If I didn't already have the new 56mm and the 90mm I'd be seriously considering this one as a portrait staple. Every time I've used the new 56 on the X-T5 I've been pleased with the results, but you definitely pay for that. I'm glad to see Viltrox improving the baseline quality of their lenses so rapidly. I'm really eager for some Sigma Art lenses to show up for X-mount. I've adapted the 18-35 for Canon with an electronic mount and it works great. I think Sigma bringing their 50-100 1.8 over could give the Fuji 50-140 a run for its money as well.

There have been some great deals recently on used XF56mm V1.0 lenses. I was lucky enough to have bought a barely used XF56 v1.0 for less than this 75mm. While the V1.0 56 has it's AF issues, I couldn't turn it down for the price. And, I just love it!!! But, for someone looking for a new portrait lens with f1.2 performance, this is a great choice. Have a great weekend!

My favorite lenses for portraiture was the 50-150 then the 90mm f2. But I almost never used the 90mm. Going to sell the 90 and get the Viltrox. Amazing price/performance. No wonder Canon doesn't want 3rd party on their platform.

I was agonising over a complement to my 35mm f/1.4 for portraits. 56mm was too close - didn’t want to get confused which one to use. 90mm is a bit too compressed/flat/voyeuristic. I think this is the answer just because of focal length alone. F/1.2 is a bonus. Weight and MFD are drawbacks but nothing is perfect - the price is a huge plus!

@@alonzowigfall190 I went for the 90mm in the end but sold it because it was a little heavy for my liking and left me too far from the subject. My next lenses will be the 23mm f1.4 and 50mm f1. I still prefer native lenses for whatever reason. There must be some catch to those Viltrox lenses - autofocus? Long term build quality? And harder to colour match to Fuji lenses

Good review, thanks! I’m in two minds between this one and Fuji’s 90mm f/2. Pro Viltrox: f/1.2, at 75mm slightly more versatile, sharpness, price. Pro Fuji: lighter, better AF, sharpness (also) rounded bokeh balls (instead of cat’s eyes), much shorter minimum focus distance.

@@Reggiebphoto the kind of dramatic/cinematic synth pop intro through the lens name card was cool, the subsequent photo montage/music combo was great too. Right away you teased us with what the lens could do but didn't give us too much, then you went into detail in the different sections of the video. There's a good balance between talking head, product shots, sample images, and clearly titled/logically organized review sections (and the comparisons, as I said above). I also really enjoy it when you include personal photos. Not that your wedding photos aren't great, but the spontaneous photos of your family or whatever caught your eye while you were out living life really communicate the joy of photography. At least that's how it feels to me.

You are such a photographed buddy 🥰 what a lens!
I have never bought a first hand lens ever, and I am 8 years into photography, and have quite many lenses, some of them vintage Like the Helios 44-M4, or Takumar 55mm 1.8, and even Nikon E Series 55mm 1.8 pancacke, this lens works so well with Fujifilm, and it's dearty cheap. Is the "economy" version Nikon did for a while, I should do a video about that. I used that to portrait my partner breastfeeding our daughter (and second child). In 17 of this February, we will go to the hospital to remove the breast for cancer. Hopefully, she doens't event has to take radiotheraphy, it vas very early, but we are still on allert 🚨
I already have a Viltrox, the 56mm 1.4, it was in my budget range, and not using it much, but when I do I like it. But I have an issue with it: the tint on Lightroom gets confused when I shoot with that lens, so everihing is too purple, and I have to match all those pictures, with all the other ones taken with Fujifilm lenses, for which's raw files on Lightroom look much more warmer colored.
It's like having two cameras with two different sensors. A combination I had between the X-T3, and the Nikon D7200, just in the middle of my transictioning to Fuji. Now I don't have the Nikon, but I do have an X-E4 and I love it so, so, so so much. So light, so powerful camera. Amazing. I use it for weddings, even if it doesn't have two cards slot. Out of the budget to have yet another camera 😆 But the X-T3 with a 55-200mm and the X-E4 with the 18-55mm, perfect low budget combo for outdoors celebrations 🥰 And then the Fujifilm 35mm 1.4, his lens has some crazy magic on it ⭐ I recently got the 27mm 2.8 pancacke, and it's just incredible lens, some say Fuji sharpest lens. Maybe not compared to the new generation lenses 😅
    Love, love, love!!! 💚💚💚

Reggie, given your style of shooting, which would you prefer in your wedding kit, the Viltrox 75 f1.2 or the Fuji 50 f1. I currently own the Fuji and love its character but I am wondering if a little extra compression and working distance would serve me if I were to sell it for the 75. I mostly would use it for low light indoors for music shows but would also do the occasional portrait here and there. Thank you, love your work, man!

Did anyone notice this lens has aperture issues - somewhere between 9-16 it often incorrectly opens the aperture and for instance f14 is brighter (bigger whole) then f13 and there is no difference between f9 and f10 (aperture doesn’t change at all.
I know 99% of users value this lens for its superb quality at f1.2 but it is definitely the issue confirmed by the Viltox distributor and none of the firmware updates so far didn’t solve it.

the 75 could be a solution for someone who doesnt want to have a 56 and a 90. The Sigma 56 1.4 is also to consider. The 56 1.2 wr is really nice in terms of weight, and the minimal focus distance, allows to have a lot of bokeh as well

I might be leaning towards the Sigma 56 myself. Don’t get me wrong, this 75 seems immensely good. Near perfect optics, although the AF needs more torque and the MFD is a tad long. But I don’t need a dedicated portrait lens enough to justify the size. Better MFD would have made a huge difference to me personally, but the Sigma 56 is nice and small, and seems like it would be a better fit for my needs and with the OVF of the X-Pro3.

@@Tomoldchannel Minimum focus distance. At 88cm, that makes this lens less versatile for shooting close details when walking around. A lot of fast tele primes with similar focal lengths can focus down to 60 or 70cm, which would be really handy. Still seems phenomenal for portraits, and an amazing value.

It’s not necessarily an issue with the focal length. That’s just how the focal length is. Some people need the reach or have the room.

@@Reggiebphoto Yeah in bigger places and bigger venues it’s a good lens. But say in a party environment or a nice small environment it’s not ideal sitting whether to get this lens or not based on my needs and it would have some uses but also would be limited to how I can use it.
