MIR LEBN EYBIK - We’ll live forever - is a powerful song, originally from the ghetto in Vilna, with a message that’s once again current. With this song Louisa Lyne & di Yiddishe Kapelye call for humanity and respect in our dark time of growing xenophobia.
    Text: Leyb Rozental

It is 2023! Today more than ever, hold onto these lyrics ! ( written by my Uncle Leyb Rozental in the Vilna Ghetto)
This song was written by my Uncle Leyb Rozental in the Vilna Ghetto! He was murdered at concentration camp Klooga just two days before liberation. He always believed we, his people, will survive…. we are still here. Hold on to these lyrics! Ever more poignant again !
MIR LEYBN EYBEK - WE LIVE FOREVER- By Leyb Rosenthal
We live forever - the world's ablaze
We live forever -without money these days
We'll show the enemy we won't play their game
And we will not hide our faces in shame
We live forever - here we all are
We live forever - in every hour
We want to live and to survive
Bad times we'll overcome and thrive
    We live forever -
    We are (still) here -
    Mir zaynen doh!

    The world may smolder,
    But we will endure
    Despite our foes
    Who crave our destruction.

    The season, the hour,

Over the years, I've come back to this many times. It's always moving. Brilliant presentation of this song. You will also enjoy it by the niece of Leyb Rozental, the poet who wrote it. He was murdered by the Nazis one day before liberation. But his sister Chayele, the first performer of the song (in the Vilna Ghetto), survived. Her daughter Zola sings this as the living proof of the song. Link: czcams.com/video/WeISmkLOT4o/video.html

@René Dupont what the f**ck is wrong with you? You are talking down every piece of Yiddish music on youtube not sung or played by some stone old Jews. I'm happy this music is available to me here so I can find an entry into this kind of music and the culture. I sincerely learned to miss the Yiddish culture during my daily life in Germany. Sure one wishes to preserve the language and culture like it has been before but treating it like a fragile thing and forbid everyone younger than the state of Israel to sing the songs won't help either, its not latin; Yiddish is still alive! At least I hope...

The singer has a beautiful voice and is undoubtedly well-intentioned; her message is praiseworthy. However, she has a foreign accent which a Yiddish-speaker from the "old country" notices. This can be heard, for example, in the word LEBN, which she mispronounces and it clashes with the pronunciation of other words in the song. Jeg haaper ogsaa at det skjönne jiddiske spraak, mitt morsmaal, skal leve evig.

    • @KeshetAylonit
      @KeshetAylonit Před 8 lety +2

Unless someone is a native speaker, it works damn hard to get rid of their native accent, the pronunciation is going to be different. Not to mention Yiddish has different accents itself from all over Eastern Europe. How about you take this beautifully done song, music video and message at its surface. Don't nitpick details. My grandmothers first language was Yiddish, and she can't even speak it anymore. I doubt that her pronunciation would be as good as it was then if she began to relearn. This is a powerful song, and we should be proud that she is standing up for our people, not giving unnecessary criticism.

+Louisa Lyne Mange takk for din kommentar. Vi maa verne og fremme jiddisch paa alle mulige maater. Jeg leser og forstaar norsk
(bokmaal og nynorsk) og svensk. Jeg var medlem av Nordmennenes
Sangforening i Brooklyn, da jeg bodde i New York. Vi sang paa norsk, svensk og engelsk. Jeg synger selvfölgelig ogsaa paa jiddisch. I have years of experience in teaching Yiddish on the university level in the United States as well as in France. For many years I was a journalist in Yiddish with articles published in the Yiddish press in America, Israel and France. I have devoted decades to researching the language and collecting its rich and varied phraseology. I am one of the last Yiddish linguists for whom Yiddish is a mother tongue.

Musikalisch sehr schön. Aber es bleibt ein Nachgeschmack, wenn keiner ein echter Jude ist. Wo sind die ewig lebenden Juden? Where are the living-forever-Jews? Not in this video, and while it is musically beautiful, it still doesn't taste good. The Jiddish isn't right...

@@justinstewart3012 the truly very heavy accent. It's like when a german speaks english, or an American speaks german without having learned it as a kid. Which in itself wouldn't be bad, but if the song is called "we shall live forever" and (especially given the Jewish history) there is not one jew to sing it - it's somehow weird, I think...
