Welcome! Who is Diana Ankudinova?
Diana was born in May 2003 in the Far East of Russia. (Height: 1,70 m/ 5,7” ) She didn't have a happy start in life. The woman who gave birth to her had many pregnancies, only Diana survived ... and she abused the child and tried to drown it. One day this 3 year old child was found at a bus stop with a broken collarbone and taken to an orphanage.
There she finally found love ... by Irina Ponik, a massage therapist who treated the children from the children's home. Diana came to a poor but loving family when she was 5 years old.
Diana spoke badly, cried a lot and was still very scared, but she could all sing songs from cartoons. A doctor recommended singing lessons. And so, the singing teacher Elena Kazantseva discovered Diana's talent. And all started …
Diana has something primal, mystical, but also sensitive and sensual in her voice and she lives her songs. Diana is a dramatic contralto, the rarest and lowest female voice type (her range C3-D6). Diana's voice also sometimes has a polyphonic undertone. You hear: Her voice sounds an octave below the singing voice. (But not everyone can hear that.) Diana also has a perfect pitch and her sense of rhythm was exceptional even as a little girl.
Diana impressed with her talent in over 50 national and international competitions.
In 2018 and 2019 Diana entered a unique competition and won twice. This project is unique in the world, an international TV- competition: 'You are Super', especially for adopted and orphaned children.
The winner of the season will be determined by a 6-day public vote and the final took place in the Kremlin Palace and her videos were uploaded to CZcams and soon she had millions of fans.
The project producers help the finalists start their studies and encourage their creativity. Diana won a scholarship.
Igor Krutoy, here as a juror, gave her a small apartment (37m²/398,26 ft²) in Moscow. There, in the small flat she lives with her mother and grandmother and was able to begin her vocal training with the best teachers.
2020 Diana graduated from high school with honors as an external student a year earlier than it is 'normal'. That alone shows how smart and hardworking she is.
She applied to music colleges and was rejected (examiners suspected she had a voice defect). But she is totally normal and healthy. Now she is a student at the university, at the legendary Russian State Institute for Theater and Variety Arts. (Juilliard similar to GITIS) She is already composing songs and we will definitely hear her own work soon. ❤ Greetings from Germany
Early life
Diana Ankudinova was born on May 31, 2003 in the far eastern Primorsky Territory of Russia in an area north of the city of Vladivostok. Diana's biological mother physically abused her daughter.[3]
At the age of 3, Diana was left at a bus stop in the winter with a broken collarbone.[3] Diana's biological aunt rescued Diana from the street, but was unable to care for the traumatized child. Diana's aunt made a statement about the abuse of Diana to the local prosecutor, and it was agreed that the young Diana should be turned over to the care of an orphanage in Primorsky Territory which provided for the care of abandoned young children in the general area.
Children from the orphanage were periodically sent to a sanatorium in Arsenyev to help them regain and maintain their physical and mental health. A massage therapist, Irina Anatolyevna Ponik, who worked at the sanatorium developed a special affection for Diana. The daughter of Irina Ponik, who sometimes visited her mother at work, was the one who first began to insist that her mother adopt Diana.[3]
In 2008, Irina Ponik filed the necessary paperwork to assume formal legal guardianship of Diana Ankudinova with the territorial department of guardianship and trusteeship.[4] The new family lived in Arsenyev.[4] In 2012, the family moved far away to the city of Tolyatti in the Samara Oblast of southwestern Russia. The move to Tolyatti was mostly due to Diana's fears that her biological mother might try to find and abuse Diana or even attempt to regain custody of Diana. These fears were so intense that they had been significantly affecting young Diana's mental health.[3][5]

You might be better served heading back to some of the performances that made her internet famous a few years ago, on the show “ты супер”, which translates to “You Are Super” - “Derniere Danse”, “Rechenka”, “Wicked Game”, and “Human” are all iconic.

She's a true contralto, and could probably be classified as a 'dramatic contralto' (which requires that her voice must be clearly audible over the music at a live opera, without the aid of a microphone or amplifier.)

