How I Breastfeed My Adopted Baby

- Here’s a video, in full detail, of how I induced lactation in order to breastfeed my adopted baby girl. I cover medications, milk increasing foods, supplements pumping, why I chose to breastfeed, and how it’s all been going so far.
*I am not a health care provider. Please be sure to talk to YOURS before trying to induce lactation to come up with a safe plan for you.
**Correction: Domperidone is a medication which has, as a side effect, the increased production of the hormone prolactin.

I didn’t even know this was possible. Our bodies are awesome.
I'm in shock. I did know this either
The dad can even produce brest milk with a hormone supplement and diet adjustment. Some dads have even sympathetically started to produce colostrum just being around their lactating partners.
Yes God is the greatest, he always opens doors when some are closed, we just have to do our homework :)
My friend had a three year old when she was asked by another friend if she and her husband would adopted her baby due in four months. They of course agreed and they started getting ready. What shocked her was two months into the waiting she noticed her breasts getting tender and enlarging. She went to her doctor and they told her it’s perfectly normal that her body was gearing up to feed the new baby. She had stopped nursing her son one year prior so her body already knew what to do and her brain was sending signals as if she was giving birth. Four months from that phone call they were the proud parents of a precious baby girl. She was able to nurse her exclusively from the very start. It’s a special miraculous thing.
This is an old post but years ago when first grandchild was born it had been 2 years since had nursed youngest but it felt like my breasts were ready to relactate
My cousins children are adopted and she breastfed the 3 she adopted as newborns :) i always thought it was incredible of her
Wow! How amazing!! So so cool
Did she only use pump!
Ethel found an amazing mother. Congratulations! Unless you’ve breastfed a baby it’s hard to understand the dedication and mental strength it requires
I'm here trying to figure out how to breastfeed the baby I gave birth to😭 lol
Awww YESSS girl!! Bf is HARD. Good luck and all the best to you! ❤️
There is a tea that you can get from the health food store that works really well! My daughter used it when she was breastfeeding my grandson!
@@danafidler8815 thank you for the advice. I can't take fenugreek because of t1 diabetes. We're seeing a few professionals for help.
Yes, I’ve used the tea too! It has the same ingredients as the mother love more milk plus and it also works great! Thanks for the tip 😊❤️
Samantha Vanscoder, I watched tons of you tube videos. Ate cream of wheat or oatmeal everyday. Tons of water. And time, it takes time and patience. Don’t beat yourself up. Talk with your baby and tell them the plan!!
There are NO videos on CZcams about this & very little information on the internet. You have to buy books to get the information. I try to tell women about this all the time & they never believe me.
yanicca bright Liza from DerekandLiza talks about it too. Unfortunately that match did not work out so she didn’t have a video about after baby. But she does talk about it if you’re looking for more.
Yessss I absolutely love Derek and Liza!! I’ve been following their story 😃
I’ve also linked Laura Moore’s video in my description. She bf’d her adopted baby too 👍🏼
I've induced lactation before for a failed adoption. We're trying again so here I am. I is possible. With the Newman goldfab protocol.
I was a gestational surrogate and while I was carrying the baby the mom induced lactation with this exact method. He went straight from my stomach onto his mother's breast! It was important to her to be able to bond and a incredible experience!
Wow, I love hearing stories like this. Thank you for sharing! Ps- that’s amazing that you were a surrogate! How wonderful ❤️
I grew up without my biological mother, I thank God she left me with the worlds best Daddy....all my life as I was growing up when people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew I up I said, "A mommy."....I'm so happy you to got to be a Mommy. You'll be a great one.💖
Thank you so so much Esther S❤️
Some women can produce with only the sound of a baby crying even though they didn’t just have a baby. Many lactate so easily that they donate their breast milk to the NICU saving and helped many babies. Breast milk in the NICU is liquid gold. Our bodies are truly amazing.
Omg I swear by what you're saying is true I have a 4month old and when I hear another baby crying my breast will hurt so bad milk starts to leak through lol.
I never knew you could do this!!! It's soooo cool! Well it's a blessing!
Thank you!!❤️
I was wondering too
I thought I knew a lot about mommying. At age 16, I began to breastfed my first child until he was 16 months old. Then I breastfed my second child until he was 26 months .
