That is incredibly inaccurate. The English were growing tired of fighting the colonies, we were so far away and the war was starting to cost a lot. Eventually the English would have become involved in yet another war with France. Which did happen, at that point they would have let us become our own nation. The French helped us by sending advisers, rather than troops. Secondly, it is important to note that we repaid any sort of debt to the French three fold. World War 1, World War 2, and our involvement in Vietnam to help protect their Asian assets. And let it be known, also, that when the world was on the doorstep of doom during the cold war, France asked that all NATO forces be withdrawn from its nation. So we thank them, yes, for their nod in our direction during our struggle for independence, but we were just a pawn used to spite England.

Michael Champagne Bullshit! So there was no French troops at the siege of savannah? try over 2800!
WW1 Germany sank the Lusitania killing american civvies! They didn't enter the war to help France for a debt owing.
WW2 Pearl harbour brought the Americans into the war with the view to crush Germany first before allies would concentrate on Japan.
Where did you learn history? If America stayed apart of England you would all be better educated by the looks of it.

Blue - They were capable, but not willing, nor did they truly have their heart set in this war.
Joe - 100,000 FRESH troops to help a beleaguered allies was more than enough. and to Barry's point, 100K is quite a lot more than 2,800.
Barry - We entered WW1 because Germany tried to get Mexico to invade us, that was the last straw, we were sad about the sinking, but not sad enough to engage in the war, because we were isolationist. Siege of Savannah? I am not arguing that they sent troops, my point was that it was not enough to make a huge impact. They had 4,000 total. Nothing. As for my American education system, you can come over here and try to swim in our collegiate system. Sorry we don't have a test to pigeon-hole our students for their entire lives. Here, you can be whatever it is you want to be, on your own merit. That is the beauty of the American system. Get your head out of your ass.

Indeed, France was in a bad way in 1709, but will completely recover after the battle of Malplaquet (Pyrric tactical victory of the allies and strategic victory of France), and will win almost all the battles which will follow, in particular the battle of Denain, decisive victory of France which confirmed the French victory in this war.

The terms were very good to the British, Dutch and portugese and Britain gained gibraltar aswell as islands around the world and some territories in North America. Britain didn’t really loose much but gained lots. Yes Britain’s performance worsened towards the end (mainly because the duke of Marlborough left. from 1743 - 1815 there was 123 battles that was fought between France and Great britain, france won 63 and brittain 60, but to be faire many times France faced the brittish and their allies alone where the brittish usually fought with allies. It was rare for the brittish to face the french alone on the battlefield. This is not any patriotic shit, its facts. Brittain was a navy power, got a decent army but they could not match the manpower and armies of France.

At the start of the 18th century the population of France was around 24,000,000 and by the end of the 18th century it was about 27,000,000
Whereas the population of Britain went from around 7,000,000 to 9,000,000. Britain had 1/3 the population that France did. Yes the British often used allies at battles but half the time those allies were paid to fight for the British like mercenaries, for example the Hanoverians, hessens, Brunswickers, Dutch (sometimes), Saxons (in the war of the Austrian succession) and Russians (American war of independence) so it still counts as British victories and even battles where the British did use allies, it was usually the British leading the allied army such as when Marlborough would often lead joint armies of British,Dutch and German soldiers in victories against the french, or when the duke of Cumberland would lead allied armies against the french, or wellingtons allied armies. My point is both Britain and france won great victories.

