Excellent video sir! I’ve had mine for almost a week now... Man, I need to get some sleep! What a delightful piece of kit to explore... I’m augmenting it with a Behringer Neutron next week so I best get some extra strong coffee in too! Peace ✌️
This tutorial is fantastic . I do find myself wondering how well I would have learned algebra with a commercial right in the middle of each equation . Nonetheless I own one of these instruments, and truly appreciate the effort that went into providing this priceless informative resource . You are a blessing to your fellow synthesists .
Bought one today...its amazing ..love it to bits ... i think its amazing value for 400 uk pounds...vvv happy! I watched your vids b 4 buying which made me drool...lol.
Thanks for inspiring me to get one of these! This insane sequencer is the foundation upon which I built my Eurorack system I use in my videos every week! Probably wouldn't have considered this bad boy without this super helpful review.
I know this video is many years old, but it still is the most up to date video of the MB2s! I recently purchased one and, due to its many features, I have been watching your video religiously! It’s been helping me so much. Thank you!
You are really awesome. I really enjoyed this teaching episode, very informative. I'm a 66 year old kid at heart and I love toys. I have an cool midi setup in my basement along with modular stand alone synths wired together. Really thinking of buying the Mini brute S, pretty soon from Sweetwater, which is my go to company. I'll be checking in shortly. Stay cool!!!
I love coming to your videos to get more information than Arturia's website :) Well-done once again! And thanks for the detailed overview (and always a fan of the oscilloscope!)
I have it and it's a beast. Can be as simple as you want or really dive deep. Huge sounding. Great built quality. Wide range of tones. I love a Moog but you can't really compare the sound. If that's the tone you need then get that. This will do something close and a hundred others.
Great demo, thanks. Glad it was made, would take quite a while to learn through docs. Will have to watch at least 2x more to try those advanced sequences haha
My friend told me I might like this I checked out one or two videos. Then I saw this video and as soon as I got some money thanks to this crazy virus. I am patiently waiting on my first semi- modular gear. I already have a MicroFreak that thing gets some insane stuff that was my first Synth then I was missing a drum machine but I got an early Birthday present from my friend a Drum Brute Impact. Long story short I like Arturia and I am excited to have this beast the squencer alone is insane. TLDR you definitely solidified my choice. Thanks for the informative and knowledge on the products you review!
This synth is sooo fun. I spend hours creating sounds and sequences. I also have and love my Novation Peak, it was my most treasured synth until I got the MBS2. But now if I had just take only one synth with me, that would be the MBS2. When I got it I was really overwhelmed by its sequencer and sound. I have watched so many videos just with bleeps and clicks that I thought that was the best you could do with it, but boy I was wrong.
i am really curious, why some individuals give a thumbsdown on videos like this, its not, like someone has to view an amazing tuorial till end. Love to loop
Man, what a great idea! I just tried it and it's nuts. So, yeah, the answer is yes... I gotta weave that into a future video - I'll make sure to give you credit!! For some reason it doesn't work exactly as expected on a square wave - square behaves like a triangle for some reason, but the other shapes are working great!
You ask for suggestions on future videos about it: You call it paraphonic, but surely anything that has a spare VCA, a separately controllable VCO *and* separate sequencer lanes *along* with the ability to do envelopes on said lanes is fully duophonic with just a slight bit of patching... Granted, you don't have a filter for that part unless you feed it back in afterwards. Would be fun to see some patches done this way. Cheers.
machinate thanks - if you’ve seen my other videos you know that’s my favorite synth pet project... the video you’re talking about is already in the works and yes polyphony is possible, not just paraphonic... stay tuned ;)
Thanks, but man you're not going to like my channel because I just don't care. What an odd peeve though, you must be making that comment a lot with the large number of analog synths that have continuous tuning knobs
This thing should be illegal-it’s a “brute” all right-especially with that sequencer-jaw dropping. I could spend weeks with this machine and I’d be in heaven every single minute of it. Awesome machine, Ziv-thanks for showing it off to us properly-like! 🤓👊🏼😉
Whoa. Great review, and so many options! I was just watching the Pittsburgh Modular Microvolt 3900 preview video, and it looks like it has some good West Coast-style functions available (particularly their "Function Generator"). This synth has it beat, I think. All the LFOs! I imagine with some work one create self-generating music with this.