I practiced attachment parenting... although I didn't know it would be called that.
But I didn't know that one could breastfeed without giving birth.
I am amazed.Thank you for putting the information out there.
Happy Parenting!
Thank you for your kind words. And way to go Mama for spending all those months breastfeeding your babies. You are one committed Mama ❤️
As a Mom who went through severe postpartum depression, gave my all at breastfeeding, and then went to bottle feeding because my mental health was more important. It is NOT easier. There are positives and negatives for both sides, but bottle feeding let me rest while someone else was able to take a feeding. I am just as bonded to my happy and healthy 17 month old son as somebody who breast fed.
Brittany Hunter YES!
She means it would be easier in her situation. She adopted her daughter so she didnt get the natural lactation hormones produced by pregnancy she had to induce it herself. So formula feeding would be less effort in her situation.
A FED BABY IS THE BEST & HAPPIEST🥰 IT DOESN'T MATTER IF IT COMES FROM A BOTTLE 🍼 (FORMULA) OR THE BREAST🤗
@@Crapbag97 Scientifically this is not true. But that doesn't mean a bottle feeding mother loves her child any less.
I think since she didn't actually birth her baby but adopted her she felt this did make her bond better. I think because she couldn't birth the baby with her body it was important for her to be able to feed her with her body. It has to be such a blow to a woman to be infertile. I'm glad she has a baby and was able to do this. All mothers have a different story. My sister in law went through so much with infertility. She finally got pregnant with twins and lost them at 23weeks. When she got home from the hospital her breast were so full of milk and it was so heartbreaking to see this mother with no baby but all the milk to feed them. Just a reminder of how they were supposed to be there. A few years later she had a healthy baby girl. She had horrible postpartum depression. She actually looked worse and more depressed with this post pregnancy than the first one. To top it off her milk never came in and now she had a baby and no milk. She was so sad about that. Her journey to motherhood had some cruel twists and turns. Thankfully her baby is 3 and half now and they are doing well. I hope you are doing well and feeling better. God bless all us mothers we are sometimes made to feel guilty no matter what we do. Mine are all grown and I felt a tremendous guilt for being a working mom but that was the only way we could survive so. God bless us all. Being a mother is hard even on the easy days. Doesn't mean we don't love our babies. I am saying this because nobody ever said it to me and I felt terribly guilty for even feeling like it was hard. There was no social media like there is now when my kids were being raised.
You’re simply amazing! I don’t even know how this video popped up in my suggestions but I’m so glad it did. That little girl is so lucky to have you as her mama ❤️
Instantly subbed just from the title.. Your a badass. I'm here for it! Cant wait to check out the rest of your content.
I didn't know you could breastfeed without giving birth. Your video was very interesting and I truly enjoyed it. I was blessed to be able to breastfeed my babies and I loved it! God bless your beautiful family. Ethel is darling!
Thank you!!❤️
They had wet nurses in days gone by.
@Honeysuckle Blossom love all of that information. Especially the formula tidbit.
So my mom started bleeding out after giving birth to her second child and was hospitalized while baby was fine and stayed home. So my Aunt, my dad's sister, actually breastfed my sister for the first week or two of her life. I find that amazing.
Wow! This is amazing, I didn’t even know you could do this! I’m expecting my first baby and this has made me more determined than ever to breastfeed.
I just keep hearing dom perginon 😄
🍾🥂😉😂🤣
I hope you give Ethel a baby brother or sister. Having siblings is so fun and important for children where they are young and old...it changes for the best your whole life.
I applaud you. Sometimes when it comes fearly easy to us (both conceiving and breastfeeding) we take it for granted. When my baby was 4 mo I had a great scare and my milk supply shut off. I did all I could but it wouldn't work fast enough for us and he was hungry and suffering, so I had to start him on formula. Once he discovered the bottle and how fasr he could feed from it he forgot all about mama's milk.
I still made a point of feeding him myself, to give us our time together while he ate. I tell it to all my friends. The importabt thing is that you feed your baby and that you love your baby. If you can breastfeed, great, if you can't, don't beat yourself.
Ok, longest coment ever. Awesome video and you are really inspiring.
Sooo wonderful!!! Thank you so much for posting this. It blessed my heart tremendously!! I breastfed my children 36 years ago, and it's so encouraging to know that some women are still willing to go the extra mile to do the best thing for their child. I have tremendous respect for your commitment to your daughter. Her entire life will be enriched because you gave her this vital start!
