- The new Squier Paranormal Rascal HH bass is one of the coolest instruments I've seen from Squier thus far! I knew the moment I saw this beautiful Sherwood Green model that I had to have one. Here are some quick, first thoughts I had about the bass right after opening it!

Squiers are awesome but when they get to auesome they stop production dont want them being to good because then you would never need to buy a fender 😂
I walked into a GC to buy a different bass. Didn't think these were in stores yet. But to my surprise it was and I did😂

@@loocorez0 I'm a newbie first off so take it as you will. Feels good. Strings are a little high but definitely playable. I was actually looking at the Epiphone Embassy and they are very comparable. So back to the SPR feels good and sounds good. I traded two lower end basses in at the same time so I got 10% off so I paid $409 - the trade value. The Epiphone Embassy sounds a little brighter but that's about it .
That color is gorgeous! Squier has been knocking it out of the park here lately!

I've bought a couple of Squires (a 40th anniversary Jazzmaster and a Starcaster) in the last year and I can't believe how nice they are. This looks awesome--thank you for this review. I'm probably going to get one.
I almost bought a 40th anniversary Jazzmaster after I played one - the quality has stepped up so much in the last 5-10 years!
The bridge is from the fender jmj rw mustang bass, and yes, that's the Coronado headstock.
I’m definitely looking seriously at getting one of these, they look lovely, I’m not sure about the Shell Pink variant that’s just been released. I will definitely scotchbrite the neck like I did with my 40th Anniversary Jazzmaster and I’ll be going for flatwounds.
It's got a tone and a vibe. Would love to get one of these...

That neck pickup sounds great to me!
It really is - it's pretty thick too. It's not going to stand out in the mix but I think it'll fill some space!

It sounds awesome Phillip, I look forward to hear how the humbucker sounds with distortion when you make the future videos with it.
I've tinkered with a couple fuzzes and distortions so far and had mixed results but that's not really surprising with bass. I haven't exactly bought the most "bass appropriate" pedals being that I'm primarily a guitarist :D
@@40WattPodcast oh same, my board is mostly guitar focused so the only effects I usually put on bass is delay and chorus usually.

I would pick one up if the bridge were farther back. It definitely has that vintage vibe. I have a Mustang bass and a G&L Fallout so don't really need another shorty. Thanks for the great demo!

Those pickups are from a squier vintage modified telecaster bass that they don't make anymore. Except it says fender on the pup instead of suier. And the bridge is off a squier 60s vibe mustang bass.
A lot of folks have mentioned the bridge - they also use it on the Fender JMJ Mustang bass...no one has mentioned the pickups yet! That's interesting. I really like them, no matter where they came from!

I had one of the original Fender Rascals. 3 lipstick pups. Quirky and fun but not really a stage grade instrument

I was thinking the same thing about the bridge pickup being the showstopper. The neck was too muddy through your rig. I did not notice this in other reviews.

I use a Raapala digital scale used for weighing fish. It's accurate and has a max weight limit of 25 pounds. I've never seen a 25 pound guitar.

The bridge is typical for a vintage Mustang Bass,, also 30 inch scale.
Any chance we could get a picture with the pickguard off? I am thinking that a set of sims quad pickups would be a perfect complement for this. Just need to see how the extra switches could be fitted. Thanks in advance. Great video.
When I get new strings for it I’ll snag a shot of under the pickguard!
I changed the strings today - it's not a swimming pool route and I didn't get a picture while I had it off but it's got a fair amount of room underneath there! Basically where the 3 way switch and the knobs are is wide open in the open space but where the pickups are it's notched specifically for dual pickups.
Mustang bridge?
Nice looking bass! Is it smaller in size and length than a full scale jazz or p - body, headstock, etc. - or did Squier just move the bridge to make it a short scale? It looks to me like just a bridge placement.
I didn't realize it (though I sort of felt it) until I put it on a stand next to my Jazz bass and my P-bass but the body and neck are the same length as both a P and a J, they only moved the bridge just like you said, to add that shorter scale! It's why it didn't feel awkward to me (I'm a big guy, me and smaller instruments don't always get along)
I bought a pink one from Fender direct. I'd love to find someone in my area to pinstripe it!
I like it better than my MIM Fender Rascal Bass with 3 single coil lipstick pickups.