This is an awesome video man THANK YOU! The sequencer is incredible on this machine. This is one of the most amazing & exciting new pieces of gear I've seen in a good while. I can't wait to add one (maybe 2 and go Mother 32 style) to my current set up. I'm especially excited to rock this mean machine with my Mother 32 and my eurorack modules, as well as my Drumbrute too. It's sounds dope, looks good, and seems to have incredible functionality. This is a HUGE overall win in my book. Keep up the good work dude!
ps, I feel like the answer should be yes but can you sequence euro rack systems with its sequencer, and if so, can you do all of the cool advanced sequencing features you show in this video? Thanks in advance.
Thankful to U friend..videos r super easy to understand and so inspired! i was searching for some Synth to have a nice Sequencer and control of it- i think i found! Hugs from Ukraine!
Loopop great video, you've help me to make up my mind about going modular and where to start. During NAMM I saw another instrument that got my attention away from my 2018 plan getting into eurorack modular but now that the NAMM dust is settled the Arturia Minibrute 2S is my entry.

supercommando440 there are two versions of this synth, this one has really amazing sequencer capabilities, and the other one called the minibrute 2 (no s) has a 2 octave full size keyboard
@loopop do you have a video on your software oscilloscope. cant find it if any. And Thanks. That the most professional and detailed videos i could find down there. Man you rock.

About triplets. Thank you for this really nice review. I just bought one , but I am really thinking about returning it. This beast does not support triplets in time division (compared to the normal minibrute 2), what is a dealbreaker for me, as some of my sounds need the driving groove of triplets. Does nobody miss this feature ? Are there ways to overcome this limitations ? What I do not get is, that such a power sequencer misses an absolute basic function and it does not seem to annoy many people :-). Also the only review I remember where this fact is taken in account is your compare review between the Minibrute 2 / 2s.
I have a Minibrute 2S and it is great. The only thing I realy miss and reclaimed two times to Arturia is the missing of prog changes/bank changes. But so far nothing happens and only 1 update was available 2018. Nothing more.
Would you recommend the MiniBrute 2(S) or the Grandmother as a first synth? Which do you think gives me more possibilities? I'm mainly into Epic Orchestral (JXL-style) stuff so will probably use the synth more in an aggressive way and for Sound-Design...
The minibrute 2s.. I was in the same exact spot as you just a few months ago.. and I bought the grandmother simply because it wasn’t as complex.. and seriously I was outta things to do and learn on the grandmother within a week. Not to say it’s not a cool synth.. but this synth.. oh man.. first of all you get a much larger patch bay.. it gives you infinite sounds.. and the sequencer on this is insanely awesome.. you have maybe a third of the capability on the moog. If you truly are trying to get some experience with semi modular synth than this can take you all the way there.. the grandmother leaves you graduated still as an advanced beginner.. this gets you intermediate to advanced intermediate once you learn it.. another awesome synth though to take a good LONG look at is the Korg minilogue xd..the best part about that synth is the screen so you can see what’s happening to the sound via the waves produced when not connected to a computer.. neither the grandmother nor the minibrute 2 or 2s has this and man.. if it had one... there would be zero argument.. this would be the best semi modular in the market..
You mentioned at the end that you were going to do more videos on the Minibrute 2S sequencer. It doesn't seem like you ended up doing any as of yet, directly related anyway. It would be neat if you did do some more material on this amazing sequencer. I still find the envelope and LFO sequencing confusing. Also, when pitch sequencing Oscillator 2, it triggers all the subsequent steps in the pattern, whether or not you've placed an active step there. Why is that? Thanks for the video!
