You get what you pay for? Yep, you pay for a brand name, you get a brand name. I think the quality of most things has slowly dropped over the years but as long as people are still prepared to dribble over overpriced tools, things will never improve!

      Dude, it is a 100$ saw. The proxxon micromot series is not highest quality you could ever see, it's targeted at hobbyists.

      On mine, the factory detent at 90 degrees, which is non-adjustable, is not even close to 90 degrees! I wound up cutting a piece of wood to prop the detent open at all times, and I square the vise to the blade with a machinist square. The blade guard is junk also! No more Proxxon for me! Their products don’t live up to the hype!

    Good job Tom, very informative , probably worth stating the reason for taking the fence stop out of the way is to stop the blade binding against the material ?
    What would it be like cutting styrene or would that need a different blade?

    • @cb01ttr
      @cb01ttr  Před 7 lety

      Thanks Darren. I should have put it in the outtakes at the end, as I did film myself cutting with the fence stop in place. I would have had to mute the audio though.... I would imagine that the supplied blade would cut styrene, I'll check next time I do some cutting.

    Excellent review, thanks. I’ve got mine coming today.
    I did see a little play in the vise, however 😕

  • @konstantinosakrivos2281

    Never managed to cut square on this machine! There is some play with the vise, so the piece NEVER COMES OUT SQUARE (VERTICAL). You can even see this in this video (11.52)! As soon as the blade touches the piece, due to the pressure applied, there is a movement of the vice downwards and verticaly is lost!!! Additionally, the strip indicating the angle is a cheap laminated paper strip which was partially unstuck from the beginning, letting dust going under, but this is just a minor low quality defect compared to the major problem of the machine that is VERTICALITY!!!

  • @rr7firefly
    @rr7firefly Před 4 lety +3

    So what is the maximum width of a piece that can be cut? (4:55) In inches, please.
    As a newcomer to working with a chop saw for model-making, I have to ask: what is the ideal blade to use to make really clean cuts in basswood? (saw tooth count, saw material)

    Can you use a bar clamp to secure the material on the other side of the blade to the sliding stop's rail? I've read that it can fly off.

    looks like a lot of play in the system. when you bring the board up to the stop at about 9:41 it moved way to much for what I do. also at 11:32 ish the vise moved a lot when you started to cut the bar. Is there a way to tighten this up and remove all this slop?

    I bought this saw, a mf70, and a table saw. The chop saw is great, good heavy duty, the table saw is good but a bit under powered, the mf70 not sure seeing the women in the US lied to me. She told me on the date ordered the servo kit for the mf70 would be in within 7-10 days, so I placed the order for the 3 items and was told to call back in 10 days or so to order the servo. Well, over the next 6-8 weeks calling every 10 days and told 7-10 days, 7-10 days ... After weeks of call as she stated to do, she sells me the can not be sold in the us and she did not know why I was told to call, and they were coming in. WHAT!!! It was the same person. I like the proxxon but will not buy again seeing I have to deal with lairs