At the age of four-and-a-half years, Diana's speech was extremely poor, with stuttering and other problems. Speech pathologists recommended that she be given singing lessons to improve her general speech and vocal skills.[6] She quickly discovered that she loved singing.
The head of the brass band of the city of Arsenyev, Alexander Varnamov, was the first to say that Diana had an extraordinary and very beautiful voice, and also a perfect ear for music. He predicted a great future for Diana as a singer.[7][8]
Diana's instructors also noticed her unique vocal abilities in her singing. Alexander Varnamov made an agreement with Elena Kazantseva, head the vocal pop ensemble Zhemchuzhinki (Pearls), so that she would accept Diana into the collective.[9] She also sang in a duet "Malinki" under the direction of Elena Kazantseva.
Diana entered the Elegance vocal and choreographic school under the guidance of Anna Pekhtereva in the city of Arsenyev.[10]
Diana began entering many vocal contests while still very young. She also began singing in public events at every opportunity that was presented to her.
After the move to Tolyatti, Diana continued singing in public at every opportunity and continued to enter many vocal competitions. She began studying vocals at the Melody circle of the Tolyatti House of Culture where she took vocal lessons from Svetlana Vovk.[5]
Diana played one of the main roles in the musical Teremok with the Russian orchestra of the Tolyatti Philharmonic in November 2014.[11]
In the theater and music studio at DKIT under the direction of Dmitry Marfin, she played in the musical Visiting the Fairy Tale, and also played the role of Becky Thatcher in the Jazz musical Tom Sawyer and His Friends,[12][13] played the role of Muryonka the cat in the opera "Silver Hoof" in Tolyatti Philharmonic, in the musical Vovka in the Jazz Kingdom, in the musical New Adventures of Electronics.[14]

2013 - She won the Grand Prix of the regional competition for children and youth creativity Kind Heart at the festival Bereginya in the nomination "soloists - pop vocal";
2014 - She became the Silver Voice of the All-Russian competition-festival Talents of the land of Volga;
January 2017 - She received the diploma of the 1st degree Laureate, semi-finalist of the International Competition for Children and Youth Creativity "Art Premium" with the support of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, and the Government of Moscow of Moscow city.
April 2017 - She won the gold medal of the XVI All-Russian Youth Delphic Games in the category "Variety Singing" - finishing first among 39 participants
After You Are Super!
Before and after winning the 2018 season of You Are Super!, her biological mother and some other biological relatives wrote to Diana on social networks. Diana had no desire to communicate with any of them, though, since she already had a loving adoptive family who had happily raised her.[19][20]
Diana Ankudinova took part in the 2018 New Wave Junior international contest for young pop music performers in Artek, where she won the Audience Award.[21][22]
She has done a number of solo concerts in Russia, as well as performances in a few nearby countries such as Estonia, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.
On October 18, 2019 Brad Cooney (US) posted a podcast interview with Diana Ankudinova.[23] Diana gave another interview with a vocal сoach Emre Yücelen from Turkey, which was posted to CZcams on August 24, 2019.[24]
On January 23, 2020 the presentation of the first single by Diana Ankudinova took place in Moscow in the bard club "Capercaillie's Nest". It included songs "As Your voice", "In your city", "How are you there" and "On the waves of fate".[25][26]
On September 10, 2020, the official video for "Into the Sky" was released.[27]
In September 2020, she was accepted as a student at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS).[28][29][30]
On October 4, 2020 Diana acted as a guest star of the 4th season of the You Are Super! program with the song "Into the Sky".[31]
On October 12, 2020 Diana's voice teacher Olga Donskaya died in Moscow.[32] In late 2020, Diana's foster father died.[33]
In December, 2020, she decided to attempt to finance her first full CD music album though crowdfunding using the Russian crowdfunding web site Boomstarter.[34] When the crowdfunding period expired in early 2021, Diana Ankudinova had reached 236% of her goal.[35] The released album is entitled "D.A." after the initials of Diana Ankudinova. The album was released in early December, 2021. It contains nine original songs.[36]

Here are three reasons why Diana doesn't sound human.
First, she is a contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich.
Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the vocal Eighth Wonder of the World.
Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. (more below)
When you add all that up you basically get a person who creates her own auto-tune. She doesn't need electronic auto-tune. She IS her own auto-tune.
And the effect when you hear her is totally mind-blowing. It's like she's singing right through you, like a sword straight into your soul. Literally NOBODY else on the planet has a voice like hers. She's not one in a million, she's one in seven billion.

