My mom's first time trying CHINESE HOT POT (wow!) 🇨🇳

  • We travelled to China for the first time ever earlier this year. We had really good first impressions of China, including the spicy and famous Chongqing hot pot. We were fans of this Chinese food. So we thought we would bring our mom to a hot pot restaurant back in Toronto, Canada. Check out her reaction of trying hot pot for the first time!

The duck blood you had in Chongqing was probably local and coagulated very fresh, thus the very delicate and fragile texture. You are more likely to see the pre-packaged, somewhat mass-produced firm duck blood like the one you had at Happy Lamb in most restaurants.

Will be going back to Denmark soon, but I'll prolly come back for one more go before then. Some of my friends dared me to try the lamb brains, so I might actually go for it! They also do this "mask-changing performance" after 7pm. Not sure if that's the case for all of them, but definitely regarding the one over at Woodside.

Much safe way just all kinds of slice meat, shrimp, non fishy ocean fish, spinach, rice noodle (thinner, Longkou 粉丝), not glass noodle, too hard chewing, not artificial toufu. Flavor all comes to source you choose. I heard you mom say Satay (Singapore style with onion garlic sesame peanut oil turmeric or curry)? Use net scoop dipping raw meat in soup. Use separate chopsticks to pickup raw meat, bc sometimes if you don't put chopsticks in soup, kind of unsafe.

The sauce can largely determine your hotpot experience, and the sauce can be pretty much anything in addition to sesame sauce/oil. Once I ran out of sesame sauce at home and replaced it with hummus, it worked surprisingly good with spicy hotpot, and healthier in terms of fat. Recommend this if you ever want to make hotpot at home :D

The tofu skin roll was way over cooked like 1000 %. You hold on to it with your chopsticks in the hot broth for only 15-20 seconds n no more then that.
The noodles from what I saw looks under cooked. So maybe that’s why your mom don’t like it.. as for the duck blood pudding you need to throw it in right at the start of the dinner… to take in all the flavours of the meal.
And to be safe you should always have 2 chopsticks. One for raw food to cook in the pot n one to use to eat with. Specially with Evana being pregnant and all not very safe!

You can eat beef half-cooked just like having a steak. LOL.
