This edition includes the novel too? Wow. Peter Weir is such a versatile, masterful director. Not enough it is said about him nowadays. Which is a shame. Great review.
Thanks, Carlos! I agree, Peter Weir is a great filmmaker that doesn't get enough recognition.
Excellent movie . Great soundtrack
I've only heard the title but have never seen it. Good review and cool video Pizowell!👉😃👈
Great film.
"Which brings me to this video's sponsor" 😂😂😂
Great video Pizo! I always get excited when you upload a movie review.
I picked this edition up and was a first time watch. Did not regret the purchases.. great movie.
Thanks, Toni! Glad you like the reviews.
Great film & book! Great review!
Thanks!!!
Dude FANTASTIC release and movie. I think criterion has the rights in the US but I’d try to convince anyone to choose this instead. Great review man!
This is one of the Australian classics that’s surprisingly not an Ozploitation flick. My wife and I love it. I’m fine with my Criterion Blu-ray, but I did contemplate getting this Second Sight 4K for a moment.
What happens is that the girls enter Dreamtime, a mystical Aboriginal dimension. They turn into lizards, which is why you see them on the rocks after the disappearance.
The actor who plays the main teenaged boy, Dominic Guard, was also in an excellent Joseph Losey film called The Go-Between. Has a similar vibe, but without the mystical elements.
Dreamtime? That's an interesting theory, and it makes sense considering the dreamlike atmosphere and that shot of Miranda asleep with the lizard beside her.
I liked the film overall, have the Criterion of it. Just kind of felt like there was something left unfinished or rushed about it at the end. I'll have to give it another watch sometime though as that was a few years ago. Don't be afraid of grain though, Piz! Some grain is always good! :)
Not afraid of grain at all. I was just commenting on how polished the 4K looks.
This set is GORGEOUS. I was blown away the first time I watched this film. I bought the book too! Great review 💛
I'm surprised this film is as popular as it is. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy it - but on the surface its a soft focus period piece about a group of school girls, it's a tough sell so I'm glad people actually give it a go and all seem to enjoy it. Have you seen The Last Wave by Peter Weir? It's my favourite Aussie film, and has all the eeriness of this film in a more genre friendly film. It's borderline Lovecraftian, and has an incredible moody synth score that gives it this sense of impending doom. I highly highly recommend it if you haven't seen it. Umbrella has a 4K coming out or you can buy the much cheaper bluray of theirs from the same 4K master.
So, is the original story from Edgar Allen Poe? I saw Edgar earlier. Needless to say, im intrigued. And what happened to the girls? One theory which caught my eye was that they followed their teacher into another dimension, and they didnt come back because the "door" closed so that they couldnt return. A twilight zone episode: little girl lost" could describe that assumption. As an artist, ive even tried to visualize what it would look like. Great annunciation, sir.
My Bruce Lee 4k box set has just been posted 📫 😊
They moved to different dimension
Does it have all the stuff from the Criterion collection version?
I need to see this!!
Great review. 😻😻😻😻😻
Great review. Too bad most of your other videos reviews are horror related.
