    I finally got my 78 20 hp Evinrude dialed in the throttle linkage between the carb and mag plate was set at the wrong length. It was over revving a 1/4 inch adjustment solved that big time. Then I had to file off some metal on the shifter catch so it would completely shift into forward without jumping. It runs really strong love those old engines all mechanical no plastic with few very few wires. Can't wait for a decent day to go fishing now that the ice is pretty much gone.

    I have a 25hp Johnson 1983 and after the impeller change it’s barely pumping water and running extremely hot think it’s the thermostat?

    • @THISOLDOUTBOARD1
      @THISOLDOUTBOARD1  Před 4 lety

      Hey. You said "after'' the impeller change. Does that mean it was pumping before you changed it. If thats the case the water tube may not be aligned and its getting no water. If thats not the case then yes could be the thermostat. Or the upper water tube grommet is bad. Or if its been sitting for awhile it could be full of Mud- Dobbers. You could try and hook a high pressure hose up to the water tube and flush it out. Or just pull the thermostat cover off and go from there. But be careful, those cover bolts break easy if there is bad corrosion.

    • @THISOLDOUTBOARD1
      @THISOLDOUTBOARD1  Před 2 lety

      Hey. Thanks for tuning in. It came on the motor. Don't know what brand it was. Best thing to do is go to marineengine.com, lookup your year/model, check the parts schematic for part numbers, you may need the bracket too, I don't know. Then search the part numbers on ebay. Search the numbers twice. Once with the "0" at the beginning of the number and again without the "0'. Some sellers don't use the "0" and some do. Some use both. You can get generac starters new for $40-50 on ebay. And/or if you need the bracket you might find a deal for both. Thanks again & Stay tuned !

    hello awesome video as always I was wondering if you could take the time to make a video explaining how to lynk and sync these motor I have a 1983 evinrude 35hp that I have replaced nearly every mechanical and electric part including a new reman carb so my problem is when I start it up it sounds like its revving at 4500 rpm and when I turn my little idle speed screw I don't get much reaction

    • @THISOLDOUTBOARD1
      @THISOLDOUTBOARD1  Před 5 lety

      Hey. I'll see what I can do. Sounds like your roller (CAM FOLLOWER) on the throttle cam is set wrong. Set your slow speed screw 1.5 turns out from seated, then, You want the carb butterfly to start opening just as the roller hits the two marks on the throttle cam. loosen the screw/linkage on the carb and set the roller so its touching the cam just before the first mark and tighten the screw, now turn the throttle back and forth, you'll see the carb just starting to open. Reset it to the marks as close as yo can. that should get you started and running at a normal rpm. Now turn off the motor and put it in forward gear and turn it to full throttle . Now look inside at the carb at the butterfly, it should be perfectly horizontal if not adjust the throttle rod screw. Hope that helps. let me know how it goes. thx. Stay tuned !

    • @THISOLDOUTBOARD1

    • @THISOLDOUTBOARD1
      @THISOLDOUTBOARD1  Před 5 lety

      Hey I would pull the carburetor off for sure and check it out clean it up might be part of the problem normally the only thing that needs replaced is the needle And as far as the fuel pump goes if it ain't broke don't fix it you could doing upgrade and just buy a kit and replace the diaphragms. im sure they work, but with such a cheap part considering how important it is id go atleast sierra if not omc. im surprised, however, that you found an o ring like the one needed as it has a little arm sticking out of it to prevent it turning in the carb body, which would make it leak air if it didn't.

    • @THISOLDOUTBOARD1
      @THISOLDOUTBOARD1  Před 3 lety

      Hey. Thanks for watching and commenting. Hate when that happens. Hopefully it's something simple, one of the most overlooked things is the slow speed circuit in the carb not clean and it won't idle. Or even an air leak in the fuel system. Coil could be breaking down after it warms up. What may seem like a fuel issue could be an ignition problem and vice versa. Go through both fuel and ignition systems. If it's got good compression it should run. What is it doing?

    • @samcappelli146