+mace slot Common misconception: The British have never fought in a war in Europe on their own.
A quick Google search will tell you what a pack of lies that is...
The British have beaten the French, Spanish, Dutch, Ottamons, etc... without any allies.
Wars the British had won involving the French without any allies: Carnatic Wars, Fourth Anglo-Dutch War (the French were allied with the Dutch), Jacobite rising of 1715, Jacobite rising of 1745, Revolt of 1173-74, First Barons' War, Glyndwr Rising, Dummer's War, 7YW, Edwardian War, Lancastrian War (1st phase). The list is endless...
"During its history, British forces or forces with a British mandate have invaded, had some control over or fought conflicts in 171 of the world's 193 countries that are currently UN member states, or nine out of ten of all countries (or 89% of UN Nations)."
Not bad for a tiny, isolated "Northern European" island. :D
Common misconception: The British only fought against the native population in the empire. Utterly false.
The British fought against their fellow Europeans for the colonies, Australia and NZ are the exceptions. Such as Carnatic Wars, 7YW, etc...
Britain was a maritime power first and foremost, whereas France was a land power.
Britain has always been a maritime power and we take great pride in the fact that we had the most powerful navy in the world (it's still the best, just not the largest any more), even our sayings and idioms are influenced by our nautical history, the sea is in our blood.
This also means we just thrashed the French at sea as well.
The challenge is exploring the unknown, charting the seas and facing new challenges. This is probably a cultural difference, but our interests have never lay in Europe. We always had our sights set on the world instead. Yet, despite that, we still have the Channel Islands and Gibraltar, that's more than what the French have in terms of European outposts. Lol
As for the "Napoleonic Wars", the French also had allies and the allies of the British kept switching sides. For instance, at "Trafalgar" the Spanish were fighting with the French but a few years later they were our allies again. There are many more examples...
Although Napoleon did try to conquer Europe, he failed in the end in the same manner as Hitler. Lol
The Romans conquered Europe because their empire lasted for hundreds of years and its legacy is still felt today, the French didn't as they failed to maintain their little empire...
So take heed to your advice, read a book before commenting again...

In 185 battles that France had fought over the past 800 years, their armies had won 132 times, lost 43 times and drawn only 10.

The Frenchman was amazed, so he said, “I want a wall around France, so that no one can come into our precious country.” Again, with a blink of the Genie’s eye, ‘POOF’ - there was a huge wall around France. The Englishman asks, “I’m very curious. Please tell me more about this wall. The Genie explains, “Well, it’s about 150 feet high, 50 feet thick and nothing can get in or out.” The Englishman says, “Fill it up with water.”

It was actually a draw. Philip V of Spain was able to keep his title, but had to renounce his claim to the throne of France, because the allies were originally concerned that under the same guy, France and Spain would create a Bourbon superstate. However, the French and Spanish had to give up significant amounts of land.

@LeSpeedien England was the clear victor of the war. By 1706 France was exhausted financially. By the end of the war the Dutch were saddled under so much debt that they lost most of their overseas colonies. The French Fleet was destroyed when the French scuttled their own fleet in the attack on Toulon in 1707. In other words the British had no naval rivals by the end of the war and their exports doubled in the next 50 years.

UK is a great nation, and our best enemy, with great achievments as much political as industrial over its history, but frankly speaking, i think there's a kind of jealousy from the Brits towards our beautiful France, why that? Because they all know we got the most beautiful country on earth, with an incredible diversity of landscapes and resources, whereas England is a smaller island with not much resources and diversity, otherwise they wouldn't be bothering us by moving to France every year. We have the richest literature in the world, the best food and wines, Paris and Versailles are by far more prestigious and grandiose than London, we got so many castles spreading over our country, wonderful medieval villages lied on natural peaks overlooking no less beautiful valleys, our language is also far more complex, subtle than english, so to be honest, many english people should recognize what I said above. But ,as French, we also have to recognize we remain quite upset about being defeated so many times by Brits, especially in Azincourt, L'Ecluse, Poitiers, Waterloo, to mention the major battles, UK has also been more pragmatic than France on political, economical, and industrial matters, France always had a sense of grandeur, sublime, beauty, embodied by great figures like Jeanne D'Arc, Napoleon, Louis XIV, whereas UK always been less beautiful, sublime , but more pragmatic and talented as they had to counterpart their lack of resources by developing new ways of development, i would say France is like a spoiled child, gifted in so many fields so maybe is more fragile someway, whereas UK has become more stronger as it had to develop talents and energy to overcome its lacks.

