  • Easy Way To install a HandHeld shower head to your existing shower with just a few simple steps. I'll show you how you can add a shower head and if you need to drill into tile, don't worry, I'll show you that too.
We are installing a handheld shower head to out existing shower mainly to be able to rinse out the shower while cleaning. But for whatever reason you have, it's always a nice option to have in your shower.
While I know I'll be getting some flack about using plumbers taper when most of these fitting now have rubber bushings inside to create the water tight seal....it's not going to hurt if you want to still use plumbers tape. I did and it's just an added step and makes sure I don't have to crank down too hard on these connections to get the water tight seal. All my connections are dry and secure. I feel like you don't need to put so much pressure on the fitting with the plumbers tape added which is a plus since most fixtures use some type of plastic pieces for their connections.

I thought you needed a plumber to add a valve behind the tile I didn’t realize you could do it directly from the shower head.

Nope, there’s a couple ways to accomplish this. And you also don’t need a plumber to do it if you want to get in the wall. Shower plumbing can be a diy project. Lots of information out there showing you how easy it can be.

Question for you- I have a new shower head/wand- less than year old.paints chipping on the hose to the wand- (China made- didn’t know when bought). When I replace the wand- the threaded attachment will fit/ what about the housing that holds the wand? Are those somewhat universal? What’s the likelihood of getting a standard one and it’ll fit in my existing housing?

Hmm. Thats a good question. I know they are usually pretty close to the same style/sizes. I guess if you look at what you’re buying and visually compare it to what you have currently you may be able to see just from that if it’s very different or not. But without having it in hand it would be hard to tell.

You can drill tile with a masonry or diamond tip bit, but I showed that if you pick a grout line you can make it easier on yourself. Sometimes placement of a hole in existing work will make things much easier and help avoid unwanted damage.

I'd call it drilling tile 🤷🏻‍♀️