Thank you for your kind words ❤️
This is amazing. The effort you have put in, even before your daughter's birth is amazing. Congrats.
Thank you!! ❤️
I’m 8 months pregnant and you are such an inspiration of the kind of mother I want to be. Thank you ❤️❤️
What our bodies are capable of never ceases to amaze me 🥰
I remember nursing my first baby....well meaning as my family may have been they were certain my milk was in no way adequate...and that she needed formula WITH pablum mixed in! 😳
I was the first to breastfeed among many many other women in my family, I’m so glad I stuck to my instincts and did my own thing. My daughter weaned naturally once I became pregnant with my second....but he continued nursing right through my third pregnancy and went on alongside his brother (tandem nursing). Never would have imagine how life played out in my nursing journey, keep an open mind and follow what feels right for YOU 🙋🏼♀️😉
This is truly amazing and you’re an inspiration! Thank you so much for sharing.
I’ve always wanted to adopt but my only issue has been (what I thought) that I couldn’t breastfeed. Now I know this, it’s really opened up my options! I know it won’t be possible with everyone but hey, even mums that birth their own children aren’t guaranteed to be able to.
To know there’s a possibility is just great.
You’re fab xxx
Your adopted baby looks like u☺
When I worked in the mall, shortly after I had my son, I met a mom who had recently adopted and was breastfeeding. She was a wealth of information in general for me and for someone who does want to adopt, I love that this is indeed an option! I did have to take domperidone when I was breastfeeding my son, due to my crazy work schedule at that point in time, I primarily pumped, he had some issues with getting the latch down even after having his tongue tie clipped. Two long years of pumping was 100% worth it in the end, and not at all something that I regret doing. I got such a hard time about sticking with it for so long, and still do from time to time when talking to other moms about breastfeeding. But it is amazing to see more people doing this and actually opening up the conversation for this, congratulations on being to adopt and have a precious baby girl and being able to breastfeed her.
Wow, way to go Mama!! You are one committed and determine woman. That is a LOT of hard work you out in to breastfeeding and pumping!!! Thank you for your kind words too ❤️
Great video... Looking back I wish I had breastfed my two children. The rebirth of breastfeeding was just starting in 1980 when I had my daughter so I had no one to teach me about it. Being bottle fed as a baby it was a topic never discussed as I grew up. I hope the natural ways continue.
Humans have been breastfed for thousands of years. Bottles were only becoming acceptable about 70 years ago around WW2 era. Its because women had to go to work and were under a huge amount of stress with their Husbands at war and many died. In most other countries breastfeeding is expected and normal until child does not want it anymore. In Mongolia they breastfeed their children as long as possible. Sometimes until age 8. The longer they breastfeed the stronger the child. The boys become wrestlers and it shows that ones who were breastfed until at least age 6 are the strongest ones.
@@whendis.roberts6817 I’m 62 so my parents as children into teens had ration cards from the war. They luckily were not in the war but my father joined the Air-force. My mother did work when I was young so this certainly explains why I was bottle fed. I wasn’t living around any of my family where cousins and great aunts etc. would have been a great support team. My husbands family as soon as I mentioned breastfeeding looked for the quickest exit. I just hope that organizations are still there to advise and support the new breastfeeding mother. I know I should have breastfed but you can’t change the past.
That’s awesome it shows how invested you are in this child.😊. I think you’re wonderful!!!
I love that you were able to do this for her and yourself..
I am so incredibly happy for you that you were able to do this for your baby. I’m 7 weeks postpartum and the bonding experience is so special and important to my baby and I. I am so glad you could experience that with her. Thanks for the tips! 💗
This is the first of your videos I have watched. I love this video! I knew this was possible, but you just don't hear people talk about it much. What an incredible way to bond with your adopted child. I was adopted as an infant. I was bottle fed only, as that was just the recommended method back then for adoptees. I really see only positive things coming from this. Ethel is so blessed to have such a devoted, loving, committed mother! It's like they say, "you did not grow in my womb, you grew in my heart".