Are you joking comparing your feeble ltin lingo to enhlish? And having the crazy thought french literature is vetter than english? • @guillaumebernard3580
      @guillaumebernard3580 Před 9 lety +5

Barry Rayson Barry my friend you should calm down, first it would be better for your nerves, secondly it will prevent you from typing mistakes like enhlish, or vetter.... and it is a French guy speaking. I notice you don't talk about the main subject of my comment, which is our fundamental difference, and the reason why you Brits are in a sense jealous of France. Finally, Shakespeare is of course a great playwriter but i was talking about the diversity and richness of French literature, which is recognized throughout the world. Shakespeare is like an isolated spring in the desert of your literature, whereas we have Montaigne, Moliere, Racine, Rousseau, Voltaire, Balzac, Stendhal, Proust, Camus, Sartre,Celine, Zola, Flaubert, Maupassant, to mention just a few, whose wrintings influenced so many, and try to understand subtility and complexity of French language before talking about feeble .

    • @guillaumebernard3580

Barry Rayson Why do you insult ? You are not aware of the fact that you repeat the same stupid prejudices and cliches about the French like cheese ( I like it a lot by the way, especially the stinky one) Monkey ( Why monkey? It is an insult in UK? ) Surrender( I guess you refer 1940? Well , that s true but we didn't without fighting, and please be honest, you were also protected by the fact UK is an island, otherwise i am afraid the queen would have been wiped out by the Werhmacht as well) Eating ( That very true, i love French food, you re right). Concerning literature, i won't argue with you, it is your point of view after all, but i think most of the specialists would consider both French and Russian literature as the richest ones, and it is not a coincidence if the Russian nobility was speaking French rather than Russian over 18 and 19th centuries. That s it , i am not arrogant, another cliche about the French like saying all Brits are snob, but realistic. You still didn't argue the underlined meaning of my first comment Barry, come on.... Be honest , many Brits are jealous of France , that s why you hate us, but it is true as well that we are upset about being defeated by you over history but not always..... We kicked Brits out of France at Castillon, won at Bouvines, Fontenoy, at Yorktown in US. French is a language of ideas and concepts, English a practical and simple language, dedicated to ACTION, not thinking...... Bye Barry

    • @guillaumebernard3580
      @guillaumebernard3580 Před 9 lety +9

Whatever you say gentlemen... The fact is France is more beautiful, with a culture with no comparison with the British, we got everything in such a small country, so yes i think many Brits are merely jealous of our land., But you are of course too proud to recognize it. And Barry my friend for your knowledge please learn that France is the country in Europe with the best record in terms of battles victories over its history, and you guess what my dear rosbeef? The info is from BBC. ... we lost some battles yes, but which country didn't, but finally France kicked you out of France at the end of Hundred years war, defeated you at Yorktown in US, Fontenoy, and so on. Finally to respond to your argument Nippur about the better strategic position of UK, ... Yes UK is protected from invasion by the fact it is an island but France has a far more geographical asset with both continental borders and the longest coastline amongst all the EU countries but UK developed a better Navy , that is a fact. Anyway, no more time to lose gentlemen, just do me a favor, stay on your island and God Fuck the queen! Bye my dear Barry

+Nirvana cana For the seven years war, the footage is from "Canada, a people's history". The American war of Independence is from "The Patriot". And the French Revolutionary wars is from a film only in French, "La Revolution Francaise, Les Annees Lumiere." Though I have seen the film with English subtitles.

    EN-
These are the stats from the BBC History: There have been 53 major conflicts in Europe, France was belligerent in 49 of them and the UK in 43. Among the 185 battles that France delivered over the last 800 years, his armies have won 132 of them, and have lost 43 (10 undecided) which gives the record of French military victories in Europe.
    Friendly your rivals favorite;)
