Monastery of Panagia Elona, Kosmas

The monastery of Panagias Elonas is located on the slope of Parnonas since the 14th century. According to tradition, the icon of Panagia Vrefocratousa was found here and the first two monks settled in to protect it. In the Ottoman Empire, the area acquired a reputation due to a tale about the icon's power. This fact enabled the area to flourish economically and support the surrounding area and the battles, which took place during that period. The echo of this thriving period can be observed by the visitors to this very day.
