The 2006 Harley-Davidson Dyna Models Escaped the Laboratory

- The 2006 Harley-Davidson Dyna line is one of the strangest years of Dyna's Harley-Davidson ever produced. Harley-Davidson broke all the rules and almost completely updated a model line before the touring line. The 2006 Dyna models are truly unique as they retained the Twin Cam 88 but received the 6 speed Cruise Drive transmission. Now if you're the owner of a 2006 Dyna and you want to find some performance parts, let's just say it can be interesting as it seems like nothing fits your 2006 model Dyna. Well you're not crazy, your motorcycle isn't junk, it's just misunderstood. The 2006 Dyna may have a Twin Cam 88, but this Twin Cam 88 is nothing like the 1999 to 2005 design or like the engine in anything else outside the Dyna line for 2006.

Do you own a 2006 Dyna and experienced trouble finding the correct parts for your engine?
Thanks for the info, was always wondering about that. 🤔
I own a 35th Anniversary model and am struggling to find a blonde big bore kit. Can I run 96” jugs?
95 big bore on the 2006 fxdbi gave me 86hp/93tq, stock heads. Its not even close to a stock 96”.
Love mine. I had it so long that I know how to find the right parts My bike is solid also.
You could go to the stealership and order the kit, or send them to a reputable shop like hammer performance, for example. They can punch them out to a 95. They also have kits. I'm sending mine to my indy shop this winter and ill be running the screaming eagle flat top cast pistons. Hope this helps.@jasontackett4836
It was just dumb luck that led me to purchase my ‘06 FXDWGI last year and I would never have realized all the differences it has compared to earlier 88s without listening to you GixxerFoo. I liked its looks and the fact that it was fuel injected, but I wasn’t aware of the cam chain tensioner problems with the earlier TC 88s or that the ‘06 Dyna had hydraulic tensioners. This just reinforces the old adage that even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then.
I Heard that fuel Injection is still good, somehow it got a bad rap.
@@georgeboduch6015, it seems to work well on my Wide Glide. It starts well in all temps and seems to run very well, but I know that if it goes belly up on the road there’s no cobbling it back together to get home like you often could with a carburetor.
@@georgeboduch6015 The early production 06 twin cam had problems with the fuel injectors. Mid year they changed them to a different style. I had to replace mine not under warranty. It runs much better with the newer ones no stumbling mid throttle.
I have a '06 dyna super-glide. I have to say I've had 3 shovels, a few evos and now this and let me tell ya, it's totally stock even the mufflers and it flat out hauls the mail !......(and me too)
Are we just experimenting with sounds to replace the fart at the end of the video? Bring back the fart ✊🏽
I miss the fart too🤣
Yeah, bring back the fart!
😂
Fart ✊ Fart ✊ Fart ✊ Fart ✊ Fart ✊
And the shelf
I worked with a guy who had in 2006 Dyna wide glide with the 1550 cylinders and pistons and Screamin eagle 203 cams and it was a terrific running bike
I owned an '06 FXWDG since new and loved this bike. Sold it last summer when I got a new Road Glide which is a great bike. Will always have a hole in my heart for the Wide Glide.
I never owned one, but always loved the Dyna, especially the Wide Glide!
Morning GixxerFoo, it's Saturday 6:20am here in Australia 🇦🇺.
Love your work💪💪💪
Living The F🤪KING Dream ❗
Safe travels 🙏♥️🐾🐾🇦🇺
You need to remember that the 39mm fork tubes is what created the fx super glide in the first place. I put a Dark horse 07 crank in my 35th anniversary super glide. Believe me when I say she just wants to run.
Oh I imagine that bike scoots!
@@GixxerFoo Yes it does. It does not like slow areas.
Love my 06 Dyna Low Rider. TC 88
I was turning my buddy on to your channel Telling him how knowledgeable you are on all things Harley and even dumb old me can understand when you explain we watched and I was telling him at the end of your videos there is a fart. we waited and no fart.I had to show him another video to show him I was not lying. Still enjoying my Woods 222 cam on my 103 ci Dyna Low Rider
I’ll be darned.Never knew that fart was there.Till now.
