- Turns out a signature guitar for Technical Death metal artist Michael Keene is a lot more versatile than I originally thought. This is a new guitar from Vola and I'm really enjoying it.

Apparently whoever designed that 12th fret inlay never watched Community.
E Pluribus Anus
yeah cuz it's boring
Michael Keene man, I hope he's doing okay. He's been through hell.
On the nickel frets thing - I've found that guitars nowadays (in the last 7-10 years) even from big brands such as Gibson are using nickel fretwire that is of lower quality and the frets can wear out faster, depending on your touch. It's all about increasing margins, penny wise but pound foolish, cheaping out on components.
Bring that to a dark and Violet lit venue for a gig and be the brightest entity in the whole venue lol
You've missed an opportunity to play Kyuss's Green Machine on a Green Machine....
Love that track in the beginning!
nice playing bro
Looks pretty epic
I only buy guard with stainless frets at this point. I've bought and played several guitars from the early 2000s with nickel frets that had been worn flat. These were metal guitars and I think it's fair to suspect that those playing them used fairly high pressure, but it's still a significant problem down the road. In fact, I have a buddy with a Schecter Omen from around 2015 that desperately needs a fretjob.
Perhaps Schecter used garbage frets and the frets on the Volo will outlive us all, but there's no way to verify that, and if I'm dropping 2 grand on a guitar I want to know that it'll still play nice in 10 years
i love the caparison soft cases. the best soft case i've ever seen
I like the way Volas look, but I really bristle at their 6 in line headstock shape. It's the Suhr headstock, one of the nicest designs ever. In terms of legality, they're getting away with it but I really wish some guitar brands would just take the time to establish their own identity with respect to headstocks.
It's probably more about the quality of nickel frets - cheap ones absolutely do wear out quickly if played a lot. They either end up so low as to be unplayable other than shredding, or so castellated (usually acoustics) as to be, well, unplayable. Decent nickel frets can last a very long time if looked after, but steel frets WILL last practically forever no matter how you play 'em or treat 'em. Only time will tell if Vola used the good stuff or not.
Saw the green and without even thinking, instantly recognised it as Keene's guitar before i had read the description.
Looks nice
I was lucky enough to try it at Paris Guitar Festival ( the great meeting for Guitar/amps makers in France ). Great instrument with a strong personality!
Love the Lando tee shirt.
It definitely has a fresh minty look to it! Sounds Sweet! What where you running it thru?
Running through a Line6 Helix for this demo
Vola been pushing this mfer hard! Vola is on my list to own.
I’ve been looking at Vola for a while now. I love the fact that the options they have for left handed players aren’t all cheap throw away guitars like some Manufacturers.
I LIKE.👍
I'm happy with my Desert Yellow Ibanez Genesis RG550 (also made in Japan). I haven't seen a brighter yellow guitar! At half the price. Nothing flutters better than an Edge Trem, imho
I really hope they bring back the Blaze model. That thing was so cool.
The amount of guitar brands is pretty mind blowing
And then there's more :)
You have to wonder how there's enough customers for them to stay in business
I had a 6 string dingwall bass with nickel frets and they got pretty chewed up over 4 years. But I used steel bass strings, there should be a disclaimer about that.
The Fluence doesn't have coil split?
12th fret marker looks like the Chimaira band logo from a distance
Cool axe
Stainless frets are cool, but the life expectancy of nickel frets can be extended significantly by limiting the the left hand grip strength (i.e., play with a lighter touch) and - more importantly - by strictly avoiding oxidized / rusty / worn-out strings.
Or you buy a guitar with stainless steel frets and never have to worry about any wear… plus they don’t oxidise either so stay shiny.
The Gotoh trem is awesome!!! Nickel frets wear out fast when people use steel strings like Elixir.
I've worn out 3 guitars in 4 years for each with Elixir strings and that's with less than an hour daily playtime.
If you use normal nickel alloy strings then it's ok. I switched to GHS strings and that doesn't happen anymore. :)
All I can think of when I see "green machine" is kyuss. As for the guitar, looks ok. Not a fan of the green but the take on the "S" shape is neat and ebony is always pretty.
Been looking at base model Volas for $750, that's a pretty good price for what you get imo
That Gotoh bridge is what I consider the best. It's rock solid, comfortable, and even offers locking posts.
That Ibanez has a Lo-Pro made by Gotoh.
Cool. Thank you for the correction @@oliverjames7315
@@oliverjames7315 Thank you for the correction!
