    The WII U definitely had 3rd party support problems. I remember reading that several developers went off the record at the time saying it was because Nintendo mandated using their handheld screen as part of their game design. It was apparently very awkward to develop for.

    • @jimmyju76
      @jimmyju76 Před 14 dny +5

      yet Ubisoft did great things with it. CoD was fun to play on the pad plus the maps and perks were all mapped to it as well, the devs were just lazy

    • @hazeydaze8396
      @hazeydaze8396 Před 14 dny +1

      Yeah , I remember reading the same excuses. But TBH, ngl, that was kinda of a lazy excuse tgey could've easily just always defaulted to using it for the HUD on any game . That's mainly what most did & it was useful but at least effort needed . The system wasn't really hard to develop, for they just made including pad more difficult than needed

    • @nagolloop935
      @nagolloop935 Před 14 dny +1

      Yeah the Wii U not having the best 3rd party support is primarily the fault of Lazy developers, the DS was more than well established at this point and developers knew darn well how they could develop for the Wii U because a lot of them developed for the DS which is the same thing except the screens are directly connected, if developers would’ve just thought of it like developing for a more powerful DS or 3DS everything would’ve been fine and I do believe that’s why the Wii U got a metric ton of support just before the end, developers either stopped being Lazy or finally got the lightbulb moment realizing how easy it could’ve been the whole time.

      SNES was way better than the NES in many ways. I got the Original NES in 1985 when it came out, I was 6yo. I picked up the SNES when it came out and I was a teen. SNES was a giant leap. Compare Original Gameboy to Gameboy color and you have very little change besides a smaller handheld and color graphics. Still not back-lit and not much different than the 1st gen.

      @tommyagain38 true, but the point being made was that there were unique innovations between consoles. NES to SNES was more power and more buttons, a major improvement, but it built on what was already there.

    After a wild day in the gaming world, Nintendo of all companies appears to be the only game company capable of appearing stable at the moment. I think this confirms that the next system is a refresh, but probably not in the way that the PS4 was a refresh of the PS3. I think there will be a lot of future-proofing features built in--upscaling, AI, etc., but also ways in which the system may be able to work with other systems, apps, services, including the current switch. They said a while back that the next system is part of the "switch" family. They said they also want to only produce one games for one system at a time. So, I think a lot of the secrecy around the system is really more around making sure they can deliver on how they can have two systems in circulation, while only producing for one (at least for awhile).

    I pretty much assumed the successor would just take the Switch concept, make it more powerful to bring it into the modern era and be backwards compatible to take advantage of the current console's massive library. It's just obvious--Nintendo would have to say otherwise for me to believe they're going for a truly revolutionary design. They hit the goldmine in terms of design with sales to back it up with the Switch--why would they throw it all away and start from scratch?
    Just look at how damn old the Switch is now and they're *still* milking it for what it's worth. The fact that they just don't seem to want to kill that thing off and seem to want to take the safe route and just run it into the ground should speak volumes on their future console plans. An iteration instead of a revolution just makes more sense no matter how you look at it.

    I think for Nintendo a console handheld hybrid makes most sense. Ever since the Gameboy there has always been a very popular niche for handheld gaming. Why compete with yourself making a home console and a handheld, when you can just do both. I'm kinda glad they're going with a true successor this go around. I'm mainly a PC gamer and the new handheld gaming pcs like the steamdeck and ally intrigue me, but I think it'll be a few more years before I feel like I can replace my pc with one of those. Or... the fact that they know that 100 millions of physical game collectors will become pissed off if their games will not work with Switch 2 and gonna vote with their wallet: not gonna buy it.
      There's gonna be huge criticism if Switch 2 cannot play Switch games!
      Many of the customers are families with children/kids. If these parents gonna buy the new console the main requirement is a game card slot that will accept Switch 1 games.
      The most likely reason why it takes so long for Switch 2 is that Nintendo wants Switch 2 to be insanely more powerful than Switch 1. Early 2025 is 8 years after Switch 1. 8 years of tech evolution, just imagine. 2-3 years of evolution will only bring a minor but nice improvement. 8 years will be like "night and day". Switch 1 gonna feel so old! How could we even play games on Switch 1, that's how we gonna feel when using Switch 2.
      And the next reason: 4K upscaling (DLSS). To upscale to 4K you need two things...
      1 - non-4K content
      2 - upscaling solution
      The non-4K content is the Switch 1 games. The upscaling solution is a newer chip from Nvidia. Most likely Nvidia. This combo means that you need a game card slot for Switch 1 games.
      I'm so excited!! :)

    I think we and Nintendo all know how successful the Nintendo Switch is, they would capitalize on that. They no longer need two systems, handheld and home console, they have a hybrid. Why would they change or reinvent the wheel when is making so much money. The next switch would be the evolution of the Switch staying a hybrid console but improved upon. Backwards compatibility is necessary to keep selling games from the switch and keeping existing users active. While people who want the next gen will have access to exclusive games for the Switch 2.

