  • Hi all fans. New weekend, new video, a spectacular gear cam footage! Today I share some aerial footage where the main subject are the landing gear! Yes friend, a special landing gear camera footage. Particularly the filming of the take-off and landing of the Boeing 747, C5 Galaxy and a Bombardier Dash 8... really exciting.
    Landing gear is the undercarriage of an aircraft or spacecraft and may be used for either takeoff or landing. For aircraft it is generally both.For aircraft, the landing gear supports the craft when it is not flying, allowing it to take off, land, and taxi without damage. Wheels are typically used but skids, skis, floats or a combination of these and other elements can be deployed depending both on the surface and on whether the craft only operates vertically (VTOL) or is able to taxi along the surface. Faster aircraft usually have retractable undercarriages, which fold away during flight to reduce air resistance or drag.

    About the plans:
    The Boeing 747 is an American wide-body commercial jet airliner and cargo aircraft, often referred to by its original nickname, Jumbo Jet. Its distinctive "hump" upper deck along the forward part of the aircraft makes it among the world's most recognizable aircraft, and it was the first wide-body produced.
    The Lockheed C-5 Galaxy is a large military transport aircraft originally designed and built by Lockheed, and now maintained and upgraded by its successor, Lockheed Martin. It provides the United States Air Force (USAF) with a heavy intercontinental-range strategic airlift capability, one that can carry outsize and oversize loads, including all air-certifiable cargo.
    The Bombardier Dash 8 or Q-Series, previously known as the de Havilland Canada Dash 8 or DHC-8, is a series of twin-engine, medium-range, turboprop airliners. Introduced by de Havilland Canada (DHC) in 1984, they are now produced by Bombardier Aerospace.

    The first 747 really waited to extend. He was only 30 sec from touchdown before dropping the undercarriage. Some pilots will do this if they think they may be going around due to traffic and some will do it to save fuel...usually only on cargo runs though.

  • @rolanddoucet9437
    @rolanddoucet9437 Před 5 lety +45

    I've often wondered why a mechanism isn't incorporated in the wheels/axles to somehow spin the wheels up to speed when landing. It would certainly extend tire life, and perhaps lessen the possibility of blow-outs. I know there's a good reason. The weight and complexity of these components might be the reason.

    • @SavageDroggo
      @SavageDroggo Před 5 lety +16

      yes it’s cuz if they are spinned up first that requires extra motors on all wheels which will certainly add to the cost, weight and size of the wheels. Also tires still won’t last as long as they have to be in order to make this mechanism worthy.

    • @SavageDroggo
      @SavageDroggo Před 5 lety +12

      Roland Doucet Also, a airplane tire can be used 500 times before it wears out, which is already really good for something that hits the ground at 170 miles per hour while carrying the weight of a gigantic plane

    • @lightt7213
      @lightt7213 Před rokem +2

      @@SavageDroggo Adding to this: Also the fact that it can be used 500 times, Landing gear tires on a specified aircraft only get changed every week or longers or so depending on when the tire is used

    • @Slash1066
      @Slash1066 Před rokem +2

      Another reason they dont is that spinning up all those stationary wheels from rest absorbs a lot of energy and slows the plane down somewhat, apparently they can leave 30lbs of rubber behind in the process but they still last for 100 landings before needing to be re-treaded, they are super thick and can be re-treaded several times

    • @ChrysReilly
      @ChrysReilly Před rokem +5