My neighbor has a 06 Dyna. He got a great deal on it from a private party. It runs so good 👍
I recently bought an 06 FDL35 thats been sitting 15 years. Its my next project after I finish my Ironhead.
I can’t tell you how much I appreciated that info I did not know that about the 2006 Dyna’s. Now I want to go buy one lol.
Like the 1979 Sporter.
*fits everything else on earth, but the 1979 Sportster.
I know, opinions vary but the dyna platform in my opinion had its best years around this era. So much that I sought out to find my bike, a 2007 Dyna Lowrider. I was patient, it took me a year to find but I got a pacific blue pearl Lowrider with the 96 twin cam with the blue and silver winged tank emblems. Exactly what I wanted. Something about that time was just awesome to me, Harley’s just felt different up to around 2014.
Like always great information. Everybody ride safe and stay in the wind!
The suede blue and vivid black low rider in the video is just like my 07.
😎👍
Big thumbs up for the channel...
My first Harley was 06 low ride ! Miss that bike that 88 motor was great and it was the first year of fuel injection for that year. Love my touring model HD though hard to beat for comfort
I just got an 06 FXD35 for a project bike. Thanks for all the info
YES!
I have an 06 wide glide and an 06 street bob. Love em both and they have been super reliable.
Another Excellent Video,Thanks Man!
Excellent content....very informative, thanks
I loved my 88 but when I got offered a Stage 5 Tire Shredder 110 that was on a 2012 Road Glide I HAD to swap it over. Bike is a BEAST now!
Good content...Carry on...love the twin cam stuff..
I like the carbed Twin Cams actually over the fuel injection. I think it sounds better because you have that more lopey, choppy idle, and it is possible to get a little more hp in the carbed Twin Cams than the Fuel Injection. Fuel Injection I know its smooter no flat spots, etc though. Nothing beats the sound of a built, Twin Cam motor, with a lopey cam, a well tuned carb, and the right set of pipes!
I missed buying a 1985 H-D FXRP. It had 18,500.0 miles on it with the bullet nose fairing. Very cool looking motorcycle that sold for $4,500.00 Canadian funds.
The only differences between the 2006 dyna 88 and the 2007 dyna 96 are the crank (as you mentioned) but also the pistons. The pistons have the pins in a different location to allow for the shorter crank throw geometry. The 2006 dyna has the same pistons as the earlier 88. The pistons have different part numbers.
That's a really good point for when they went over to that 96! That 2006 Dyna was quite unique and that's something Harley normally does to the touring bikes first.
Really like your videos 👍
Another great vid m8.
Hope to see a fxdx and t sport one soon 😊
Awesome vlog
Great info 👍🏻
Awesome video man, happy to see your channel growing. In a nutshell, what be an affordable yet effective way to build out 2008 Dyna low rider 96” to make about 100 horsepower and 100 ft pounds of torque. My bike is is currently at a stage 1. Can be a quick reply. I know you can’t get to all comments. Thank you for your informative videos!
I believe he has a video going over 96” builds with dyno sheets
I currently have a 2006 ultra classic. Went from a 96 to a 110 with cams. I really hate that little narrow ass tire in the back compared to my 2013 streetglide the frame is not as solid as newer models after it. But boy does it vibrate like a old school Harley.
Yeah, the bigger tire is more attractive, but Harley riding Cops preferred the older Road Kings more than the newer ones. The skinner tire made it turn with lesser lean angles. Making it more agile for those chases!
I have an 06 Dyna. I haven't tried doing too many mechanical upgrades, but I have noticed that many parts are available through 2005, then 2007+ and skip '06.
Great video Gixx, why do you think HD tried new technology on Dyna models first?
Bring back the fart at the end bro!
Interesting information. 👍🏽🏍💨🏍💨
Make one about the 06 street glide differences! FI 96 with 5speeds
I'm looking into an 06 DWG in decent shape, Florida bike, if I can get it for $4k, it's my new bike. Great info bro! Newer bearings, cam plate, oil pump, and the 49mm fork tubes! Nice! ✌️
Spot on. Thanx bra.
