Xiaomi Electric Scooter E1 Motor Error Fix

  • This scooter gave me an E1 error message. All that I could find online is that it was a motor failure. I do not have any sort of warranty on this scooter so I decided to open it up and see if I could fix it, otherwise I be at a few hundred dollar loss :(. This message can display for many reasons but ultimately the motor has failed or something is seriously effecting the motor. In my case the nut that holds the wheel in place loosened and caused the wire harness to twist and break. This video shows the process I used to repair the scooter. I have never worked on a scooter before but decided to give it a shot ... it was well worth it!
    I'm not exactly sure if this is the scooter model, but the components are the same.

    Hi there. Just wanted to stop in to let you know that your video is still helping people to this very day. Had a bad wipeout this afternoon. The concrete ate right through the wires right in the same place as yours, while your method of fixing it was a little different, It was still successful. Lifesaver, I could find no other videos about repair for my particular scooter. Mines was a hiboy s2 pro, just got at Christmas. Once again props to you sir!

    I have a kugoo M4 that I’ve loved using. I have crashed it a few times and got the error 1 code during a normal journey. I saw this video a few days ago and it has encouraged me to give it a try because nobody near me seems to do repairs. I’ve never done anything mechanical like this at all, it’s your comment at the end of the video saying you haven’t ever messed with scooters before that has given me the hopes that I might be able to fix it after all :)
    My soldering kit arrived today, I’m going to open it up in the next few hours and hope I find the source of the problem/manage to repair it :)

    Absolutely top-notch repair...considering you knew nothing about E-Scooters beforehand. Makes the repair even more impressive. Like you (or were? :P), I am new to E-Scooters. But, I took onboard a repair of one though, just to impress its owner - young and gorgeous mum of three! (I know, a silly idea.) I knew everything would be on the internet, especially CZcams. But, after painstakingly getting all the error codes for a HitWay (or Evercross) H5, I delved into faultfinding. I was getting an E-010 error (LCD Tx comms) at first, then after messing with the wiring loom entirely (buzz testing with continuity meter), I am now getting a E-001 error. Then I saw your video and it confirmed to me that the cable entering the hub, like yours, was twisted and damaged. So, I'll venture into the motor hub and see what's what? I'll also test that the three Hall sensors are working correctly (I saw demonstrated on CZcams with a magnet). I'll let you know how I get on.

      Its just like anything in life. You just have to TRY! If you don't try you will never know. If you are hands on, and get enjoyment out of working on things it will be worth the trouble. Honestly, I made this video thinking it would be a waste of time but it seems to be my most watched video, and most commented video. I'm glad to know you got some use out of it, let me know how your repair goes! Take care.

    Great Video Brother! I got a Hover 1 journey and had the same code. Removed the deck and started playing with wires. No obvious damage spotted, but when i disconnect the battery from the controller no codes, as soon as the hub rotates... E1 code. Its midnight now, so tomorrow's another day. After work i plan on opening the Hub housing and checking the wires. Funny enough when i removed the cheap plastic guards from the forks the bolt holding the hub fell off.... still no obvious damage to the wiring... So i assume its internal, gonna have tomorrow breaking it down and figuring this mess out lol. I got in the scooter for $40 from amazon after a 56% off sale and $150 gift card for credit approval. If i can manage another 5 months gas free commuting ill be a happy man. Again. Great video, Cheers!

      @@flipchipsjb I’m not exactly sure. This is what I found online “This means “Abnormal hall signal from motor”. In the vast majority of cases, it is the motor cable that needs to be re-connected. ... 1- Unplug the motor extension cable both from the motor and controller”
      I would open it up to insure all the proper connections are still connected. Perhaps a solder came loose.