I was expecting a Fender Mudbucker, surprised by their definition.
It’s definitely got a lot more clarity and pinch than I expected!
If you find the neck too sticky, try polishing it with carnauba wax, works extremely well without destroying the finish :)

Flats on short scales are great. That'll be a great move.
That's definitely the direction I think I'm going to go! Just gotta decide if I'm going to put La Bella Deep Talk' Flats (they're like 20% as expensive as this whole bass was!) or maybe just plain ole D'Addario Chromes!
@@40WattPodcast I'd start with the Chromes. They're a touch brighter, and that might be nice with the sorry scale and HBs.
Sound wise would you consider this similar to the Sterling HH??
Great question! I've never played the Sterling HH but I had a Stingray 5 single H and I don't feel like they sounded much alike at all - but I can't say for sure.
That's a 60's style mustang bridge. The Vintera 60's Mustang has the same bridge.
Just picked one up in Shell Pink . . . . has anyone found a suitable gig bag for this bass?
My Fender Rascal fits in a full scale bass gig bag.

Honestly if I'd seen the shell pink, I'd have had a very tough decision in front of me but ultimately I'm extremely happy with the green! Enjoy the bass!

Nice review🎸👍🏾🥤🤳1st thing I did was look at CuNiFe replacement pickups😁FENDER hasn't put out any yet but I imagine it will be a smart business move if they do. I've seen a few used 70s Vintage Bass WRHBs on various sellers over $200 per pickup✌🏼😎🤳

It really does - some days I miss my massive SVT+810 rig but I am glad I never have to carry that thing around again and the plugins sound great and playing at home is the majority of my bass playing these days!
Is the Bridge from a Mustang Bass?
I thought it was and looked one up and it had more like a standard bass bridge - but then I saw there's another Mustang bass model that *does* have this bridge so that's exactly what it is! Thanks for the heads up!
The bridge is from a Squier 60s vibe mustang bass.

looks great but its seems pretty big for a short scale.
It’s a full sized bass body and neck - the bridge is moved forward four inches in comparison to a jazz or p-bass
They should of added lipstick pickups like the old model. But I get it's a blend of 2 models
I really liked that it had the humbuckers, but I do wish it had both options available!
FINALLY a squier short scale other than the kid's Bronco and the fugly Mustang. Mike Kerr seems to be giving some tips to them. INSTANT BUY.
I kind of like the Mustang, but as a bigger guy, the smaller body on it makes me feel HUGE and I don’t like it. I like that this is a full sized bass with the bridge moved to give me shorter scale length. They really, really knocked it out if the park with this one. I almost want to buy a second one for when thees inevitably get discontinued!

I feel like the bridge is pushed a little too far forward on the body. Maybe if I played one I would feel different. Anyway, still cool. Great video.
I think it just looks that way because the bridge extends so far forward from the saddles. It feels very natural in its placement for me

For a budget bass it’s cool. That bass lacks a lot in overall pervasive value. The pickups are not good in every situation of music. The are not interchangeable with almost any other alternatives. Cheaper wood selection, short scale. This bass “looks cool.” Somebody said let’s just throw out some concept here that looks cool and throw a price tag on it. It’s cool if you merely want a cheap bass. It’s horrible if you are looking for longevity and upgradable adaptability.
Not impressed doesn’t sound good at all extremely disappointed 😢
I'm sorry to hear that! Make sure to check out some other demos of it in case they use it in ways I haven't/wouldn't/are better at the audio engineering side of demo videos! I have also found out that Novak makes a wide range bass humbucker that can be used as an upgrade!