Welcome to the extraordinary sound of Diana Ankudinova! To those that don’t know, Diana Ankudinova was only 18 years old when this performance took place during the 2021 season of a Russian vocal competition called the "ShowMaskGoOn". This cover of the Elvis Presley classic "Can't Help Falling In Love" now belongs to Diana and demonstrates Diana Ankudinova’s true contralto sound. If you didn’t know, a contralto is the lowest female voice type and is very rare.
First, to answer a very common question about Diana's vocal range. In 2017, her range was measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5. As of September 2021, about 4 years later, her functional range was measured from a low of C3 to a high of B♭5. But, it's not just how low she can go, it's the exceptional quality of her tone in her lower range. It's also her timbre, the roundness, fullness, and the depth of her voice, along with her ability to create and access an enormous amount of resonance that further define Diana as a "dramatic contralto" voice type, which is the rarest of the rare contralto voice types.
Earlier in Diana Ankudinovas's career, she was interviewed and was asked a question about her deeper voice. Diana answered by saying she was not happy with just her lower range and was working with her voice teacher to increase her ability to reach a higher range. With the "Can't Help Falling In Love" Elvis cover, most people would agree she is succeeding.
A lot of Diana’s ability has been attributed to her just being born with vocal anatomy that is unique. Her vocal folds appear to be longer and thicker than most female singers, and her larynx and vocal track are bigger and longer which
gives her the ability to produce such deep, rich sounds. To really appreciate Diana Ankudinova's vocal progression you should really listen to "Rechen'ka", which is a Russian folk song sung in Russian when Diana was only 14 years old during a vocal competition called "You Are Super!" during their 2018 Season. Next listen to a cover of Chris Isaak's, "Wicked Game" during the 2019 Season of "You Are Super!".
Diana is also a true polyphonic singer which in itself is also an extraordinarily rare talent. What is a polyphonic singer? A polyphonic singer is defined as a singer who has mastered a vocal technique that creates two different tones at the same time which adds to the harmonic overtones and undertones that make it sound like two different voices at the same time. To have s singer as young as Diana master this technique is not only impressive, it is extremely extraordinary.
This polyphonic sound is why some people mistakenly believe Diana Ankudinova is using auto-tune, a voice synthesizer, a vocoder or pitch correction software, or some other artificial form of electronic voice manipulation to alter or adjust her sound. Others think another person is singing off stage in the background, or she is lip-syncing over a previously recorded vocal track. There is no artificial manipulating of any kind going on at all. This is a very prestigious vocal competition and Diana Ankudinova is required to use the equipment provided for her to use as all the other competitors are required to do. There was no opportunity for her to bring in, let alone set up, calibrate and test any extra electronic vocal manipulating equipment. What you are hearing is all Diana Ankudinova.
Female singers usually don't reach full vocal maturity until they are somewhere around 24 to 28 years old; some reach it sooner, others, later. I am looking forward to what Diana will sound like when she does reach her full vocal maturity. When she does she will have had many more years of voice training with her voice teacher in addition to more years honing her on-stage performance skills. When that day happens, there will be no doubt that Diana Ankudinova will be a wonder to behold on stage and a vocal force to be reckoned with.
Diana started taking part in the “ ShowMaskGoOn on” vocal competition in September of 2021. The judges were a panel of nine professional singers that compete against each other and also award judging points to each other. The judge on the top row that stands up first is the famous Russian opera singer from Baku, Azerbaijan Yusif Eyvazov. He is well known in Russia and the blond woman in the red dress stands and looks shocked at the end of Diana's performance and puts both hands on the top of her head in what looks like total disbelief also knowing she has to compete against Diana Ankudinova. Finally, Diana won this competition.

the performer. At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far
northern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where
she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she
was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage
therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the
first to recognize something special in this little girl, and
eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons
because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak
without impediment. Only two years later she started singing in
local theater, and in street plays and performances. And soon
after was entered in a Russian TV music competition for
disadvantaged children. By the age of 10 she was winning local
competitions, singing on live TV shows, and her songs started
showing up on CZcams. Two months ago, at the age of 18, her
first performance during a new Russian television competition
with several other renowned performers, has gone viral and has
garnered hundreds of CZcams 'reaction' videos, and millions of
viewers. Her first song at the competition, an entirely new take
on Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling in Love with You' has
been called mesmerizing, transcendental and other-worldly...it
highlights her uniquely deep voice, and effortless range from
low to high, along with her trademark dramatic and passionate
interpretation. Diana Ankudinova sings mostly in Russian,
English and French. She has also sung in other languages
including Spanish, German and Arabic. A viewer: 'At the age of 5
she couldn't speak her own language, and now she is this angelic
singer that the world will soon discover! How can one watch her

Ypu should hear her do wicked games.... she is the most unique singer I've ever heard. Her vocals are so difficult to do.... I mean the science behind these techniques of chest voice, head voice, diaphragm air....she is really amazing, wicked talented.

She was born near the city Vladivostok which is in Russia. She did not have an easy childhood and actually had a stutter and at the urging of speech pathologists started taking singing lessons to improve her speech. What you are seeing is a clip from a Russian Talent Show, similar to our version of The Voice. Her performance left the judges speechless.
She is truly amazing. But you need to also check out Dimash Stranger. They both are super fantastic.
