  • Explore the bustling streets of Cebu City where the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit system will pass through! In this immersive virtual tour, we’ll take you through key stations along Package 1, connecting commuters efficiently from the Cebu South Bus Terminal to strategic locations.
    The Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project is a mass transit system planned and conceptualized by the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC, now Department of Transportation or DOTr) and the Cebu City Government (CCG) for Metro Cebu in 2012. A BRT provides fast mass transportation through dedicated road lanes and terminals thereby reducing traffic congestion and improved vehicular traffic.
    🚌 CEBU BUS RAPID TRANSIT PACKAGE 1:⁣⁣
    Comprises of four bus stations along segregated bus lane from Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) up to Capitol Area covering approximately 2.38 km in length. Contract Package 1 will pass through four BRT stations and have a link to sea port road of 1.15 km which will be improved. The overall estimated corridor length of Contract Package 1 is 3.53 km. CP 1 will be constructed ahead of other CPs as this is tagged as the “Partial Operability Section” or POS.
    ✅ Trunk Service: South Bus Terminal to Capitol via Osmeña Boulevard

      The mess we are experiencing in our country is due to our car-centric approach. Cars are still considered a luxury and a prized possession for almost everyone, but many are unaware that the uncontrolled sale of cars and the issuance of driver’s licenses are what have caused our heavy traffic.
      As for the BRT construction, they even work in the midnight especially when it involves road closures but still a lot of delays but at least it's moving 👍

      @@lakwatsatourMany are having the sentiment as a commuter that if only public transportation in the country was a bliss, there wouldn't be a dire need to purchase a car. Which would then be costly in the long run due to expensive fuel consumption and maintenance. The Philippines imports oil and gas, so that would be huge savings for the country should it empower electric-run vehicles and use renewables highlighting its rich geothermal landscape. Instead, large foreign car companies such as Toyota and Ford are exporting so much in high volumes for an archipelago nation, alongside the countries' dysfunctional Land Transportation Agency - LTO - who then indiscriminately release uncapped motor vehicle registration and driver's license instead of monetizing from traffic violations to curb erring/ unworthy drivers. There are illegal consortium between car distributors and the government agency bribing the latter from every unit released. Salespeople are to blame too due to ridiculous marketing. The toxic Filipino culture of perceiving car ownership as a form of "success". All in all this has to stop.

      I believe this is the most feature-rich sidewalk in the country, created by the national government (not private entities). They used real bricks and included tactile paving for visually impaired people. The sidewalk features a planted strip with various vegetation, trees, lamp posts, and street lights. The outermost part of the sidewalk, adjacent to the street, serves as the "active" sidewalk for people who want to jog and run.
      In other words, kaya pala ng gobyerno natin! Hindi lang ng mga private companies sa mga business districts nila makakita ng tamang sidewalk. Imagine something like this in the whole stretch of EDSA. 😩

However, Cebu City's BRT will be the most extensive BRT system in the PH to date. Can't wait to see it running! BRT is a much better idea than LRTs which are way too expensive to run. Hopefully, the success of the Cebu BRT can be replicated in all of the most populous or urbanized cities throughout the country soon (Iloilo, Davao, Baguio, Legazpi, Puerto Princesa, Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro etc).

      For NEDA to approve a major project like the LRT, MRT, or Subway, the feasibility study must show that the project won’t operate at a loss and that the money spent on construction can be recovered. This means the project needs enough riders to sustain its operations, or else it will be “LUGI” (a loss).
      This is to avoid the mistakes made with LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3. These rail lines are subsidized by the government, meaning the government spends money to keep fares affordable and operations running, even at a loss. In other words, people in Visayas, Mindanao, and other parts of Luzon, who have never used these rail lines, are paying through taxes so that people in Metro Manila can continue using them.
      Unfortunately, the ridership in Metro Cebu isn’t large enough to sustain even the most affordable option, the LRT. This is true not only in Cebu but in other cities outside Metro Manila. That’s why these rail systems are only found in Metro Manila, where the number of passengers is big enough to make operations sustainable, although even there, three lines have failed to do so. Although they were able to construct a rail line that is operating at a loss, they cannot do the same in Visayas and Mindanao. We are not their priority.