Oh my goodness, I am so thankful for you and your kind words. That means so much!!❤️
Fantastic way for mum and baby to bond. To help mums to produce when pumping, look at a picture of your baby if baby is in bed. It really helps x
yes pics and videos of the baby help a lot!!
Bonding aside, their is NO BETTER food for children.
What an amazing and dedicated mother!! Your perseverance in this video made me cry!! 💜😭💖
This is EXACTLY what I needed to hear. I’m about to start this process and I cannot wait. Thank you SO much!
Oh YAY!!! So excited for you!! Keep me posted and let me know how it goes. All the best to you!❤️
This is soooo amazing. I had no idea this was possible. I’m an adoptee myself. 🥰
Wow I didn't even know that was possible! That's so awesome to get to have they connection! There's nothing like it ❤
Wow I never knew that this was possible. This is so awesome that you are able to do this. I loved being able to nurse my babies. It was a great way to bond with them. It is awesome that you are able to do this.
some people don't want to breastfeed babies they gave birth to...
Gail Land of course some people don’t want to breast feed. But I’m not sure that has to do with her nursing her daughter.
She’s beautiful! Congratulations on your huge accomplishment!
Thank you!!
This video gives me so much hope! I have struggled with infertility for the past 3 years and I am now considering adopting. Might have to come back to your video if things turn out good 🤞🏼
I was watching your previous video and after watching was talking to my husband and was curious how you could breast feed but but not give birth. This video is extremely informative and so amazing that you and your baby can have the beautiful bond through breast feeding. I had heard of it before but never fully understood it. I'm sure this video can and will bring knowledge to other families who plan to adopt and might want to do the same and it really is such a blessing. Thanks for another video ... I'm honestly so happy for you and your husband x
Aww thank you so much! I appreciate your encouragement
What a beautiful lucky little girl to have a dedicated wonderful moma like you. I'm a great grandma and what u did so that she could get the best start in life was just awesome! I wish every child were that lucky!!!!
I LITERALLY TRIED EVERYTHING to breastfeed my son and I couldn't even produce a fourth of an ounce a day. I tried making "lactation" cookies, I took fenugreek, I took anything natural I could and ate foods specifically to induce more lactation and I felt like such a failure. I saw several doctors to see if they would prescribe me meds and they all told me no and there was nothing I could do because my body either would or it wouldn't but they encouraged me it would get better with my next baby (whenever that is). SO THANK YOU for making this. It honestly gives me hope and ideas for if I arrive at the same problems later down the line and what I can do for me and my babies. I felt like the one thing my body was supposed to be able to do, it couldn't and it was DEVASTATING because he latched amazing and everything. Thanks again!
OhLeahLRae. I found a lactation clinic at a hospital after my third pregnancy. I was prescribed domperidone and they had follow up appointments to asses the progress etc. Doctors also told me there was nothing to do, but there was, they just didn’t know themselves.
I went to my doc asking about it and to my midwife, etc but it was not FDA approved in the US but it was in Canada. And I remember asking my doctor and he said he wouldn't prescribe me it because it could cause heart attacks and seizures in people even in their 20s (I was 21 at the time) and that perfectly healthy people could take it and die from it. Idk, I felt like they were hearing me and not listening to me and just telling me to suck it up and deal with it. I even woke up throughout the night to pump and I supplemented with my son latched to me and a tube in some formula that he got while he was latched. I also let him pacify on me, nothing worked and by the time he was almost 4 months old I finally called it quits because it was SO daunting and emotionally just traumatizing. I remember seeing the lactation consultant and they were pleased with everything at the start but my son was almost 10 pounds when he was born and by the time he was 2ish weeks he had lost 2 pounds. I probably should have made another appointment but I had a nurse doing home visits with me every few weeks to make sure it was good and she was amazing at tracking my son's weight, and she even weighed him before and after feedings. I'll have to look into that med for my second one whenever I have another baby, so long as it's approved to take and someone is willing to actually help me! Thank you!
OhLeahLRae thank you for your comment. I’m so glad the video is an encouragement to you!! It can totally be devastating when breastfeeding doesn’t turn out the way we planned. I’m glad this gives you some hope!!❤️
Super helpful. Thanks so much for taking the time to put this together!
❤️🙏
Your little girl is so lucky to have such a wonderful Mommy. Lovely baby!
She's precious! God bless your family.