    Awesome vid, just what I needed. I have an escooter (different type than the xiomi but same principles) that also got the wires damaged just above the end of the centerbolt of the motorwheel. This video helped me understand what to expect. I opened up the motor to see if I could replace the wirebundle, but it was impossible, In my case there are only three (3) thick wires, no hall sensors. No idea how the controller knows the speed. All three were seriously damaged at the entry point to the bolt. There was no connection pcb inside, the main wires were connected directly to the windings. So, unlike in your video at 3:17 I tried to splice new wires onto clipped-off ends just above the bolt. And then some good heatshrink around it. It looked good, no shorts. But unfortunately when I put everything back together (and connected the spliced wires to the main wires from the controller) it did not work. The motor does not spin, and when I give it some turns with my hand and apply power via the controller there is some bonking sound. The wheel turns well without friction in its ball bearings so that is all ok. No idea what do next. I don't want to throw a 800 us$ escooter that is only one year old in the bin. I doubt that anything else is broken, but of course it may be, I had a little rough beating before it stopped working. Maybe there is a hall sensor somewhere else that I haven't found that is dead? I don't see any 'unknown' cables going out anywhere.

    • @makeitworkdiy3768
      @makeitworkdiy3768  Před 3 lety

      Yeah just out of curiosity I later opened up where the battery stores just underneath where I stand, and I found a plethora of wires. Take a look on yours, especially if you had a little wreck or something. I felt the same way about not wanting to throw a perfectly good scooter away. At least you took a chance to try, but don't give up, maybe take another look!

    • @lenny4d
      @lenny4d Před 2 lety

      @@makeitworkdiy3768 Thanks for the support. The bonking sound in the motor must be a somewhat loose magnet, I can't think of anything else. But repairing/refixing magnets sucks :( Yes, I made my way to the controller too, a massive amount of connectors, I could not find so quickly the best matching controller on the net, but it is reasonably obvious on what is what. I might open it to see if one or more of the FETs has blown too. Because when the motor wires get shorted something probably gives. I read a good discussion on the pedelecs.co.uk forum on havoc after a short circuit between phase wires, so that was also useful. As the phasewire splice/fix I made is not great I can't say I am overly excited by the prospects though.

    Was watching your video with interest. My son bought a used reconditioned E scooter a few weeks ago. Firstly he found the battery only lasted an hour but that was because I think he was riding on fast speed. Then the rear wheel nut came loose and fell off. I had to get a replacement from the seller. Now he gets an Error code 1 on scooter. He says the other nut came loose and the wire cover wore away, he said it became twisted. So I've been looking for answers. I've tightened nuts but it's still the same. Taped round the wire .I now feel I need to open wheel up to see. Would help if I have a soldering iron. It's kind of frustrating.

      @makeitworkdiy3768  Před 2 lety +1

      Most likely I would assume where the wire got twisted they may have also got damaged. You don’t have to solder them, although that would be the best permanent Method. If you can repair the wire without opening the wheel that would be ideal. But in my case I needed to open the wheel to repair.

    hey there I had a similar problem but with my Xiaomi Pro 2 the same thing happened with my motor but the situation was way worse... I speculate that the nut got loose as well since the wires wrapped around the motor but the thing is that somehow the motor still managed to drive (this happened while I was riding it) while I was riding the scooter not knowing what is happening to the motor I soon noticed that there was smoke leaking out of the motor when I touched the motor it was extremely hot luckily I was 2 houses away from my house so I grabbed the scooter and ran to my garage and quickly started to take the motor off as fast as I could when I eventually took it off and unscrewed the plate holding the motor together the entire motor was literally on fire so I grabbed onto my bottle of water and washed it down until it was all gone at that moment I noticed the wires were all twisted just like yours and that's how I knew it had something to do with that but anyway I took the entire motor off and replaced it with a new one that was the worst day off my life! I thought my scooter wouldn't survive that day and thank god I was near my house because god knows what would have happened if I was somewhere else in the public... but yeah this happened 4 months ago and I live in the UK so I still wander what the police would do to me if this happened in a public area since they are still illegal for now in the UK

    You should put your camera closer to the motor and do not accelerate the video....... I cannot watch what you were doing

      If go in the settings on playback speed you can slow the video down. I figured I didn’t want to waste too much time showing every detail knowing that everyone will have different scooters, so I zoomed through somethings. I’m actually very surprised how much attention this video got. Otherwise I probably would have tried to get some better shots. Thanks for checking it out.
