After watching paint gun set up videos for 3 hours, you appear to be the only guy on YT that can actually explain how a gun works and why. As an engineer I’m all hung up on facts and details. This video was VERY informative. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!
+Chris Niederkrom thanks chris! I alway need to know the why of things:-) I'm glad you got something out of it.
👍
Same here! Glad I found this video. Thank you
Agreed. This is the best video of its kind on CZcams.
Yea! He finally explains the details I needed also
I have watched, no joke, probably 10+ hours of videos on guys showing how to paint with HVLP and this was THE most useful video about gun setup by far. I think the biggest thing is that you showed what happens when the settings are too far out, which is extremely easy to do when you're new. Most guys just show "always set the gun up like this" which is hardly useful for DIYers who don't have access to a paint booth or live in more extreme climates. Thank you!!!
Most helpful HVLP sprayer video I’ve seen. Very helpful w/ just the right amount of detail. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
Instructional video's don't get any better than this one. Covered all the important areas without any wasting any time and the demonstrations were top-notch.
I wish everyone could teach as well as you as its so frustrating and takes so long to find useful and well constructed tutorials.
I want to add my compliments for a very well done video, to all the rest you have received so far. I won't repeat all the reasons everyone has found your video helpful, but they all apply. When I find a truly useful video on here ( and not all of them are certainly ), I think it is good to tell the person. Thank you for taking the time to make this !
Thank you for making this explanatory video. In 8 minutes you have given me everything I need to know to feel confident about using my new HPLV set up. Possible the best 8 minutes I have ever spent on CZcams.
I've looked at literally hundreds of videos on spraying, this is by far the most informative, thankyou! And what a great guy
Thank you from the UK. I am a first time user of Spray guns and as a lady DIYer, I can honestly say that this was the most useful video online. Feeling way more confident about doing my various paint projects now.
Thank you
Can i ask what gun and compressor you purchased?
Finally CZcams gives me a good recommendation.
Best video about spray guns on this platform, thank you
Tom, that's an educational home run + what Tom G said!
Thanks again.
Finally, a real “how to video “ with a real explanation and not a “watch me paint and increase my view time”. 💪🏼💪🏼
This was PERFECT for what I needed! Showing the extremes really helps newbies like me understand what's going on. Thank you so much for this video!
This might be the best HVLP tutorial in existence. Great work!
Finally a video that makes sense of the instructions included with the gun. Thanks for the demo and explanations of each component.

This is the video I've been looking for. All the other spraying tutorials on CZcams left me with unanswered questions and wasted time. You're the best, thanks!
Love this video. My work recently installed a paint booth and I’ll be running this type of gun. Great tips and how it all ties together.
The first spray gun video I've seen that explained and demonstrated the effects of input pressure. Well done!
Yours is the BEST explanatory video on the concepts of how spray painting works. The BEST explanation.
Very happy with the way this guy explains things. Building up my confidence to finally start working with my spray gun. Thank you.
Probably the best video on how to use an HVLP spray gun. I was attempting to spray lacquer for my cabinets and was getting frustrating. This video might be old but still very helpful.
IDK if you'll ever read this comment, but THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video. 🙏🏻 I'm new to painting with a gun like this, and was having trouble with dry paint ending up all textured and pebble-y. I watched dozens of YT vids, but YOUR video SAVED my project! A 1955 GMC pickup truck I am restomodding. Especially the part beginning at 2:11. Thank you for explaining this so amazingly well! I applied an AMAZINGLY smooth, glossy coat of single-stage black urethane on my pickup's roof last night. And honestly, that's been the toughest part to paint with primer to date. This morning, it looks like black glass. Just amazing! Thank you again so very much! 💙💙💙
You are totally welcome! I’m glad it helped!
Finally a video that punches straight to the point! All the facts laid out and the "why" to each usage. Appreciate such concise video, thanks for this!
As someone who is just starting out with a spray gun, this was FANTASTIC..THANK YOU!
same! I'm trying to learn, this has been very helpful (as opposed to maaaany other videos on youtube!)
I've been studying spray painting and discovered a fantastic resource at Magic Painter Method (check it out on google)
Me too.
Good job describing how the guns work and also demonstrating the set up. You are a good teacher.
Omg thank you for this video. I work at HF and I been wanting to buy this little gun for a project I’m working on. This video is exactly what I’ve been looking for !
I really appreciate this, I have been just fine tuning with use, but having the dials explained and shown is very helpful.
Thank you for very clear and to the point explanations. This is the best video I've seen on spraying basics concepts so far.
I do woodworking and have been debating on one of these since I have a shelving project coming up. This is very helpful on how to clean/use the gun.
Very good instructional for these hvlp setups, thank you for sharing. Answered all the questions I had
Thanks for sharing! I’m a DIYer, just got me one of this little ones, I feel more comfortable using it, taking it apart and cleaning it!!
Hi Tom, Your video came just in time for me. Getting ready to paint my antique tractor and have never used a spray gun.
Thanks, John
Love the diagramming on the brown paper!
Pure Gold... Best HVLP beginner set-up guide on CZcams. Thank you...
super good video! Thanks for taking the time to explain so well what is going on...
Thank you for the time and putting this out here - VERY helpful
I’ve watched at least 20 hvlp CZcams setup videos… in my humble opinion, this is the best! Well done!
Fantastic... thanks for the video.. great explanation of what each adjustment is actually doing..
I watched like eight videos on it how to use one of these paint guns and I cannot lie yours is the best of all of them! Thank you for not wasting so much time!