I haven't the slightest idea why this video was recommended to me but, wow! I'm so very glad it was.
The links alone make it the most helpful video I have watched in a very long time. The actual content of the video is simply amazing though.
I can't wait to forward this on to my daughter in the morning. I think you have answered every question and concern we had.
Thank you so very much for sharing all you have learned during your amazing journey into parenthood.
Wow, thank you so much for your kind words and your encouragement. I’m so glad this video was helpful for you! Yes please share it with your daughter too. ❤️
You sound so nice and passionate about this topic. I'm happy it all worked out for you!
Thank you SO much!❤️
Absolutely brilliant, attachment achieved x
You are a ROCK STAR in my mind! Keep up the great work mama! Nothing is more precious as the bond formed when nursing. It is a bond that lasts a lifetime.
All the best.
Aww thank you so much!!
Erin Novosel, Get a grip. Breast feeding creates the most amazing bond?? Seriously? So if she hadn't breastfed her baby, she would't have the same/as good of a bond? Are you implying that women who don't breastfeed are less bonded to their children?
Francesca Cialone gtfo 🤦🏽♀️🙄
@@francescacialone9030 someone's salty.
@@francescacialone9030 She was being encouraging. It's true - breastfeeding is a special and unique experience. Besides just because someone says they like chocolate doesn't mean they don't like vanilla 😉
Ethel is so lucky to have you as a mommy. You work so hard to ensure her health. You’re an amazing person for dedicating this effort towards breast feeding rather than formula feeding.
THANK YOU for taking the time to encourage me. It means so much and I’m definitely feeling the love. 😘
You are a great mother. You have done an awesome job doing what is best for Ethel. She is the most beautiful baby. What a blessing! ❤
That’s incredible, I had no idea this was possible!
Way to go! You sound like such an excellent momma! That must have taken an incredible amount of dedication to pump BEFORE your little girl was even born!
Thank you! 🙏 Yes it was A LOT of work but it’s been so worth it. ❤️
Not sure why this never crossed my mind!! I’m so blown away
You look so happy!! 😊😊 I'm so glad that you're having such success. Much love to you and little Ethel. ❤

Ohhh my gosh she is so precious!!!
This is so encouraging!!!! Thank you thank you for this video!
That is so great. She actually resembles you and your husband a little bit! Melts my heart. But definitely doesn't help cure my baby fever.
What a wonderful blessing and very precious. I’ve never heard of this being done before so it’s so good you have educated and shared your story. As you said it will deepen the bond for your daughter. Soooo good. 💜💜💜💜
Thank you so much Leonie ❤️
Wow, I loved this video and all the value information.
I admire your perseverance.
Your're a super mom!
Good for you guys!👍🏾. Fenugreek seeds are also helpful for increasing milk production.
I think this is amazing. I truly loved breastfeeding my youngest and the bond it created. How incredible to think your video can help other future mum's/mum's have a chance of experiencing breastfeeding too.
Thank you for your encouraging words! And yay for having loved breastfeeding your youngest. It’s so true, the bond it creates is so deep! So thankful I can breastfeed Ethel
I am watching this video thinking you go to all these lengths to be able to feed your baby and some people with perfectly good milk supplies just decide to go with formula for convenience. I am lucky in that I could breastfeed my babies, and I’ve done a lot to keep my milk supply up but you are next level! This is what I call commitment, you guys are the best parents this baby could have got!
Wow thank you for such kind words!!! And way to go for all the hard work you’ve put in to breastfeed your babies and keep your milk supply up. That is serious commitment too!! Xo
She is just the cutest !!!! great work Mama !

This is amazing. What a blessing. You are a great mom.
Thank you so much!!❤️
That's amazing. Good for you girl 👍
Wow! This is amazing!!! I’m adopted, and my mom has discussed how bad she felt not having the option to nurse. However, not sure all of this information was out there or readily accessible back then. However, I nursed almost three years. Keep going if you can...WHO says 3 years as it correlates to brain development (80% of brain develops in first 3 yrs). Don’t let anyone deter you because this is a HUGE accomplishment and is SO much better than formula, which is horrible. Anyway, good luck and many blessings! Definitely sharing with some of my friends who study this along with me 🤗💕
Wow thank you for your comment. It means so much to me to be encouraged and supported by you. Thank you for following along ❤️
