    Thank you thank you for this video! My fingers, hands, ankles, feet and shins look like I was shot with buckshot! I’m going to immediately start applying these techniques! I have already discovered that when my puppy wants to see whats on the table or counter, she bites my legs until I pick her up! I’ve got to get on top of this NOW! Thank you sooo much!

      Take your doggo out every hour on the hour I did that with my first two dogs as they grew. They had zero accidents in the house. Each time they do their business outside give them a treat. I also don’t give my puppy water two hours before her bedtime. To reduce me havung to wake up in the middle of the night to let her out of the crate

    I wish so badly that the live chat replay was available to see the feedback. I hope this video helps my family. According to this video we're not being firm enough at the right times and dealing with bad behavior. We're making a lot of mistakes that are reinforcing it harder as she grows. She's teething hard and we are understanding of the pain, but there's many times that it's outright bad behavior such as lunging and paw slamming playing you can't catch me while snarling and barking obnoxiously. Charlee is a 5 months old golden mix that looks like a brindle plot hound. We've had her for one month. Often you almost can't touch her without her biting you or your clothing.

    Thank you so very much for this information! I have a “walk-on “ Blue pointer that some dumped near my farm. She was about two months according to my vet when I first got her. She is a good little pet and sweet right away. She had some infection but has healed.
    I have been training her , however with mistakes.
    I have learned from this video and immediately had success after correcting my own errors.
    It has given me confidence and she is more confident with me.
    I’m older and recently lost my husband. She is the best opportunity for me to focus on something positive and learning a new skill. She not nipping and biting. Amazing!
    Flora is quickly becoming my new best friend.

    I have a very tiny dog with a propensity for trachea injuries. Collars are not recommended. However, her size does not stop her from biting, using her front paws and legs to get her way. She is the most difficult puppy I've ever encountered. She is a Biewer Terrier. She is a teacup 6 months, three pounds. Although I do not allow her to pull my hair it is something she will attempt to do at any opportunity. Instead of pulling away from her double rows of teeth.

    Thank you so much. I watched your shorter video on this technique and tried it on my 10 week old Japanese Chin. She's so fluffy, I thought her collar was on properly but couldn't tell and it was too loose and she ended up flipping around barking and lunging and biting at me and I didn't know what to do. She won that battle, and I'm certain she doesn't respect me, but I'm going to try again if she gets bitey as this video has given me the confidence to know what to do in all cases.
    I can't thank you enough!

    13:30 2nd day with an 8 month old border collie mix that was picked up as a stray. 10 lbs under weight but after a full day of sleep and feeling safe and getting decent food her energy level shot up and puppy biting showed up. On the 1st day, no mouthing or biting even when I was hand feeding. No chewing on stuff.
    Now, she's trying to explore everything with her mouth (no idea if she's been indoors before). She's a very strong chewer but her "play" bites on me are gentle. I say play bites because it's the biting dogs will do with other dogs. However, in this day and age no amount of teeth are acceptable and the last thing I want is someone trying to pet her and her trying to play through the little bites. I also don't want her deciding things are toys (shoes, furniture) that aren't toys.
    Vet said all her baby teeth are out. But she'll still go for sticks and rocks outside. Those are things dogs will pick up to knock out their baby teeth. I suspect there's several things driving the biting including a comfort effect of having felt better when teething, wanting to engage in play and not knowing how else to express it, naturally high energy that's difficult to wind down even after exercising and light training, along with trying to see if this new "pack leader" will be dominant and address her behavior with a correction (the way dogs instinctively would).
    So far, she's fairly sociable with people and has sniffed or licked when being pet but not bitten at all and behaves neutrally if I give her leash to someone else. I have no idea what her history is. She is timid around other dogs and sudden movement or loud noise (from objects, cars, gates, shadows) will send her ears back in fear. Ironically, if a person moves quickly, she'll go into alert or want to play (maybe the herding instinct).
    So I'm trying to balance between the dog feeling safe with a brand new person and new environment with trying to encourage good behavior and prevent bad behavior from taking root.
    And I'm watching videos to see how to stimulate this intelligent but cracked out breed in a productive way. It's been over 15 years since my sheltie passed and I got him at 10 (lived to 20). So, I didn't do the puppy stage with him. So far, the puppy biting and mouth exploring is the only thing I can complain about. Super sweet dog, smarter than a lot of people, isn't a barker, and sociable if a bit submissive.

    Rescue dog owner here. My current dog is an "adult" at 1yr old. He is an unsocialised large breed puppy. Nipping is playing. You have good points, but I can't spend a whole freaking HOUR trying to pick & parse out the tidbits that help my dog.
    Plot twist #1, he is an easy case compared to my last rescue (God I miss her).
    Plot twist #2, both dogs are Standard Poodles. Big, strong, stubborn & smart.
    Not a dog for novices.

  • @BrianWestlakes
    @BrianWestlakes Před 3 dny

    Heeler's genetics were selected for nipping. They drive cattle by zipping in and nipping at the heels of big cows and bulls. The herding instinct will always be strong with them, as will the innate tendency to nip to show assertiveness. But they're brilliant dogs, and can easily be trained not to do it. What they want most of all is to be with you on whatever adventure you're on, to have a chance to run hard, and to make you happy. As soon as they learn you don't like it when they nip, they stop. Unless they're just being cheeky and wilful, which is possible.

  • @marianam8643
    @marianam8643 Před 13 dny +1

    I have had 3 puppies and they all bit, not mouthed, but bit down, so it hurt. What worked for me is i try to be as assertive as possible (ignoring how cute they are), I grab their little snout quickly, to startle them, and I gently but firmly bite their nose (gently, but they feel it). I then let them go, quickly and turn away. No petting, no interaction. After about 3 times, they stop. Most people don’t bite their dog back :):), but I found that this works really well. Their mother is not a toy, and neither am I.

    Just recently adopted a new Labradoodle puppy into our home which already had a one year old mini Aussie. This puppy is so much bigger than the other dog and plays with a lot of biting. Do I need to be concerned? Can they play with biting themselves each other? I don’t want this to continue until the bigger dog eventually hurts the little dog and that’s my concern.
