I have the older CRG9, 1440p 120hz VA panel that has less curve to it. I LOVE it for productivity. On Windows, use the FancyZones application, you can make virtual window sizes and snap other applications into the pre-sized boxes. I made 128 little squares, and I can choose how many of them to fill up. So for games that don't support 32:9, make it Windowed and snap it into a 21:9 set of squares, and snap Discord, OBS, whatever, into the remaining squares.

Anyone thinking about using this monitor as a pure productivity monitor - it’s awesome. My cheap Thinkpad can push a full 1440p at 60hz with HDMi to USB-C cable which is perfectly usable for running Excel or other MIS/ERP platforms. Coming from a dual 27” flat screen setup this has been a great boost for getting more done and reducing eye strain. I believe the OLED version is the monitor to avoid due to font legibility issues. I pulled the trigger Thanksgiving of 2020 and haven’t looked back.

@badseedtech in MW, there is a slider in the settings which you can move the GUI elements closer. I had this monitor (now using the OLED version, which for games/movies that do not have 32:9 make the black bars completely black, so no issues there) and with that GUI pulled in towards where they would be on a 16:9 it makes playing those games much nicer. Also, you get a competitive advantage with these types of monitors because your periphery is so much wider, you can see players where you would normally not with a normal screen size.

got this monitor awhile ago, it's a love hate relationship.
in games when it works, it works and nothing comes close in immersion. sadly most times, it does not work, depending how close you are the pushed HUD elements do become a significant problem, and I have ran into several resolution issues as a whole with certain games where I end up changing to 16:9 through Windows. Picture in picture mode is a good idea for productivity, but general use the heavy curve would not be ideal to have your focus on one side of the monitor, unless you don't mind breaking your neck. desktop and productivity is where 32:9 shines the most, and in some games it's a treat. I personally would love the monitor a whole lot more if i can split it into 3 windows, and game in the center without a taskbar while still having the other sides to work with.

I don't think you missed anything here, except maybe talking about how FancyZones from Windows PowerToys is a godsend for ultrawide/merged monitors - I've been running triple 1440p panels for awhile with a curved monitor in the middle using EyeFinity to merge them into a single screen and then FancyZones to divide up the real estate into workable units when I'm not gaming and it is excellent. Not necessary - I could always turn off EyeFinity and use the separate panels as separate panels, but it IS excellent to not have to do that all the time. That said, I am one of those bothered by warping that games get at the edges and have long wondered why developers simply don't allow for a wider range of FOV control knowing these products are out there now. With over 7 feet of monitor in front of you, essentially covering your entire horizontal FOV, capping that slider at 120 is ridiculous.
It's always great seeing ultrawide and super-ultra wide videos, because I've been considering the switch. But I don't think I could give up the 48:9 experience to go smaller - I'm hoping there will someday be a mega-super-ultrawide category that has this aspect ratio

I run a 21:9 34" flanked by two 27" 16:9 and I miss surround gaming that I used to do with my old triple monitor setup.
21:9 is great for overall use but its not even close to surround.
So rather than downgrade my center monitor to another 27" I am thinking to upgrade it to one of these ultra ultra wides with 32:9
Productivity is #1 for me video editing, working from home, photo editing, etc so taking my 3x monitors (1440P) and making it basically 2x monitors was a no go.
    That leaves me two choices.
Upgrade to 3x 4K monitors (looking at the Neo G8) or the 57" Neo G9
No matter what I'll miss having multi monitor side by side with the UUW, especially situations like games that want full screen and I use the extra monitors for other things.
But no matter what if I go 3x 4K I'll miss having a higher performance extended FOV and not having to jump thru all the hoops that is setting up Nvidia surround just to convert from 3x monitors to a single virtual monitor.
3x 4K is going to be hella hard to drive, but 2x 4K that I can manage in most titles with the 4090.
Just seems that there is no perfect solution here and so I am a bit torn.
I am also for the first time in probably 20 years entertaining a VA panel isntead of IPS
I think I just need a 1600P OLED monitor that is 32:9 in about a 46" size once they fix clear text and burn in issues.
Middle of the road good at everytthing, and I can still fit more monitors next to it or above it without breaking my neck.
I am looking foward to my timeline being all the way across a 32:9 monitor lol, Ill use a 2nd monitor for my full screen preview.

  • @julianking6603

Neat, but I've always felt the best setup is a single monitor front and center and then a pair flanking it.
If a single display could do this and I can carve up logical monitor zones for snapping to the edge of those logical screens I'd be on board. This is optimal for a productivity standpoint for me.
For gaming being able to rezone those logical displays depending on the game would be great. If I want to play a single 1440p monitor in the center for a high performance fps. Or span the full width for flight sim. Or something in-between for an RPG. This is my dream monitor.

  • @IOSam

I've been maining a 39" UW (3840 x 1600) IPS Alienware for a few weeks now and even at "only" 29:1 it is already a literal game changer (so I can only imagine what 32:9 might be like!). I was able to solve the issue of the giant stand feet (and lack of height) by using a monitor arm, but I'm thinking here that you'd need a heck of a strong monitor arm to be able to hold the weight of this 49" beast without sagging...
And while my 4080 can do a good job on a 3840 x 1600 resultion @144hz, I think a 5120 x 1440 @ 240hz panel might be one of the very few cases where a 4090 could potentially be justified.

That Alienware monitor is 38” and has a 21:9 aspect ratio. A 4080 is perfectly capable of driving it and the nonsensical monitor featured in this video. Lastly, a 4090 is never justified.

