Everytime a champion loses. All of a sudden people think the person is/was never as good as people say. Sad how people switch. Including journalist. It will be short. UFC will let Shevchenko become a double champ. She cleaned out 125 completely. She destroyed Pena in their last fight. Valentina has greatly improved wrestling and BJJ. She was barely skilled on the ground when she subbed Juliana.

Once I became familiar with, and starting watching Juliana train and fight, I felt her fire. Others who have fought against Nunes, from the jump were intimidated and allowed her to bully them. I was watching the fight with some friends and we were discussing how Amanda calls herself the lioness, but that night Juliana was the Lioness, a predator, the hunter and stalker, and she reduced Amanda to a cowering hyena. . .her prey.
She took that fight to Amanda, and Amanda did not know how to respond, and adjust to a fighting style she herself utilizes. I can't remember who said this, but it seems to be accurate. "A fighters worst opponent, is themselves," and I think Amanda showed us that.

In terms of upsets, Serra vs GSP will always be number 1. Serra was 9-4 coming off of The Ultimate Fighter, unranked and had no knockouts in his career. Literally NO ONE had even heard of this guy outside of his involvement in TUF. He went in the octagon with arguably the greatest welterweight of all time (keep in mind, this was GSP's first title defense) and he scored his very first KO over GSP to become champion. Serra was 5'6 inches tall compared to GSP's 5'10 and GSP had a SEVEN inch reach advantage over Serra (76 vs 69). What Serra accomplished was absolutely bonkers and to this day, many people still scratch their heads over how he was able to do it. He had never been on a main card let alone the amount of pressure he felt being in a championship fight. Pena on the other hand has been in this game for years, has been ranked for years, has trained specifically for this fight for years if it ever happened. She was prepared, both physically and mentally. Her upset over Nunes will go down as one of the greatest but it will never top Serra vs GSP.

I thought a fully conditioned Amanda would absolutely maul Pena for the full fight instead of just the first then get tired and I maintain that. The people that can't see that Pena was completely outclassed r1 before Nunes got uncharacteristically tired in r2 are delusional.

I have to say, I am SO confused, did we all watch the same fight? Peña says, “i had her in trouble in round 1” say what? She got rocked 2 times and dominated on the ground. At 6:23 Ariel says, “it was clear you were winning the first” WHAT?!

    • @marioguerra3949

Pena did have her arm in the first round and Nunes had to exert herself to prevent being submitted. Nunes remained in the same position on top for awhile because she was protecting her arm. And that's why Nunes decided to stand in the second round. Despite that Pena clearly lost the first round. Ariel probably didn't realize what he was saying.

I feel so happy for her she deserves it I am still upset that people consider this a upset it was never an Upset when you look at her skills she possesses

Julianna has this naive, pure and innocent grit that I first noticed during the Ultimate Fighter. And her grappling was strong for those early days. Thought she could have been a good challenge to Ronda after Meisha lost the 2nd time. Then she gets injured and beats cat zingano and I thought she could beat Amanda. Then she becomes mother and takes 2 and half years off to come back and lose to shevchecko and Germaine and I'm like she's done. she's only fighting like once a year now. Gets back and beats Sarah mcmann and out of nowhere get matched up with Amanda. and I thought she was going to get destroyed just like Katter did against Max, cause I knew she had hart. And then this surprise!
just like Nate did against Conor where she/he got beat in the first round and faces fire with fire in the second round and drops Conor and then chokes out Nunes.
Hence she's say during the the Rogan interview: I'm not surprised mother fuckas

That last round looked like Juliana had nearly knocked out Amanda, who feeling the end coming gave up her back for a fast submission. Standing it was all Juliana connecting. This fight was moments from a standing KO. At least from my view of the last round.