    The fact that Furakawa stated "Next model Switch, is the best way to describe it" is the most direct confimration of backwards compatiblity and a power upgrade, from his mouth that we ever had. It is the same as a 100% confirmation; as opposed to before where it was more of a 90% confirmation.

      Furukawa said "Successor to the Nintendo Switch" not "The next model Switch" if you will quote someone at least do it properly..

      @vivid8979 To be fair,; there were two translations going around, and one had said "next switch model is an accurate description" Though i do agree that the heavy emphasis on the Nintendo account carrying foward; was a confirmation of Backwards compatibility, but many still could see Grey areas in that statement.

    Love the ideas and concepts expressed in this video, though I do remain skeptical with how the current gaming landscape as a whole is. Either way I would love to see games (especially 1st party games) expand on their initial ideas. For example I would love to have a Mario game where New Donk City is the main hub and every level is an extension of it. Or a Zelda game that pushes the boundaries of where Link can go and what he can do even beyond Tears of the Kingdom. Or best yet a new F-Zero game that incorporates high fidelity and speed in the 100 + VS aspect. Either way I hope the sky’s the limit with next system, but until it’s actually said and done, I again remain skeptical.

      You don't need 4K gaming on TV unless you are sitting very close to the TV. 4k monitors are different since you are usually within a few feet from the monitor. Games running at 1080p is plenty to game on a TV.
      The main advantage of a 4K TV is it's hard to detect any dead pixels.

    Honestly a hybrid system is the smart decision for Nintendo. It is truthfully what they should do since they have built a foundation and expectation for that style at this point. I'll be surprised if they actually go along with back-tracking, because Nintendo don't normally do back-tracking anything, when it comes their new console (revision handhelds excluded). And I personally believe this because it's a consumer and developer demand in 2024. So, Nintendo don't have any choice in the matter. I just hope that they consider:
    1. A new Dock with high-end graphics that could play games 4k to rival the PSX5 and Xbox even if it's not as good.
    2. a decent handheld device upgrade with better Joy cons.
    3. VR support in Dock mode.
    But for now, my only concern is with the new June Direct because I desperately need to see some good software. And not these shovelware nonsense Nintendo has been cramming down our throat in the past 5 months or so.

    This is a shame. Nintendo needs to be a force of innovation. As RGT said each of their consecutive consoles has introduced some defining new element. That’s why they’ve always been a blue ocean strategy company. If this next console is just an upgraded Switch Nintendo will effectively alter the very essence of the company.

    The problem with reinventing the wheel is that you need a really good idea first.
    Short of that, just making a beefed up Switch is the safest bet.
    My 3 main gripes with the Switch console are:
    1) The 3rd party titles crashing the system all the f*cking time. Just figure out what they are doing wrong and teach them, already!
    2) The framerate drops. I don't care for games being in 4k or in 1080p, heck I don't mind if they go back to 16 bits. But I want smooth framerates.
    3) Over time, my Switch somehow got twisted on a microscopic level. and now, whenever I try to play in handheld mode, the Joycons on the sides keep disconnecting. Really annoying. System needs to be more robust.
    Of course, that's only looking at the hardware side of things. AAA gaming have been such a dumpster fire recently, with the current lack of good games,
    unlike with the previous generations where I always ended up buying the new console within a year after launch,
    at the rate things are going right now, I expect the Switch 2 to be worth being bought about 5 years after launch.

    Oh, and Nintendo did not go directly from 16 bit SNES to 64 bit N64, you are forgetting their 32 bit system in between there, the Virtual boy (or you might have repressed those memories). Yeah, it failed badly but it was a system and one very different from previous system. The last direct upgrade without any weird or fancy stuff was from NES to SNES.