Very detailed and easy to understand, nice work on this tutorial video!
Excellent, excellent video. Covered all the basics without wasting any time.
This is the best video on CZcams about how this works. You are an awesome instructor! Thank you!
This was the best best video out of many I have watched. I'll be spraying guitars and bowls with lacquer and this was really useful.
I build custom guitars and got a spray gun at StewMac for my coatings. I believe the mini gun is the way to go.
@@jimmymeetsworld464 Thanks for your reply. I have already bought the Earlex 5500 and put a 1mm needle in it. Relatively inexpensive and works great.
I like the both extreme cases you use, to show the right adjustments. these calibrates the understanding.
Nice tutorial !!! keep up man.
You're really an adorable instructor with the most informative video for spraying with a hvlp gun!! Really great! Now I can tackle my garage! Thanks!!
Awesome instruction and demo. I feel more confident in buying one now. Thanks.
Excellent starter video. Just what I needed! Thank you Tom.
Excellent. Just what I needed to get started.
Brilliant, just started using spray gun for a few small touch up jobs and parts, my dad had small devilbiss one from years back but need one now to paint full CRX panels so this is massive help, wondered what all the controls do, now i know👍 had no idea you could adjust fan width, worth getting half decent gun, time to check your other videos
the best information with real action.. thank you
Really well explained and demonstrated. I am going save this video for keeps. The man is a natural teacher. I love it !
Great information tom. I'm an industrial sprayer I spray window frames for all super markets, Mc Donald's, wickes, KFC. also ceilings, cladding on industrial units. We use hvlp turbines on window frames and while getting a brilliant finish they ain't as quick as gracos air assisted, airless pro finish
I ACTUALLY TOOK NOTES FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE. THIS VIDEO SHOULD BE A BOOK.
Thanks! I have considered outing together a little booklet :-)
@@imagineform I really cant thank you enough. good luck and please let me know when you do so.

Excellent video Tom! This is the kind of detailed explanation I newbie needs. Well done
Thank you so much! I just got my first paint gun and just didn't understand clearly how to use it. I've watched videos and it just wasn't clicking. I watched your video and it all clicked, made perfect sense! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm subscribing to your channel. I love how you break it all down. Made it so much easier to understand the tool.

Best video, you really explain the set up in detail and it is easy to understand how it works. Thank you very much!
i bought a California Air Sprayer and it came with bad instructions. Your video hit it right on the head when it comes to training! It's great for a beginner sprayer. Thanks a bunch for this video!
Great video, glad I found this one first.
I am just learning to paint and this video to me is the best breakdown of how to set up a gun that I have seen.
great presentation Sir, very helpful
Thanks for the crash course. This will help me improve on my painting. Great video.
Very well done sir. Thank You.
Simple and super easy to understand, you‘re a good teacher sir!
This is an amazing video...thank you for taking the time to explain this so well
I've watched 20 videos... this solved every issue I was having. Thank you for the detail.
Nice video. I have that exact gun. Gets the job done for what I'm painting (guitars, not cars). I've used the gun quite a bit before but just recently switched to automotive lacquers and a little more tuning and adjustment is going to help. The water based paints I have used in the past are a little more forgiving.
Very well demo-ed good one mate.
Thank you sir, this is my first to use an spray and having trouble with job, I found your video and I will follow your instruction, so I do hope that I can fix my job
Dude this is awesome im fascinated by this
Thank you for sharing tips and tricks makes it easier to know what to do to get started on some basic stuff 👍🏽I have used it a long time ago on the dash of my truck. I mixed up rustolum paint thin it then just went for it. The hardest part of the whole thing was prepping the dash so when the black paint went on it would look good. No one knew the difference when I parked it at a car show. Auto paint black for a small can was $80.00 conpaird to $8.00 can of black paint of RUSTOLUME. I wouldn't use it for the out side of it. I would buy inexpensive paint before I would use RUSTOLUME I've seen it done but you could notice it looked like a really cheap paint job on the car. You can wet sand and buff out the Orenge peel. There is a video of some guy cutting and buffing but he is a professional that wanted to show it could be done not to count in the factor of how many car's and truck's he's done in his life time.
Well done..Thanks for easy to understand spray gun techniques
Great video. Clear cut and to the point!
Thank you for this video. Best explanation of the functions.
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to make this.
Been in the coatings industry for over 20 years and have never used HVLP only airless! Have decided to purchase and learn HVLP spraying this year.
Thanks for the great videos✌🏽
Your welcome
Great video. Straight to the point and easy to understand. Thanks!
