      Here’s the newest variant of Green that I’m most happy with. I got it from AspiringSpike’s stream, where he was trying out a bunch of Green variants. I played for a few leagues and it did well enough. It relies on additional 2-mana-lands in Sunken Citadel and Castle Garenbrig to cast 7 drops ahead of curve, sometimes off of only 4 lands and no other permanents. It doesn’t have Storm the Festival, Cavalier of Thorns, or Old-Growth Troll. Instead, it goes for Up the Beanstalk, Hornet Queen, Titan of Industry, and Voracious Hydra. I will say that this deck has much less dynamism than Mono Green with Karn. Instead of being able to play many possible roles depending on the matchup (aggro, prison, control, combo), this new deck is “just” a ramp deck, and as such its subject to the typical problems that come with being a ramp deck. It seems to perform well against Rakdos, Phoenix, and Convoke. It’s extremely bad against Lotus and Amalia.

    Hi bobby, thoughts on the match vs discover carnosaur?

    • @bobbyfortanely
      @bobbyfortanely  Před 8 měsíci

      The matchup plays similarly to Lotus Field. You want either Karn, or a fast clock. With Stone Brain, try to name “Spark Double”. Then can only make 3 legendary copies of Quintorious to drain you for a mere 6 life total, or make at most three 7/6 dinos, both of which are quite beatable.

    • @luisluks5774
      @luisluks5774 Před 8 měsíci

      Why not just name Quintorious with the Stone Brain?@@bobbyfortanely

    • @bobbyfortanely
      @bobbyfortanely  Před 8 měsíci

      @@luisluks5774 congrats on your 6-1 opening at your RC.
      To answer your question, it’s because if your opponent removes your Karn with Leyline Binding or the activated ability of Trumpeting Carnosaur before you have the opportunity to Stone Brain them a second time, then naming “Spark Double” does the most to disrupt their gameplan.
      Removing Spark Double makes Quintorious into a 4 damage burn spell (since it can only discover into two copies Clever Impersonators), and it turns Trumpeting Carnosaur into at most two legendary Quintorious and 2 more Trumpeting Carnosaur. Three 7/6s is quite beatable for Mono Green. And then if Karn lives, you can Stone Brain Trumpeting Carnosaur, at which point your opponent is left with a deck at the power-level of Standard.

    Think even with fable, you need to sideboard vs. the discover decks since they're faster then you and actual otks. Fable does nice stuff for deck 'stability' but in those matchups, I think it's a pretty big downgrade since you the deck gets half to a full turn slower vs decks that can goldfish as quickly as turn 3 and 4 respectively, so I'd be interested in bringing in like, stonebrain/needle/dsphere, since Karning for them might be too slow and anytime it's not, you still have twinshot to tempo lock the game for a bit.
    That all said, subscribed. Having finally started watching, find you're content obviously highly informative, but also pleasantly entertaining. Binged watched most of the channel past 4 days.

    Does Green insta-die, 100-0 matchup? Or is it more complex than that?
    Also, does MonoG have any interest in Cavern of Souls?
