  • Running the open class downwind run from Sneaky Pete's to DCYC. Made it in 1hr 2 minutes 43 seconds with no spin. Crazy wind and trying to outrun a storm.

    Took me a minute to recognize Lake Lewisville. I was on a J/24 there yesterday morning. I wanna sail with you guys, looks like a lot of fun.

    one tip, you hoisted the rig with NO backstay tension, the wire ropes and rope tackle are just swaying in the wind!, this should be tight!, as it supports the mast fore/aft as no backstay = no forestay tension!, as one adjusts the other!, at least on keel boats, especially in high winds, just asking for your mast to be blown over!

      Good eye, and I have never noticed that on this video. You are 100% right, and that being said we are lucky to have not lost the rig in those winds. Thank you for the comment and stay safe.

      Thank you and you are right. That was the first of many missing hats

  • @sailhorsednvliegendebraban8658

    Nice run! Do you use extra luff tension after raising the jib, especially in these heavier winds?

  • @mastrake
    @mastrake Před rokem +1

    Do you take your rig down after sailing? Or just creating clearance for the a hoist?

    The jib sheeting is missing outboard turning blocksm instead of using the genoa cars.

      Haha. We thought about it but did not want to lose a brand new spin to those winds. Stay safe

    38 kts a wind? No freekin way! If it was blowing that hahd, that boat would be on her beam ends, even without the blade. No, that was more like 20-22 mph. And why did the crew need to raise the jib from the mast? The jib halyard should run on deck back to the cockpit and a halyard brake. Poorly set up J 24, these guys can’t possibly race this boat.

      lol just seeing this sorry, but appreciate the feedback, we often times see wind lines of 50 mph and have lost several boats. either way it was great sailing and thanks for commenting