Habang ang ROW acquisition naman ng Packages 2, 3 at 4 ay through negotiated sale and/or other modes of acquisition as provided by law and WB guidelines.
Within that 8 years, never silang nag-reklamo at nag-salita. Pero kung kelan na nasimulan na ang pag-construct ng bus station sa harap ng Capitol mismo, doon pa sila simulang nag-reklamo. Waste of time at pera. 🤬

      Beause of politics. The cebu provincial governor, who had no business with Cebu City, found a way to hinder the progress. The governor had been successful for delaying months of progress under these violations/circumstances:
      1.) the bus stations were blocking the view of the Capitol building being it as a historical heritage
      2.) traffic that it caused to motorists especially to her constituents under her jurisdiction. (in my opinion based on my experience and observation, the cities and municipilaties under the jurisdiction of the governor have been riddled with traffic even prior tothe implementation of the brt)
      3. The brt have encroached a few meters within the capitol lots. From capitol building to fuente osmena circle, lots along the boulevard are owned by the capitol.
      The brt has been around for almost a decade. This could have been avoided if the governor have voiced her concerns prior to the implementation of the brt. She knew before hand that the brt will be implemented near her lots. There were news about her demanding payments and rental from the Cebu BRT team and DOTr.

      Sadly, Lapu-Lapu is not part of the BRT. The Cebu BRT is an initiative by the Cebu City government only. If other cities wants the BRT to be extended into their own backyard, they have to follow what Cebu City did to have it, go to the congress or ask NEDA for it.
      It is easy to expand the BRT network. If Talisay City wants it, it can just expand going to the south. If Lapu-Lapu wants it, they need to cooperate with Mandaue City because Cebu BRT ends at Talamban and going to Lapu-Lapu means, it needs to traverse the major roads in Mandaue City.
      My wish is to see Cebu BRT in the future run from Talisay City-Cebu City-Mandaue City-Lapu-Lapu City.

    After the BRT, the adjacent private lane road should pedestrianize like Intramuros, reroute private vehicles (see: Superblocks), or make new road for private cars if no available reroute roads (because of lack of grid design or alternative passby roads; dead end maze; disconnected road from point A to B), just to make it away from people and BRT; put lighting (floor light highlight are also beautiful), architectural and cultural design (see: Pasig Esplanade; Ayala Terraces); redeveloped underutilized building and spaces (see: Not Just Bikes);

    roads aren’t wide enough. should be 4 lanes on both sides because in few years the number of cars will increase at the same time there is a significant increase of people using motor bikes. Soon it will be congested like Metro Manila.

    • @julfinch
      @julfinch Před 22 dny

      I’d like to share an observation about Metro Manila’s roads. Despite their considerable width, the city still grapples with heavy congestion-earning it a notorious reputation for having some of the worst traffic in the world. Now, if road widening and expansive highways were the ultimate solution, why does Metro Manila continue to suffer from gridlock?
      The answer lies not in the roads themselves, but rather in the uncontrolled proliferation of vehicles. As the number of cars on the roads steadily increases, even wide thoroughfares become clogged. Engineers find themselves caught in a cycle: widen the roads, only to see them congested again once new vehicles flood in. Perhaps we can take a cue from Singapore, where measures like limiting car sales and carefully managing driver licenses have helped control traffic on their limited road network.
      Another effective strategy is to invest in more mass transportation options-such as BRT (Bus Rapid Transit), LRT (Light Rail Transit), and MRT (Metro Rail Transit). By complementing road infrastructure with efficient public transit, we can alleviate the strain caused by our car-centric society.

    • @blucodilla5036
      @blucodilla5036 Před 21 dnem +4

      The purpose of BRT lanes is to discourage single-occupancy vehicle use by car owners, aiming to promote more efficient transportation for the masses. Taxpayers, who are predominantly the general public, encompass a diverse population, emphasizing the collective benefit rather than catering solely to individual car owners.

      Kind of but it is not. See as full pledge brt u need dedicated lanes, boarding platform which edsa 'carousel' has but if you call brt it needs to have off board fare(uses cards as payments) and signalized intersection which edsa carousel has none

    • @julfinch
      @julfinch Před 22 dny

      Sorry to tell you this but the EDSA Carousel in Metro Manila isn’t a true Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. While it does have dedicated lanes, the key distinction lies in the “Operations & Management” aspect. BRT systems typically feature efficient management practices, such as pre-paid fare collection, level boarding, and synchronized traffic signals.
      As for the Cebu BRT, its Operations & Management will soon be bidded out. Once Package 1 is completed, the Cebu Interim Bus will take over the segregated lanes while waiting for the O&M. In the absence of O&M, Cebu Interim Bus running in the segregated lanes is basically functioning like EDSA Carousel.

For the information of the promdi from Cebu, the daily ridership of the existing LRT 1, LRT 2 and MRT 3 EXCEEDS 500,000 metro Manilans. Yearly, the mass rail system carries more than the entire population of the Philippines. The Manila subway which will be the country's first with 32 kilometers of subway line and 17 stations is expected to be fully operational by 2029. Estimated daily ridership is 300,000 Metro Manilans.