Hi 👋, GIXXERFOO , I am sort of new to your work shop, I think you put out a great tutorial, explaining the ifs why’s and buts of matching components, I have had a 1999 1450cc Softail Deuce, which I had sell in 2019 , I had done the big bore kit to the 95 , I am hoping to get a other bike this year the same model, Deuce, is it better to buy more newer models or stay on the same line as the 1999/02 , especially as I would like to keep to the carburettor version, what is your opinion please , PHIL FROM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOULIN FRANCE.
I have a 06 dyna low rider. If possible can you discuss the primary bearing issue and factory recall (that didn't last too long). It seems the 07 had alignment pons in the case and the 06 did not. What bering replacement would be best? Thanks
Thanks for that info GF...that will come in handy if I decide to upgrade to a TC model motorcycle. You mentioned the 03' 103 was not the same as later models. Can you recommend what year 103 might be a better choice to buy?
The 2003 version was a bored and stroked motor. And only found in Screamin Eagle bikes (CVO)
I believe it’s 2012 or 13 when the actual 103 started.
Gxrfoo where can i find a chrome 2 inti 1 thunder header for my 03 dyna wideglide
It was really frustrating at first when all I saw was 99-2006 except dyna. Felt like I had the bastard HD. Then I woke up and looked into it more and my 2006 Dyna was a test bed for the 96 cu in upgrades.
You do have the bastard HD lol
RIP HD Inc, 1903-1999.
So In theory if you swap out the crank shaft for the 07 crank would that make your 88 into a 96 ? If that’s the only major difference ?
So I’m having a damn time finding a fuel management system the will work for my 06 superglide so could a guy buy a tuner with auto tune for a 07 and up dyna superglide with the 96ci and it still work or no?
I like the longer stroke 96
GixerFoo, I asked this in a comment on another one of your videos but I’ll repeat it here. What is the horsepower and/or torque limit for the stock Harley belt final drive on my ‘06 FXDWGI? Also, could you say something about the S&S Easy Start cams? I’ve been watching too many of your videos and have gotten the upgrade fever that I intend to satisfy with about a $3.5k investment right after the riding season next winter and I just want to make sure that the belt drive doesn’t become the weakest component.
When i think i know a lot of stupid crap about harley, you go and surprise me again! This was interesting, thanks!
I've only got a 96 inch Dyna!!!
what is needed to fix the transmission recall?????
Own an 88", 2006 Night Train, but has the 5 speed transmission. Does that make it less compatible with the 96"?
What about the 2006 Dyna 6 speed transmission problem ?
Did i get that right, big bore kit 2005 and before. Everything else 2007 and up?
I own a 2006 street bob, greetings from Germany ;-)
In the 06 Dyna the head had a bigger exhaust port that why it flowed better than 99 to 06 except for Dyna as far as valve train goes there is nothing new except for bee hive valve springs that actually started in 03 I believe . Some of the things you mentioned some of us will not agree with starter issues & 6 speed trans ( junk ) ! But I will agree to disagree !
What about parts for a 03 Heritage Softail Classic flstci,100 year anniversary? The dealer where I bought it will not work on bikes 06 and earlier, bunch of crap, btw,it has the 88 B motor
😎 info.
Forgot to add in a comments of the thunder header for the both Gree Dyna I am in California told you this would not be messy I can find black but I can't find Chrome you see This edition requires Chrome any thoughts or comments would be appreciated you seem to have knowledge
Comment for the algorithm
No more fart at the end
Farts gone😂😂😂😂
Didn't the 06 still have the piece of junk alternator?
I always n still do think the 39mm looks better. Especially when its done 2 over
So what you are saying is that they made 1 good Dyna line and all the rest have cheap Chinese parts that don't last, at least that's my experience with Dyna's from 07 to 17, probably also why Harley discontinued the Line, they couldn't make a profit on the line because Harley wanted to sell high for shit bikes and word got around.
2006 was an anomaly in the Dyna line, it's one of the best 88 inch motors ever made if you ask me.
No more fart gix whyyyyyyyy
The 06 Dyna 96 motor is the same motor that is in the 07 and newer twin cam Dyna and touring models it is not a modified 88 all engine components 06 and newer Dyna and 07 and newer touring are the same the 06 does not have a different stroke then the 07
06 dyna didn't come with the 96, it was an 88 with hydrolic cam tensions with a 6 speed
