Yet another one of the batch of laptops that I purchased second hand, with a motherboard fault. Follow along as I try to learn more about the laptop motherboard and what possibly might be wrong with it.

It is good that you checked for shorts after you removed the hot IC, because we often see that power supplies often get hot when a component on their output line is taking too much current from them. In this video, you did not state the motherboard model, or whether a schematic is available. But given that this board has a VGA connector, I agree that it should be recycled.

It doesnt matter to me if you fix something or not, Im always greatful for learning something new. Probably Sorin would know how to replace that very chip... ;)

You should either sell the laptop for parts,or keep the board for spare parts and sell the chassis if its in good condition.either way,keep the board for parts.

Hey Daniel, You know I used to love the screens with the bigger bezel screens were held in with four screws and very easy to replace. Now the screens are awkward to remove and have to be taped back in.