This guitar has strong kmac vibes.
Dayglo rocks 🤘
I've got a Chris Broderick Jackson Soloist and it's honestly the best guitar I've ever owned, some of the best guitars I've played have been signature guitars, but also some of "I'll say" my least favourite have also been signature guitars, the worst being the Synyster Gates Schecter, did not like that guitar at all
Nearly 3k in australia and they still cant put a genuine floyd rose on it smh
Gotoh trems are as good as Floyds and less than half the price.
Nice looking guitar and it will stand out for sure… but if I’m dropping 2k on a guitar, stainless steel frets are non-negotiable.
I also expect cosmetic finishing to be top notch and that includes routed cavity under the trem… it seems this model has a mess underneath the trem that hasn’t been sanded down before coating. Completely cosmetic but noticeable and yeah, this isn’t a cheap instrument.
For comparison sake, you can have Schecter SLS Elite FR, that comes with the same pickups but also stainless steel frets and it is significantly cheaper.
I have never wore out frets. I have a mij charvel from the early 90's and it's still fine. Im not a gigging musician though so idk.
I've worn down the frets on 2 guitars in the past 10 years. One I've had the whole time and played actively for about 6 years (Vintage branded Les Paul copy) and the other was a Schechter Damien 7 I had for less than 3 years. That Schechter had really soft frets...
Edit: oh yeah and I have a 2021 Ibanez rg752 that I've played somewhat heavily, and it's due to a refret soon. No playability issues yet thankfully, but there are already visible canyons going on there.
I've worn out nickel frets I'm even holding out on two fret jobs right now. I'm a heavy handed player though and bend strings quite a lot. Depends on your style and the force you use mate
I play professionally (lead guitar) about 80, 3 hour shows a year (80s rock/hair metal) and use late 80's/early 90s Jacksons, Charvels, and Fender Strats & HM Strats. All of them have nickel frets and all I do is have the frets dressed every 6 months or so. I've owned some of these guitars for over 30 years and they all have the original frets. Never have they needed a refret and each one has 1000s of playing hours on them. A good idea is to get a fret dress as soon as you see wear. Fret wear is also an indication that you're pressing too hard. Lighten up your touch and you'll put less wear on the frets and use less energy... which allows for more control. A win-win.
the way i see it is we've been playing nickel frets forever. stainless steel isnt a deal breaker. i have one guitar with stainless steel and its pretty cool, but it does have a sound and feel to it thats not for everyone.
I'm always amazed when youtubers can make their guitar sound like drums during the sound demo
Some people want to hear how a guitar sounds in a mix because they don't just sit alone in their rooms playing with themselves lol
'It's not going in!' That's what she said! ;oP
You could spot Keene’s green machine a mile away lol
Not even one green screen sfx? I feel sad
I don't want to immediately dismiss this guitar, but it seems to be just like any other super strat.
Don’t use stainless steel strings on nickle silver frets if you want the frets to last longer!
Something about the body & color that says "cheap"...
there is nothing cheap about vola guitars, were talking 2 grand
@@DE-GEN-ART still looks cheap and plastic. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@jeffallen3382your mom looks cheap and plastic... ho ho
Three piece laminated maple neck AND a volute? Talk about overengineering. Well done, Vola.
I don’t understand the obsession people in this comment section have with stainless steel frets.
Ten nuanced tone settings for sensitive Technical Death Metal... Which should only be played in your moms' basement after a long shift at Subway.
What does this comment even mean?
I have to stop buying guitars. Why did I watch this? Why?
Two grand and it comes in a gig bag? Yikes!!
More of like a soft case. I’ve grown to prefer them to hardshell cases. Just take up way less room and still are plenty protective.
lol right
Did you not see that he says he can't push it in? Bro it's current year, there's nice soft cases now. Caparison, Ibanez, Jackson, Warwick/Sadowsky/Framus, Dingwall, and many more brands use them because they're good and easier to store and carry than clunky hardcases.
It has to be a Japan thing, alot of very expensive guitars made in Japan only have soft cases, In dont know why
@@jeleopard
Yes. Cost has nothing to do with it, lol.
SMH.
I'd still expect stainless steel at this money
Far too expensive for what it is.
I wear the shit out of nickel frets. 😢
Everyone is hocking this friggan guitar🙄
I won't buy a vola just because they are spamming CZcams with shills
It wasn't a paid review but they gave me $2000 in guitar.
Go back to the fact finding/ journalist type videos
I hate ugly 12th fret logos
🤮