      @IOSam Před 7 měsíci +1

@@SilverJoystix I stand corrected on both accounts for the Alienware panel (typos galore 😂). As for the 4090, yeah... That is why I had to qualify the comment with a "potentially". $1.7k for a GPU is like paying over $100k for a car... Perhaps the biggest complaint I have of ultrawides (and super ultrawides in this case) is that they only make sense when gaming and ONLY when you're not having to look at HUD elements are far reaches of the screen (headache inducing). When used as a daily driver for apps and the like, it's annoying not being able to view content centered in any good way. You're almost always either looking right or left. Some websites can work when in full screen mode, but others are just a terrible experience. In hindsight, from using a 38" UW, I don't think I'd ever buy another until I can split screen in a more dynamic manner (i.e., not just left/right, top/bottom/, top right/bottom right, etc.)

I used to be a hardcore nvidia surround fan back in the day, despite the general consensus being "it's junk and just to show off wasted money". That public perception won over time and nvidia surround got less and less support until it just died out. I found 34" 21:9 a decent replacement - it didn't wrap around as much as surround, but that lost width was where the image started to get stretched and distorted anyway.
It's hilarious to me now seeing people gush over these absurd wider and wider ultrawides, but dealing with these problems all over again.

Did you know you can reposition your HUD elements and minimap closer to center in the settings? Just go to the INTERFACE options and check it out.
I position mine at 50%, so smack where a regular 27" monitor's HUD would be, leaving the sides clear for peripheral vision
And trust me, the rectilinear distortion, while jarring to some, does help with spotting enemies in the periphery of your vision, because they are MAGNIFIED.
It's an unfair advantage, I would even say. You have a wide FOV, and with that wide FOV, your peripheral vision is magnified. Heh.

I have this monitor for 3 years now got it on release and love it, I'm a professional 3D artist, and depending on the software I'm using, usually I push the main window dead center with a 16:9 aspect, and then put drag-able palettes to the side. Animating in Maya is really nice, make a nice big preview window, and still have room for the graph editor. I play a lot of games in windowed mode, more because I will get a little motion sick on FPS type games, but this is a beast with Baldurs Gate 3 and Mortal Kombat 1. Use this monitor with a monitor stand to get that height and reclaim the desk space that stand steals from you. This monitor is also Quirky tho, and mine causes crashes when booting up with other monitors on (one being the Samsung Odyssey G8 OLED, which also has that issue), I will also get random dimming when moving windows around sometimes, it's odd as you just move that window a little further and it stops the issue.

Not sure about newer models of the G9, but beware of the older ones. Many have backlight flickering issues, or worse, scanlines when running at 240Hz. The scanlines are very noticeable and there's no firmware or fix for it other than running the monitor at 120Hz. I cannot recommend this monitor due to these issues. I can't wait to get rid of it.

I have the cheapest version of this monitor and I basically NEVER play games in fullscreen. I always have application like SRWE or windows fancyzones to separate my monitor into three essentially- the middle of the panel is my regular 16:9 monitor, and the two outside ones are we're resolutions for discord or youtube and such. I also use windows 7+ taskbar editor to shrink the side taskbar down to a usable size so I don't have to be looking down at the far corners for different things in windows 10, especially because I use a lower dpi. This is my one and done

What about gaming with a centralized 16:9 and then using the side-space for side-monitor stuff? discord and spotify on one side stacked and like twitch on the other for example.

For Call of Duty I love my 240Hz OLED 21:9 49" 800R Corsair Flex, it's essentially a wide version of a 32-in monitor. I also have the 175 Hz 21:9 34" Alienware OLED which is essentially a 27-in monitor. I only play Hardcore so the HUD position is not as important. However, what is important is fast visual acuity which is considerably better on a 32-in monitor and only improved with higher Hz, OLED's insanely fast response and on monitors that large 800R by far is the best choice!
OLED is certainly capable of 1kHz,

Super Ultrawide just isn't for me, the games that support it usually end up looking poor with major distortion ( it exists on UW as well but no way near as bad ) or they straight up don't support it. Also using it for desktop usage seems good at first but I had to keep looking far right or far left and having to move my head instead of just my eyes on my UW. This as you even said in the vid also happens in games... However its always cool seeing these monitors happening for those that do want this stuff. Came here to give you the view as I already watched everything about these monitors upon release of them, the G9, G9 neo, OLED and the 57inch one

One of my favorite games to play in 32:9 is Destiny 2. They allow you to modify the UI "screen borders" so that stuff like your HUD/Map doesn't get pushed all the way into the corners. I have my borders set to 21:9, so even while playing in full 32:9 fullscreen, all my HUD elements are in the perfect position (for me).

  • @ryanrocksize5

I switched from my 40 inch ultrawide to a Large Format monitor , the LG C1 , and honestly, I just realized how dumb ultrawides really are, never going back to ultrawides ever again
Even productivity taken into consideration, its worse than running dual 16:9 displays because you have a weird way of segmenting elements on the screen, ends up becoming a squeezing of 3 elements on 1 display because having things side by side with the middle as a border is an absolute joke for working, especially being a full stack engineer with multiple IDEs to manage at the same time. Besides productivity , the worst affected one is watching content in general, the black bars is easy to ignore at first but eventually you wonder where all the money you invested in an ultrawide went , just feels like an inferior experience compared to a 16:9 display, and for games , not all games support ultrawide either , and those that do look weird 8 times out of 10. Ultrawides are dumb, period.

That statistic is very interesting, I have had a screen like this for about 4 or 5 years now and can remember maybe a handful of games where I could not play at 32:9. Can I ask for a source for this "less than 4% of games" claim of yours?
As for transporting, I really dont carry my monitors around with me regardless of form factor so cant really comment on that, although I do know for a fact my monitor is much lighter and smaller than my 75 inch TV or my couch or bed.
