I wrote this song in 2020 when everyone's life had already been shut down for a few months. My academic pursuits fell off hard. My family was torn apart. I didn't know who I was. From that rubble came this aberration that still surprises me when people listen to it and call it a song. To me it sounds like ripping skin. Like a hole punch. It's fleshy and peristaltic and scary. A few months ago, I figured I'd never actually publish the synthesized version, so I went to my open mic and slammed it out on a guitar I didn't know how to play. They fuckin' ate it up. They ask for me to play it every time I come. Without them, nobody would know that this is how it's supposed to sound. If you've listened to me bang on my guitar and shout this piece into a microphone, thank you. This video is up because of you! I understand it's quite different from the LAME! you might know. You don't need to like it - it's never really been a song to "like." Just looking at it is enough. 2020 me would have been thrilled to have almost 4 minutes of your undivided attention. Tear it apart if you like. Dissect this alien organism until there's nothing left on the operating table. Be brutal. Be soft. But would you please put some passion into it?

This is really raw and emotional, it takes a Lot to put feelings like these out into the world, and you did that while making a killer song at the same time. Major respect.

This is one of the most raw emotional heartfelt and amazing songs I’ve ever heard and to hear it from my absolute favorite cover artist makes it even better. You put out so many things for us to see and were so vulnerable and we are so proud of you especially me. Because we know that was not easy to do. And I want you to know, I have loved every single one of your videos and I will continue to do so as I’m sure everybody else will. Because we are your supporters so we will always have your back don’t ever forget that.
This whole song feels so....complete. It's like, as much as it might sound rough around certain edges, every decision was taken deliberately. The lyrics are absolutely my favorite part, and the chorus is so goddamn catchy! I know the description talks about how this song isn't supposed to be liked, but I cannot help but feel very compelled to do so. It's so poetic in how direct it is. Maybe there is a lot of analysis to make in the use of certain words, metaphors and turn of phrase, but to me, there's no need. It just feels exactly like the meaning I glean from it.
The people who managed to hear the original, in the same room, are quite lucky for sure!
