How to Roast a Chicken [Step by Step Guide]

  • An easy roast chicken recipe for beginner cooks or for people who haven’t roasted a chicken before. Step by step instructions!
    Roast Chicken
    Ingredients:
    1 4lbs whole chicken
    2 tsp salt
    1/2 tsp black pepper
    2 Tbs butter, melted.
    Directions:
    1. Preheat oven to 425* degrees.
    2. Remove the organ meats and neck from the chicken and pat dry with paper towels.
    3. Season with salt and pepper and melted butter, coat the bird evenly.
    4. Place a sheet of foil into your Dutch oven for easy clean up.
    5. Place the chicken breast side up in the Dutch oven.
    6. Cook in the oven for 90 minutes our until the breast meat reaches an internal temperature of 165*F.
    7. Let the chicken rest for 20-30 minutes before cutting into it.
    Chicken Stock
    Ingredients:
    Chicken skin and bones, picked of excess meat
    1.5 gallons of cold water
    Onion skins, celery and carrots (optional)
    Directions:
    1. Place leftover chicken in a large stock pot.
    2. Add onion skins, celery or carrots if desired.
    3. Add water and cover.
    4. Over medium high heat bring to a boil and then reduce the heat to a simmer.
    5. Let simmer for 4 hours, uncovered.
    6. Strain the excess bits of chicken and vegetables from the stock and store in mason jars.
    Enjoy!

    Hi Shannon 👋, thanks for the tutorial. Probably better to bake our chicken ahead and use it later for our no cook meal prep too. At least we know how it's prepared 👍
